And I believe everyone has the same human nature. I live in a country where 95%+ people are white, catholic and ethnically pure-Polish. And guess what, we have everything from muders, to political conflicts, to racism (yes, the question "but against who if everyone's white lol?" is a good one in Polish context), antisemitism, robbery, financial manipulations, "ghettos" etc. And it's all done by white western-civilization catholics here. There are no differences. There can be a thieves, hateful people, murders of every race, gender, sexuality, religion, culture.
A nice thought but whatever shortcomings your country has they are not on par with other places in the world. Easten Europe has produced a higher standard of living than most of Latin America or Africa and they did so even under communism.
IsaacShep wrote...what understanding? It was nothing but racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, etlisms and the rest. Women had no rights, slavery existed, prosecution of homosexuality, more wars & conflicts than ever. Exactly what kind of understanding is that?
Real differences exist between peoples, cultures, nations, races, genders, and social classes. Just becase people were mean in the past doesn't mean they were wrong. Pretending we're all equal won't make it so nor will it somehow stop conflict.

That's the philosophical difference between us Issac. I believe human nature is largely fixed and unchangeable. That there are real differences between people across racial, gender, and class divides. This was understood for nearly all of human history until recently when hard truths were discarded in favor of protecting people's feelings. Society has grown too soft.
Congratulations, you are a sexist and a rascist
Atributing fundamental charactersitics based on race and gender, but not only that, completely disregarding how they are actually a product of social structures...
Can I ask you something? What is a difference between a man, as in sex, and man, as in gender? The answer to that question will show you why you are compeltely wrong.
Also, this was not "understood for nearly all of human history". This was forced and perpetuated by the dominant force - adult white males who own private property.

All people are born with equal rights and deserve equal respect if they don't hurt anyone. Seriously, what are you arguing? That you want to openly say that you think all black people, or all immigrants, or all women, or all gays are worse/inferior to you?Binary_Helix 1 wrote...

Uh oh the labels come out. I'm so scared.
IQ among racial groups is pretty different. You can measure that by the success of different civilizations. Hell you can even measure that amongst groups now. Asians don''t struggle in western countries nor do Jews who were once a hated group. The people who struggle are the same ones that left pretty horrible places in the first place with no history of anything other than squalor, conflict, stagnation, and failure. Their neighborhoods look much like that now too. I could overlook your lack of understanding on IQ but gender is not a social construct buddy. Not at all.
Male and female social norms are not the result of society or some other Marxist drivel. They are inate to all humans. A product of evolution. Males are naturally driven toward masculine endeavors while women are drawn to feminine ones.
Yes "evil white males" wrote history you want to know why? Because they created a civilization that conquered all others. Competition is a major part of the natural world and only the fittest survive. Can't blame them for being the best.

Hierarchy is a part of nature. Nature is cruel but society getting soft and delusional won't improve things.
Mass immigration, affirmative action, welfare policies, and various other forms of social engineering should be curbed.

All of that is attributable to western civilization. Our ideas, our technology, our way of life, borrowed and copied by others.

Nobody had freedom the way we think of it today. Women had to survive and that meant dependence on men. That didn't mean guys had it easy. Males are driven to compete because according to genetics research 80% of females reproduced while only 40% of men have across time. Males face a lot more sexual selection pressure than females. They always have.

This can only be applied to the last 60 or 70 years, which are irrelevant within the whole human history.
Ironically, this is probably the last century in which humankind will experience development, after that it's downfall to oblivion.
Ah, the white supremacy, what a gift to humankind.

Of course not. We appreciate the way of life that we do because of the hard work of the men and women who went before us. Women of the past were only dependent on men due to the societal rules which placed men in charge and relegated women to the role of breeder and child-raiser. I'm sure if women were seen to be equal human beings to men throughout history (allowed to own property, inherit, run businesses etc.) things would have been vastly different.
Males are driven to compete because according to genetics research 80% of females reproduced while only 40% of men have across time. Males face a lot more sexual selection pressure than females. They
always have.
Women faced the pressure of having nothing to recommend them beyond their vaginas and their ability to provide children. Women reproduced because they had to, and they often had no choice as to who they would reproduce WITH. I daresay there were fewer men reproducing because they actually had a choice in the matter.

OP is just telling it how it is. To me, Shepard is a man. There's no way I can see a woman doing half for physical stuff he does. You can get offended if you want to, but that's just how I see things.
Certainly. It makes sense to identify with the character you are playing, right down to gender. Which is why Shepard/Hawke/The Warden will always be women to me. Isn't it wonderful to have choices as gamers?
