This.
It is a big galaxy. There is plenty of room for more than one hero.
As I said, it all depends on the concept of the future game. If the game takes place 200 years after ME 3.... you know what I'm trying to say
If the next Mass Effect game is a sequel, I think they should set it at least a couple centuries after the events of the Shepard trilogy.
It just makes more sense to jump forward a couple centuries rather than having these major galaxy-threatening crises arrive every decade or so.

Personally I'm looking forward to another Mass Effect game and if I'm being really honest I couldn't care less about the timeline they decide to go with. As long as it's fun, with an engaging story, romance and likeable characters.
Will Shepard make a comeback in it? I highly doubt it. He's had his story and played his part in the galaxy. Whether he died or not in our playthroughs will be a non topic. He might get a mention, sure. But that's probably about it. A new hero will take the forefront. Maybe a few decades or centuries down the line.
My biggest wish? Playable race choice, with origin stories a la DA:O.
Human/Asari/Turian/Drell(?)/Krogan, maybe even one of the newer races that had mention in ME3.
I'm not sure about a new kind of threat though. I mean, how do you top the possible annihilation of all organgic species? A power struggle between the races? I don't know. Maybe one of the features in the game could be to fix the relays as you go, as this is the only way to progress and get on with your story?
Anyway, my wishes aside. Whether Shepard died or didn't in your game, hasn't he earned his retirement? Hasn't s/he earned that beachside cocktail, or blue babies... or whatever have you. I know mine sure did. No matter what the devs said about that infamous 'last breath' scene. They're just trolling for the hell of it to stir up debate about whether he's alive or not. If people aren't talking about the game, they don't care about it anymore and they can't have that. Why make it so difficult in the first place to get max galaxy rating? Sorry guys, but I'm stubborn. My Shepard survived and you can say whatever you want about that scene and all your 'what ifs....', but you can't take away my head cannon.
I also don't think it will be called Mass Effect 4. Or rather, it shouldn't be. It will be more like Mass effect: <insert random word/s that fit the story here>
So yeah..... umm... what was the point of this thread? Oh right, a poll. I best go do that now

Shepard's story should be done; let him/her be spoken of respectfully, or toasted or something. Having him/her wandering through another game would be parody.

I think Shepard deserves a while to do what he wants lol.

I belive, bioware promised, there will be one more story of Shepard.
In any case, I think the story should have as little connection to the orignal trilogy as possible.
Normally I'd agree, problem is Shepards exit from the Mass Effect Universe was a piece of crap, so one more try please
Yes, this is only reason, why I want him again in the game.

Actually sounds good. Maybe even have the new character bump into Liara, or Samara if she's still kicking.

And the starkid did seem to be pretty truthful with what he said. He said Shepard would die during the destroy ending. Shepard is done.ratzerman wrote...
Shepard is dead. The devs even went out of their way to point out that the "alive" ending could very well be a last breath. Whatever this new game is, those who buy it will be playing as someone new.

tbh if you ever saw someone die, this wasn´t a last breath! and why the hell call a file "shepard alive" when she/he isn´t?
Pretty much this destroy he lives because its the only ending that makes alick of sense concerning how shepard woudl do things
Paragons don't pick genocide when other options are available. Destroy is fundamnetally renegade.

agree, depending on how they go about the next game. if shepard lived then allow him or her a small role, if not at least bring him or her up every so often. If it is a spin off , then well bring his or her deeds up every so often
don't need shepard as a playable character , but no need to cut shepard completely out of the next installment if it is a spin off or sequel

It adds no value to story. It upsets fans. Why go there? Screw predictability. Everyone's doing death now. Its not a new twist in video games.
I won't argue this with anyone, its just so silly.

so i would want that in my game if the ME4 story is after ME3 but i think its very likely they may do a prequel to ME1 maybe set in the Turian War when earth activates the mass relay and the system alliance takes this chance to take control of Earth by setting up the Systems Alliance Parliament

Bioware stated after Mass Effect 2 that Mass Effect 3 would be Shepard's finlw. It has to have some connection, because taking place in another galaxy would be completely different.Lizzarder wrote...

i have to disagree. every new hero will be compared to shepard. this new hero can only loose such a contest.
look at the sh*tstorm hawke got. DA:O players wanted their grey warden back - and that even after only one game. the grey warden was a very good character with a strong background - a solid hero. he/she got only one game without VO (wich adds tons of charisma) and still - the players wanted him/her back. i personaly disliked hawke - the character was charmless to the bone (compared to my silent warden).
now imagine what will happen to the newcomer. shepards personality has been build up over three games - in the fashion we wanted him/her to be. we had all the possible shepards - the full spectrum of human psycology and social behaviour. we made him do what he/she did we saved the galaxy - with shepards mask on.
even if we would give the new hero a fighting chance, the new hero will loose. we all are shepard and the mass effect universe is tied to this character like no other.
you can´t replace a legend.
they tried it with the masterchief from halo and it failed bid time. shepard is even more likable and close to the players.

because you decide for control, and thats your good right as all others have the right to do choose the ending they like, and it´s fine that you choose the totalitarion dictatorship and call it freedom, thats what all dictators do btw, but that doesn´t give you the right to dictate others that your view of the world is the ultimate truth.Eterna5 wrote...
