I loled so hard when Varric went down in a battle in DA2 and Merril yelled out "you better not be faking Varric!" - nice little light hearted banter to yell accross the battlefield.

I want more of this: in-battle chatter. It reminded me of how legolas and gimli would make quips at eachother during battle. That stuff was gold.

It's the light hearted moments that make the drama really punch above it's weight!

I got tired of the repetition. Maybe this could be another slider-option. No verbal feedback, only important verbal feedback, important verbal feedback with rare combat smack-talk, all feedback.

I'd like that, though there's always a risk of it growing stale if they repeat the same combat lines over and over again. Maybe have specific lines for specific encounters instead of just everyday encounters.

I love when they say things to each other and the PC in battle, makes it feel more like they're a team. I'd really like to see this return for this game.

Thats not too hard to limit with a simple variable. Also, if you record lots and limit the amount of lines said per battle etc. then it wouldn't be an issue.Very simple design problem to be solved IMHO.

I enjoyed in battle chatter as well. There was some after and between battle chatter that I found very fun in DAII:Legacy. I hope there will be more of it in DAIII

I think Mass Effect 3 did this pretty well, although there wasn't too much of it? So sort of a combination of what ME3 did and what was already in DA2. Dialogue that's both plot-related and linked to the companions' personalities and how they feel about each other (Isabela sounding genuinely concerned about Merrill going down always made me feel warm inside).

The chatter was amusing. Less amusing were the cries when low on mana/stamina. Merrill when on blood magic mode:
"I only have a little left."
"Do you think they're tiring? I'm tiring."
"I'm sorry I can't do anymore!"
"Do you think they're tiring? I'm tiring."

SHUT UP already! She started as soon as the first enemy was in sight and continued to say these things during the entire battle. Every battle. The fact that I can type them from the top of my head says enough.

I like the combat dialogue, but it triggers waaaay too often. An alert for every time stamina goes down I can take, an alert for every second stamina is STILL down I cannot.

As much as I love Varric I eventually stopped taking him because there's only so much "ONE MORE FOR ME! HOW MANY YOU GOT HAWKE" I could take before I headdesk'd.

EDIT: Post above mine: EXACTLY. Merril is a blood mage, she doesn't need her mana. Hearing her constantly complaining about it being low when she has made it irrelevant (especially since sutainables are precentage based rather than flat) becomes Most Annoying Sound.

I loved the combat barks... except for the low mana one which got old quick. If they offered barks that changed according to the act, that would be cool. Also, please boost the volume on the companion barks and reduce the volume on the protagonist's. Unless he was right on top of the other NPC, I couldn't hear what the other guy was saying.

Someone's gonna fall and it's not gonna be me!
Let's spill some blood!
That was awesome in origins. Hawne's blabbering were pathetic.

Hm, I think the Origins ones are just as bad as DA2's in their lack of variety, more variety, thats all!

ME3 was a real step back in terms of combat banter. ME2 did it much, much better.

Squadmates really don't say anything at all in combat anymore, unlike in ME2 when every squadmate had signature lines for each power and for scoring a kill (hell, even ME had better combat banter than ME3).

ME2 would be my gold standard for combat banter in DA3.

Hearing party members react to other members falling in combat was great. The variety of combat cries left much to be desired- hearing "I'll show you why mages are feared" three times in a 10-second battle, every battle, gets a little wearying. Also sustain-activate screams like Fenris' were irritating.

Either do them less, add more variety, or give the player the option to set the frequency. And make sure that ALL of the lines get cycled through regularly.

Battle shouts are a ton of fun and at times heart-wrenching:

Would love to see more variety. :)

In-combat chatter during major fights, sure. In every fight ever, nah.

Script them.
