Without a doubt my vote goes to Varric. He is easily my most favorite character in Dragon Age.

I'm not usually a very big fan of dwarves in fantasy games, but Dragon Age keeps proving me the fool for doubting them as exceptional story/character material.

From the moment Hawke first meets Varric in the street I was enthralled with his character: 'A dwarven storytelling younger brother with a heart of gold and a beautiful crossbow.' A character that constantly made me laugh, and yet could still be taken seriously.

Sometimes his modern cultural reference were a little chaffing, but ultimately he was so mesmerizingly awesome I had no choice but to forgive him.

I shed tears before the final end-game battle where he told my Hawke it had been an honor to know her.

I would love to see him again.

Morrigan I feel she has story left to tell in Thedas unromancable of course and if she is in a romance with a warden who went through the mirror losing him epically as he heroically sacrifices for her would be a beautiful ending to her warden.

Morrigan is obviously my first choice (for the associated plot stuff as well as the character herself) but why isn't Velanna on the list? After Shale, she's probably my third choice if only to find out what happened to her after the wall of Vigil's Keep fell on her (even if she was merely taken away by darkspawn and turned into some sort of magical brood mother).

Morrigan still holds the lead, with Varric, The Warden, and Cullen each holding at least 10% of the votes. I voted for Varric, personally, due to his status as 'Best companion in Dragon Age II'. Even if it's just a cameo appearance, or you working with him for a few missions to find Hawke, it would be nice.

What I don't get is why Morrigan is getting so many votes. We already know she is going to be in the upcoming sequal, so why spend the vote on her?

I'm not opposed to Cullen coming back due to the fact that he has a character arc that began in the first game and continued into the second game.  For me, it was really powerful to see Cullen, someone who witnessed firsthand what blood magic was capable of, refuse to bloody his hands with potentially innocent mage blood. (har har)  People love that character development, you know?

The weird thing is though if you save the Circle in the first game that is exactly what the epilogue says he does: go on a rampage and kill a bunch of mages.

You would think so, but keep in mind she is also mentioned in Dragon Age: Asunder for like at least 20 lines as well.

I want Merrill to meet my Warden again. I always feel sad whenever I play DA2 and she talks about how she lost him to the Wardens. Be a great reunion.

0.1% chance of ever happening of course, but that would be such an awesome scene to watch

EDIT: Oh and I voted Merrill. Pretty obvious by my comment above but ya. I of course want to see Varric and Leliana, but the chances of them being in DA3 are so high anyways, I might as well go for my fav companion that no one else seems to be voting for (can't understand why, she's just so cute/hilarious and has such an awesome VA)

I'm not entirely sure why Tallis gets so much hate, there are far worse characters in DA2, could it be that people are just focusing all there hate of Dragon Age 2 on her?

I know what you mean. My canon is a Dalish Warden and I feel so bad for Merrill in DA2. She seems to be hated by everyone in the clan and then I remember the scene where my Warden said goodbye to the clan and the brief part with Merill and I felt bad. My Warden was probably her only friend. If it were possible I would romance her with my Warden.

Velanna. I feel like she could add a lot to the story.
Sigrun: needs me a lady dwarf in the party for once
Fenris: his story was not complete
