In all seriousness, a civilization that has evolved in a remote part of the galaxy without the need for Mass Relays or Reaper tech may prove to be the most reasonable threat.

Do you really have to top the reapers? Is it really that necessary? Face the facts. The reaper plot got too unwieldy for the writers. Do you really want to tempt fate?

I'd just settle for a well written drama right now. Trying to top the reapers is a recipe for disaster. Writing a good solid story is a recipe for success.

The Leviathans if it's after ME3? When Shep talks to them they seem kind of ominous to me, and if destroy were to be the standard canon ending that could pave the way for their ascension, but that's just my opinion.

Mega Reaper vs Super Leviathan, like an awesome SYFY movie.

I'm all for character heavy, plot light.

Hmmm.... what.... about.... Godzilla vs. Leviathan. The two duke it out in Tokyo. Godzilla is defending Earth and we help. Awesome. In Japanese with subtitles.

I don't think they need to . I believe there are plenty of great stories to tell that aren't reaper centric .

I'm writing a sequel to a ME3/post-game fanfic I did a little while back. It's a post-synthesis story and the new antagonists are aliens who left the Milky Way at some period between harvests (they clued in to the Reapers' existence and got the hell outta dodge). They learn that the galaxy's new inhabitants have undergone synthesis and they return in force because they consider it an 'abomination' that they want to correct by reverting organics to 'their natural state' and subjugating synthetics. But in my story people like what synthesis has done for the galaxy, so... they regard these aliens as fanatical ****s for not embracing it.

See what I did there? ;)

I got to say, that sounds like a pretty good idea for a story

The 3 Leviathans.

Really? No real challenge there...

1 Leviathan can take control of an Army and take control of a Reaper, no sweat. Use your brain and creative juices, not let Bioware do it for you.

Almost like a Leviathan is just as strong as Harbinger. But the reason why Leviathan didn't get us a happy ending is because of Artistic Integrity *I said it*.

What possible menace or threat could possibly be as dreadful? Or does the next installment focus even more on characters, with any antagonistthreat feeling secondary. Characters are their strong suit afterall.

It was set up in ME3. Leviathans.

Or it could be the Dark Energy plot. (We don't need scary monsters as our antagonist. Scary ideas are just as good.)

in ME1 and ME2 the Reapers were just a scary idea.  ME3 made them real, and like so many things, reality doesn't stand up against our own imaginations.

its kinda like a horror movie.  i find the ones that **** with you head, the ones that you don't actually see a whole lot (paranormal activity is the most recent one like this for me) are much more terrifying than something with a ton of gore.

Batman is mortal and can be killed.

If we are allowed to have way out ideas what about Superman's chances with a reaper in a fight?

Or the Empire from Star Wars

Screw that. I'll put my Champion of Cyrodill from Oblivion against them. Damage reflection 125%. Magic reflection 125%

CoC: Step aside, Shepard! Let me handle this!
Shepard: You have no idea what these things can do!
CoC: Trust me! I've faced worse.

CoC walks briskly toward the beam. Harbinger fires full blast of Thanix Laser and scores direct hit. Harbinger melts into a puddle of slag. Shepard stands there with her jaw hanging open.

TIM tries to control the CoC and his head explodes. CoC tosses Anderson some cheese. Oh and don't forget the Wabbajack.

So we are led to believe.

Superman would just need to get near a yellow sun for a minute or so, then he'd be flying through reapers like nothing.

I'm hoping they don't try to outdo the reapers, otherwise it could just end up with  a list of enemies which just gets more and more ridiculously overpowered, especially considering how overpowered the reapers were.

What about these?

Super Star Destroyer, 1800 kilometers long, That's bigger then a reaper, or if you must include Star Wars the Death Star itself and it has it's own super deadly laser........

Unicron is as big as a planet. Now that would be cool.

Bioware reapers!

they come back every 3 to 5 years or so to ruin another game.

The only way to stop them is to give feed back on where they f***ed up only to have them ignore you and do the opposite.

Fighting the reapers would be easier then fighting Bioware reapers if you think about it.

You don't need a bigger threat to make a good game.. Beatable threats not involving space magic would work just fine for me.
