Would you be in favour of a "Virmire" style choice in DA3 where you are forced to choose between companions?

Do you feel these type of choices add to the game or would you prefer a NPC dying not to be outside of your control. Are these the type of choices you want to see in DA3?

I've included a poll below

social.bioware.com/2603331/polls/39557/

EDIT: Just to clarify I'm not proposing "Virmire" as an actual scenario, more a situation where there is no "Right" choice and guarenteed consequences

If it was not rushed sure, I felt a tad emotional on the Virmire quest because I kinda got used to having Ash around, so yeah if they can pull it off in D3 why not

Yep me too. Those choices that make you get up and start walking around with your hands on your hips for a few minutes are always good in my book. Plus I think it adds a bit of replayability also, as on another playthrough you can do the opposite or something different

I'm definitely in favor of difficult decisions like Virmire; the sort of quests and situations where there really is no "right" choice, something you will regret for the rest of the game. These sort of things are what can make an RPG memorable and great.

I would also like to see quests done in a similar style to the Suicide Mission; high-risk quests that feature multiple choices and decisions, multiple variables at work, and tactical foresight that goes beyond gameplay.

I'm a companion collector, I'd be somewhat annoyed if I couldn't have them all for the entire game.

Favor? No. Okay with it? Yes.

I don't want it to be a forced situation trying to re-live the dilemma of the first Mass Effect. It needs to be its own event.

I'd preffer a choice of about 5 tactical options, one of which meant I could save both companions.

I would prefer a Virmire type situation over the way the DAII took out a sibling based on our class. I would prefer choice over making the decision for us anytime. However, over all I prefer not to have anybody die. :)

If it isn't forced into being between two set companions, sure. The first time I did Virmire I used Garrus and Wrex, so I didn't care at all about Kaidan or Ashley.

If they're going to kill off companions I'd prefer it be more like it was in Dragon Age: Origins where they disagree with you and if you can't talk them down they attack you. Much better than just choosing between two people that you might not even care about. At least with the Origins way the companion is on the quest with you so the player actually cares about them somewhat.

I'd prefer the suicide mission from ME 2... in fact, I'd like the game to be full of them.

Not all have to end with character death (and depending on how many - a great deal likely shouldn't) - but many should end up with characters incapacitated - loyalty lost - etc. for poor choices.

There's more ways to lose than death - the suicide mission was amazing in that it was the first time in the modern CRPG era where the cast of an RPG felt like an ensemble instead of just arm candy for the singular chief protagonist. One protagonist storylines need to die painfully - especially in a medium where you could so easily change the POV to anything character.

Virmire is just a junior version of the suicide mission - and I feel it's a step backwards - but still better than having every decision in the game bare no weight what-so-ever (looking at you DA 2)

I'd prefer a vermeil style choice. That way we could have shiny golden objects at a fraction of the cost of true gold.

Only if we get a secret 'have sex with Morrigan' third choice like DA:O offered to its Virmire situation.

Cautiously, Yes.

My guess is if Developers implemented potential deaths of companions, it'll be more along the lines of Suicide Mission, where previous choices(from either previous games or DA3) affect whether that could happen. I'm game for the possibility, it just depends on the context of the story if it feels appropriate.

We did have something like that in DA2 towards the end. You have to kill Anders or lose Sebastian.

@Super.Sid: Sadly though - it was hardly a choice for most people (I imagine).

Those that liked Anders - probably hated Sebastian.

And those like me who preferred Sebastian likely had no qualms killing Anders.

With Kaidan and Ashley I think it was much harder for more people (even if most people simply chose their love interest)

I'm never in favor of companions dying. I tend to like them too much and get too attached for that. Not that deaths can't be a great part of a story, because obviously they can. So to answer your question...I'm probably gonna say no.

If its no brainer then yes, (virmire):i mean for me it was obvious who is going to be sacraficed and who will be saved.
If its temprorary companion like Mhairi that will sacrifice him/her self then i'm totally ok with that.

No Virmire please. Knowing that big choices never have big consequences later on game or in sequels, a Virmire situation won't work anymore. They got me on ME1, I won't fall for it again.

Unless it's a BAMF decision.

Save Alistair or Morrigan.

nnnnooooooo.....

No, I wouldn't be in favor of a Virmire-like situation in DA3.

At first I was wandering whether you meant keeping Wrex alive or the Kaiden or Ashely choice. Both would serve as an interesting aspect to DA3, but of course done differently so as not to rip from ME. Characters are only mortal (usually), and that alone puts them in jeopardy, especially if you grow to really feel and connect to them before giving the player the grim power of choice. So yes, choices much like these would serve the game greatly.

I will always want choice when it comes to the death of Companion Characters. Even if I screw up and end up losing a companion as a result, I believe there should always be the option to reload and save them.

Sacrificing one Companion for the sake of another can have great impact on both the Player and the Story, yet it maintains a level of Player Choice that is always good to have, especially when dealing with the Companions that Players will undoubtedly become attached to.

However, Bioware need to make sure they don't overuse that particular plot twist, if they use the "Virmire tactic" too much they'll get a lot of flak for it - I personally don't want to see it used in Dragon Age 3, not so soon after Mass Effect 3's multiple Virmire scenarios.

Clarifaction: By the "Virmire Tactic" I mean the scenarios in which you choose one companion character over another, I'm not talking about a direct rip straight off of Virmire.

Kaidan/Ashley Virmire situation is bad.

Mordin/Wrex "Virmire situation" is good.

Mordin and Wrex can't both live, it's impossible. For Mordin to live, Wreav needs to be the Krogan leader. But they didn't just make a scene and made you pick one out of the blue; instead, they made this a consequence of your choices.

I'm all in favor of well implemented difficult choices, but the DA team can find its own way to surprise us. No need to give us another Virmire.

While not exactly like Virmire, wasn't the choice after the greater plot event in Act 3 similar? One of them didn't die, but he had to left the party.
