How do you make ME4 a sequel without invalidating ME3?

This is something I really don't know. The EC made the ME3 endings far too disparate to incorporate into a single setting. Any suggestions?

Have it take place a couple hundred years later so the endings blur together do to the expanse of time, with a few exceptions so the payer still recognizes the end they chose.

The same way Mass Effect 3 invalidated 1 and 2? I'm kidding, almost. It will beinteresting to see. If ME4 takes place after ME3 (which I hope, because prequels tend to be bad) it will depend on which route the DLC takes I think.

Well, Halo Reach is an example of a good prequel. Not all prequels are bad.

Go far enough into the future that the divergent endings can be merged back together - control: reapers finished their work and vanished, destroy: everything repaired to pristine condition, synthesis: ... didn't work as expected and 'evolved' out of the population.

But that would require so much time to pass that the galaxy would be unrecognizable beyond the relays themselves.

This.

If ME3 were a movie, Destroy would be the one ending that provides a proper cliffhanger (yeah, I know, if your EMS is high enough) for setting up a Shep-ME4:

- Shepard breathing
- LI not putting your name on the memorial wall

You don't have this with Synthesis or Control. So IMHO, if BW wants Shep to feature in ME4, Destroy is the way to go. And I don't know why they shouldn't, because then it wouldn't have made any goddamn sense to show the breathing scene in the first place.

Choose a cannon ending, or create a game which will recognise the ending we chose. Like an import.

They will pick an ending. It's only logical.

And for the people who didn't pick Destroy you get some kind of news report that the Geth are doing well but due to a strange health condition they have secluded themselves from the rest of the galaxy, with no further mention of the Geth.. In Control the Geth joined Shepard in seclusion worshipping the "Shepard Commander"... All wearing N7 logos on their Torso or the server panelling...

And if you picked Synthesis you're told that everyone had to disconect from the hive mind because it was overloading their nervosystem and it's only used to communicate with the Reapers who have retreated to dark space out of shame of all the problems they caused.

And if you picked Destroy they don't have to don any of the above.

That's all they need to do to make it one and the same universe.

In Synthesis people learned from the reapers, in Destroy people learned from salvaging and repairing reaper tech and relays, in Control the invissible Shepard AI taught people the knowledge of the reapers and the tech they had accumulated.

It would be very doable.

You can't, Bioware has to change the ending's in order to move forward. But I don't think they understand this.

no one said it was a sequel, or that it was set even in the same galaxy

ME3 pretty much invalidated a large portion of ME1 and ME2...so I don't expect ME4 to follow any drastically different format.

As far as im aware, the EC REMOVE the scene with Shepard breathing, apparently, they thought that needed to be cut because "it didn't express what they wanted to say". Yeah sure, vanilla ending shepard """lives""" with one choice, then he dies and childbrat stays, take that fans.

Now, seriously, the scene was removed, shepard is dead, and they already said they won't make a ME4 focused on Shepard. The problem with that is, that i really can't imagnie a cool protagonist that could replace him, and i also can't think of a cool story. I mean, it can't be another "save the galaxy" thing. If ME4 must happen, i think i would prefer a story with a lot of "gray areas", not an "GoodvsEvil" plot, but a economical-political war between species.

There will be 'Mass Effect 4r', 'Mass Effect 4g', 'Mass Effect 4b'. Something like Starcraft2s..
So we must pay all of those packs for 280€! So much fun! :D

70+years later the Reapers have left for some reason or are dead, set in part of the galaxy cut off due to relay network damage

I'm not sure where you picked that up, but they didn't touch that scene. I'm 100% positive on that.
Still, if your EMS is high enough, your LI hesitates to put Sheps name on the memorial wall. After this scene you will find the abovementioned breathing scene. And then the Stargazer sequence follows.

Just have a look at the various YT videos on that, like this one:

Or maybe it won't be a sequel at all.

Maybe it'll be a prequel. With Dinosaurs.

ME 1-3 is all a fairy tale told by grandpa.
