I invalidate ME3 then I say "artistic integrity". It should work.

This.

If ME3 were a movie, Destroy would be the one ending that provides a proper cliffhanger (yeah, I know, if your EMS is high enough) for setting up a Shep-ME4:

- Shepard breathing
- LI not putting your name on the memorial wall

You don't have this with Synthesis or Control. So IMHO, if BW wants Shep to feature in ME4, Destroy is the way to go. And I don't know why they shouldn't, because then it wouldn't have made any goddamn sense to show the breathing scene in the first place.

This + Control/Synthesis are 'peace' endings were higher power forces people to live peaceful lives.
In Control this power is Shepard and his peace&love Reaper army.

And Synthesis makes everyone equal and is the ultimate peace for the galaxy. Making any sequel for this ending would invalitade it's very premise.

And Refuse is for pu**ies not for tough soldiers that Shepard clearly is.

The same way Mass Effect 3 invalidated 1 and 2? I'm kidding, almost. It will beinteresting to see. If ME4 takes place after ME3 (which I hope, because prequels tend to be bad) it will depend on which route the DLC takes I think.

Well, Halo Reach is an example of a good prequel. Not all prequels are bad.

No, just almost all of them.

There are three ways RPG series handle this.

1). You don't make any really important choices. If anything carries over it's minor.

2). The devs pick a canon outcome. Other choices are real, but don't go to the sequel.

3). Your choices are retconned so everything turned out the same.

I prefer 2.

Why not make a ME3 that doesn't invalidate the series?

This exactly.

Should DLC deliver a better ending flavor then a sequel would be perhaps good, but still a wait and see thing for me.

If the DLC does nothing then no game will interest me.

Prequels leading to the same ending would not be fun and would lead to dead people and/or ending cycles and more reapers.

Prequels:

Mass Effect: ODST interlinking short stories about Reaper invasion of Vancouver BC. Valiant Marines fighting against them.

Mass Effect: Rannoch starring Kal'Reegar (Adam Baldwin) (Starts with picture of helm on the ground with a bullet in the face mask. Doomed Quarian recon squad on Rannoch fighting Geth like Halo Reach. Reegar holds off on rushing geth while squad is being evacuated at end, because Shepard arrived in the system. Takes bullet in the helm.)

Both third person shooters. Not RPGs. 4 player online co-op campaigns. w/ horde and vs. modes.

Cynical? well just maybe. But these are based on a very successful franchise. They ripped off Star Control 2 for the plot of ME so why not.... I will beat them over the head for their artistic integrity.

Seriously... They need to do the right thing.... a successful refuse ending James Kirk style for Mass Effect 3 and make that canon so the series can move on.

Prequel. IF not, the game will be an epic fail.

Not interested in a future mass effect (and bw) game anyway, ME3 disappointed me enough.

You do not need to invalidate ME3 completly. Just invalidate synthesis and control, and we are set for a sequel in happy land. Not a big price to pay, if you ask me (which nobody ever does, but better should!)

Or have dinosaurs? That's surely valid for any ending, right?

Either they write off this frankenstein game as a what if or completely ignore 3 altogether. Acknowledging the ETHER as canon is grounds for total apathy.

With a good story idea - or with a new trilogy concept: different sequels for the different endings.

If they make a sequel, the only thing that I could think of that would not invalidate the ending choice of ME3 would be to set it in a part of the galaxy that was cut off from the rest because the relay was damaged beyond repair. Game mechanics would be similar just confined to one system instead of the whole galaxy

The only other option would be pouring tons of money into three separate games based on each different ending.

making Destroy canon will make allot off people angry the point of Mass Effect is to make choices that affect you later on in the game don't get me wrong i choose Destroy and i liked it but as i like Destroy there are many people who like the other choices. The only Ending that im 100% sure that would get scraped if they make a Sequel is the Refuse ending just Because the whole galaxy is Dead and there is nothing to work on.

An alternate timeline in which Shepard died in ME2, the Crucible was never discovered, and the Leviathans take advantage of the Reaper's weakened state (long ftl travel, vulnerable to thannix weapons) and reveal themselves to initiate a power struggle over the galaxy.

Could be an RPG, RTS, shooter, you name it, set in a re-envisioned Reaper war.

Of the four endings only one has an addition the others don’t. Bioware has stated Shepard’s story is over. This is a “Catch 22” the one that could seemingly carry the story forward is a kick in the shins for those who picked the other 3.

I would also like to request a saved seat in the “No Prequels” auditorium. I watched Starwars in the theaters the day it was released in 1977. I feel the Starwars Prequels really showed how bad the concept is.
