I think spears are sexy. Not the oversized, multi-pronged ones, though. Simple, elegant ones. It would be cool to see one-handed and two-handed varieties of them, though. Pikes, of course, take two hands, but the early northern European-style ones were intended to be used with a shield.

But yeah, polearms are definitely under-represented.

If I got to use a rapier as an Orlesian rogue, I would be quite happy.

No, much less variety please, at least within the types, if they become much more varied we'll find ourselves here..

I'd think the scale for making cooler looking fantasy weapons is from mundanely 'real' looking to graceful or vicious without being caricature-ish, not just making them bigger, lumpier, more outlandish and unbelievable.

TES does a pretty decent job of this I think, where the iron stuff looks like pretty generic, 'realistic' gear, and as you get up towards daedric things start getting more stylized but still don't strain credulity to to the point where you're thinking "What on earth am I going to do with that?!".

Also, models that all fall into the same weapon type should all suit that type's combat animations. For instance I can't imagine this, this and this would all be used the same way in combat, but I still get characters stabbing with cleavers or slashing with picks, and it looks silly.

Double edged swords and flintlock rifles/guns would be great.

I really liked the chakrams in KoA: Reckoning. Maybe for a rogue instead of a mage for DA.

I've read Oglaf and know what the dwarves are capable of. No sexy weapons, thankyouverymuch.

Spears can definitely be a bad@ss or as cinematic as swords.

As an example, just check out this from 3:31.

I'm not so bothered by the absence of spears. I'm not a medieval combat expert, but they don't seem like they're the weapon of choice for the small scale formation less fighting you get in CRPGs. Particularly if there's no guys on horses that mean you want the reach.

And they do need totally new animations to work properly.

I think that is the biggest reason why you don't see spears often in fantasy RPGs.

Axes can largely use many of the same animations as swords, but spears and other polearms would require different animations in order to look right.

Well said. Most, if not all, Manga/Anime inspired things just are ridiculous -- be it weapons or armours.

Agreed.

Although this thread is focused on weapons rather than armor, I hope the dev team sticks to armor designs that are based on or inspired by real armors. Pauldrons of Ridiculous +20 just look silly to me. A guy with 90 pound blocks of steel on his shoulders doesn't look cool IMO, he just looks lame.

Anyone interested in seeing a larger variety of models for weapons in DA3? Both DA:O and DA2 had a decent variety of weapon appearances, but wouldn't you like to see more of them in DA3? Also, anyone interested in seeing the return of spears, halberds, and the like?

Erm, spears and halberds haven't been in any of the DA games thus far, so how can they "return"?  Shouldn't we be requesting their introduction instead of return?

I would like it a lot if they'd add at least 1 more weapon type for all the classes, yes.  I'd also really like it if all the classes had ranged options of some kind.

Whew! When I first read the first statement of the OP, I thought it was about larger weapons. I despise oversized weapons.

As for "sexy" weapons, I would interpret that to be intricate, personalized weapons with unusual designs and shapes. Great idea in concept. Implementation might be another thing. It could result in significantly higher polygon counts for something that the player notices only a few times. It could just be a boring re-skin of existing weapons (which is far too obvious to me).

Still with enough development time, it could be possible to create a wide range of unique weapons without a performance impact. Given the ETA, I have doubts about the time they can spend on that.

The murder knife got a nice, sexy makeover in DA2.

I support sexy murder knives.

Toning down on the greatswords hilts would be nice, because they seem to reek of overcompensation.

Maybe too eastern to fit in DA, but this is the sort of 2 handed sword that I think is sexy.

Zweihanders are cool too

It would be nice, at the very least, to see Rapiers and other, lighter, swords.

And maces.... In fact, now that i've thought about it - What happened to the maces? Origins had tons of maces! One Handed, Two Handed, Three Handed, okay maybe not three handed, but there were maces everywhere!
