How many times has the protagonist of a story refused to give up his/her morals, and still come out on top in the face of impossible odds? Too many to count. This isn't real life, this is science fiction, and it's a video game, not "ART" as others would have you believe. BW still has room to write themselves out of this hole, via DLC or full blown expansion, with a successful refusal, plus any additional "unconventional" assets we might obtain through all SP DLC's

It isn't going to happen.

Bioware announced they were done with the endings after the EC. Any DLC from this point on is going to take place in the middle of the story, much like Leviathan.

They also said that the ending could be "tweaked" with the future DLC's.  They wouldn't even have to touch the 3 rainbow endings if all they did was add onto refuse.  Plus, didn't they say the EC would have no new endings....  oh, wait....

How is adding refuse not a new ending? you now have 4 choices instead of 3.

Refuse is "Critical Mission failure".

The new stargazer scene in Refuse says otherwise. Seriously. why do you make me waste my energy?

@ThaDPG, can you say where they said they could be "tweaked"?

As far as endings and dlc go. The very last dlc we received added extra exposition to the endings. that, in itself, "changed" the ending. Even if it was just dialogue. BW knows the endings are hot topic, it would be business suicide not to do "something".

Refuse is "Critical Mission failure".

but it is still a new option where you get a new scene of Liara's time capsule and the next cycle uses the crucible. That makes it a new ending choice

/Picard facepalm. That's two you've received I believe. Go into the "Was the ending a hallucination/indoctrinaiton" thread. I'm sure they'd say the same thing about Synthesis.

True, but with a brilliant speech like that, plus star kid acknowledging the Leviathans, it just seems like they're building up to something

Putting my issues with it aside, if it did become a legitimate ending then YES, it would be fair game.

But I don't really care what they canonize, really.

There isn't really, because Refuse is a non canon ending in the same way that the ending where everyone dies on the Suicide Mission is non canon.

If ME4 is set forward in the timeline Bioware is either going to make one of the  3 'win' endings canon (Destroy, Synthesis, or Control) or they are going to try and account for all of them. In either case, Refuse is going to be non canon because it is pushing the self destruct button on the entire universe. That, and it only exists in DLC. That alone guarantees that it will never even be on the table in any discussion regarding a canon ending of ME3.
