Romance Suggestion: Don't make every romance character bisexual again.

If i remember correctly, all the romance options in DA2 were for either a male or female hawke.

This might sound great at first, everybody can romance every character, but not all characters should be bisexual. There should be at least one straight and one gay/lesbian romance available for each character that one cannot achieve with an opposite-gendered character. Bisexuality does not make sense for every character.

For example, in DAO Awakening, Anders was a completely different character who only voiced opinions about women (and very often!). In DA2, he is all of a sudden bisexual. (And has a new personality). This bothered me. I love having more gay/lesbian romance options in any game, but we don't need every single character to be interested in both genders. I'm glad that in the bioware universe sexuality is an open subject, but in reality not everybody fits the same sexual identity.

I much preferred how in Mass Effect 3 there were exclusively straight characters, exclusively gay/lesbian characters, and some bisexual characters. Traynor and Steve were excellent characters, and if they had been bisexual it would not have fit properly in my eyes.

Also i'm not totally opposed to a Jade Empire style polygamous romance... not everybody is monogamous. That's another issue though :P

EDIT: A great idea formed in the thread was to have romances limited by morality.
EX: If you kill every mage you meet, your mage companion would be less willing to enter a romance with you.
Think about it Bioware! :)

What's wrong with every character being bisexual? It gave everyone a chance to be with who they wanted to be with which was a big plus for those of us on console with no mods.

I enjoyed having all-bi LIs. It meant I could romance whoever I wanted while still having a character in whatever gender I wanted. It may not be realistic, but I very much enjoy the options. (I realize that this isn't a very popular opinion).

That said, I think that the Mass Effect 3 style is also fine and wouldn't mind seeing that at all!

EDIT: Typos!

I Agree it should be like the mass effect romances where there is a select few Gay/Bi/Lesbian romances our else the romance doesn't seem sincere

I agree, I would prefer they make people of varying..."orientations" as to everyone bi.

I can see where you're coming from here. Not every character should be bisexual as it does not make sense, even in such a fantastical world, that everyone who joins your party will have an interest in both genders. Having characters who are interested in one gender over the other is something that I would like to see dealt with as it makes more sense and will allow for more variety and realism in the stories than purely bisexual characters allow.

In many ways it can be a method of encouraging the replayability that people on these forums discuss so much.

Because it just doesn't make sense for every character. EX: Anders (Awakening -> DA2). Sexuality is a big piece of characterization, and making every character bisexual takes that away.

I enjoyed having romances options all "bi". it didnt break my immersion or break the character of my game or any other excuse people come up with to not have "bi love options"

Then get a PC.

.....JK.

I can see why someone may be against the position as a story point of view and that it may take someone out of the setting seeing it as unrealistic or player catering.  Gameplay-wise, all-bi cast means that people get more enjoyment out of romancing who they want.  Generally, I go with the gameplay-wise side since a game is meant to be enjoyed.

I agree. There's no point in it.

I could not say how popular or unpopular the option was, but I liked it very much. I loved being able to romance the character I wanted to romance with whichever gender I wanted. I would be sad to see this feature go away.

Nope... No one should be shoehorned into romancing a certain character because they're the only one fitting someone's orientation requirements while there's 5 other hetero options. (I'm looking at you Mass Effect)

Seriously it's not a good way to go. Unless there's an equal amount of homosexual romances to heterosexual, so then everyone can be shoehorned.

It kinda bugged me. Not because I have anything against people who are bi, or gay, but because it feels fake.

Mass Effect 3 did a better job. A gay character, a straight character, and bi character.
It still feels kinda forced though. I'd like some out-of-the-party romances.
I mean, what are the odds that you'll just happen to have one gay, lesbian, straight, and bi crew member? Either make non-party members romanceable, or make more than one gay or lesbian or bi character.

Nothing on its own, but dragon age 2 was very rushed and romances were not as good as they could have been.

Reality doesn't work like that... not everybody is bi. There are straight people, there are gay people, and there are bi people. It's important to put thought into characters and not just make them bi for the sake of it.

Anders sexuality was not defined in Awakening (no one was for that matter).I disagree that sexuality is a piece of characterization.Which slice of pie one prefers is insignificant to the characters personality as a whole.

More choices for everyone is the direction that I want Dragon Age to continue in, and that includes keeping all of the romance options open to all genders.

What's wrong with having all bi-lis, especially the way they were handled in DA2? Playing only characters from one gender, the only one openly bisexual was isabella - all the other characters only became 'bi' through the eyes of multiple characters, and that kind of metagaming really shouldn't be used to judge things like this.

When everyone is BI, it ends up removing the point of playing male or female. In DA2, you got treated exactly the same no matter what gender you are. And for characters just "turning gay" in order to suit players needs, was immensely immersion breaking. Wich race being removed, and gender having absolutely no affect on the game, the only thing left would be the class you pick. Nothing more.

Silly Herp Derp the DA2 Wannabe Blood Dragon says that having all bisexual characters for romance sub-plots give the best bang for the buck.

I liked that too, imaging me been forced to make a male character just to have Anders in da2.. really? thats just sick!
It didn't work in dao, still havent got all the romances options from that  game because it forces you to be male..
This is NOT  real life.
