So, I wanted to get to play this classic and there´s an anthology with Baldur´s Gate 1+2, Icewind Dale & Planescape Torment (and one more game I think) available, but they´re all in German and it doesn´t seem the original VA is on as well.

My question to the German players who´ve played the game in German: Would it be a big mistake to buy the game in German? (What I heard of the intro wasn´t bad actually, but I don´t know how the rest of it will be, especially how important NPCs would sound etc.).

I´d rather buy this Anthology than buy only the Baldur´s Gate games in English for around the same price...

(I know there´s a revamp of this game coming, I´d still like to have the original game first. Don´t even know if this RPG style is something for me though...but I guess I´ll find out :D).

Oh, and are there any problems with playing the above games on Win7?

If you want English versions then I suggest you buy those. There was an equivalent anthology released in English a while ago (by Atari I think), or why not check out GOG, which has a D&D sale on at the moment.

No problems playing on Win7, though it's recommended you don't install to the Program Files location due to the way Win7 (and Vista) protect files located there.

Hmm, they even have a promo for all the RPG classics going now. Problem is I don´t have a paypal account or a credit card, which is dumb (wanted to create an account for some time now, but ah well.).
And do they even ship to Germany anyway?...ähem, yeah, you just download the game. I got it, I got it... xD

And I really wanted to hear what people who experienced the games in German have to say. Thanks four your feedback!

You might want to post on a German forum, e.g. http://kerzenburg.baldurs-gate.eu

Ah, that´s a good idea. Though I think I´ll just buy the games in English from GOG, even though I´ll probably miss the current promo!

Thanks for your help! :)

I bought Jade Empire in German, because I've never seen a copy anywhere in english. Note that my German is non-existent. Anyway, I asked anyone on the Jade empire forum if they could send me their dialog.tlk file, which someone kindly did. This changed all the ingame text from German to English, although it left the voice clips in German. BG1 & 2 both also use dialog.tlk, as do Kotor 1 & 2, and probably some others.

For BG1 & 2 I would really skip all this hastle, and buy the Gog version. Kotor 1 & 2 are both on steam. Planescape torment may be worth getting in german if you can't get hold of an english one. As far as I know Icewind dale is hardly worth playing.

Yeah, while reading through the forums I saw that getting the sound files might be a solution to by problem - but I´ll probably do as you said!
I´ll be quite busy for a while with DA:O though, so it might take some time till I buy the BG series! And I thought it might not be a great idea to buy all D&D games, don´t know if I´m even that type of player :D

The German voice over is pretty good i admit, but in no way better than the original. I bought the British 4in1 DVDs at German Amazon and the GOG versions.
