I hope DA3 puts a bit of horror into the storyline or a quest or two. I thought the Deep Roads in DAO (well, mostly the part where you meet Hepsith and then find the Broodmother) was horrifying.

I wouldn't mind being forced to crawl around a haunted house again. Just throw in some distorted stop-animation dead children chasing me down a hallway and my hero will have officially crapped her armor.

Maybe they should get Guillermo del Toro in on this...

Which would creep people out more?
1. Creature-feature horror (zombies aka darkspawn, monsters etc) in DA3 or
2. something a bit more disturbing like what Hepsith did? Or hauntings, possession etc?

Does anyone else agree they could make demonic possession a little more terrifying? Get some Exorcist action in there...

I don't know. I was greatly disturbed by "the Mother" in Awakening.

Horror is always awesome, I played "Amnesia:The Dark Descent" and crapped my pants more than I care to count!
And yeah that part was creepy as hell and I loved it!

YES!

DA2 (and, to a lesser extent, even DA:O) really made the demon-possession/Abomination thing way too trivialized.
Abominations were just popping up left and right, often with no real rhyme or reason.

The act of having one's whole being, body and soul, merged with a demon should be a horrific act, one with wide-reaching and terrifying consequences. It should also have build up, emotional investment, and real meaning. Not "Oh, god, I'm cornered. Go go gadget, Abomination!".

creepiness is great

I'd also like more tunnel exploration where vision is limited by torch or magical orb - which could also limit the perception of seeing enemies ahead of the group leading to more ambush/surprise. (not all the time, just here and there).

Haunted houses are scary, if designed correctly. No mercy, you know?

Here's a 3 minute horror film that managed to scare me worse than any full length high budget movie. Maybe the DA3 hero could walk into a situation like this. Oh god. I would die. Seriously, this clip is scary. It's not bloody or anything. Just... very scary...

(please don't hate me after watching it all alone in your house, lol)

Ugh that was simply horrible. Demonic possession is supposed to be among the most (if not the most) terrible thing that can happen to a mage but like you said in DA2 it seemed like using a gadget.

But all throughout DA2 it seems the writers didn't even remember there was this funny thing called 'lore' in regards to demons and possession - seriously all this talk about demons are only interested in mages and they suddenly possess a templar. Or what about demons will NEVER obey a mage who summons them but here they fight with basic blood mages in DA2.

Seriously BioWare, stick to the lore or don't bother trying to make a good story at all if you cannot do that. It's like Mass Effect: Deception all over again.

I'll stop ranting about how poor a job BioWare did on DA2 when it comes to lore (among other things) now:pinched:

If they can somehow re-create the feeling I got when first starting to hear about the *SPOILERS* vampires in the graveyard in Baldur's Gate 2 I'll be very happy. Or the wailing dead in the Graveyard in Neverwinter Nights for that matter. I don't know, those two places/situations just gave me that actual 'horror' chill fist time I played them... Especially the vampires in BG2. Maybe it was because I was younger back then, I dunno, but nothing in the Dragon Age felt genuinly scary to me as a player... I think the werewolf ruin in Origin came the closest, followed by Hepsith's poem.

That was well done, as well as that building in Denerim's alienage with the blind templar. With the existence of things like blood magic and abominations, there should definately be some quests that have that kind of creepiness to them.

If the PC was a mage maybe she could see spirits/ghosts around batte fileds hearing them whisper.
or maybe some creepy music like shepards nightmare, with combination of Hepsith style quest.

or maybe have the pc and co locked in a haunted location where we hear things but don't know what to expect

It's scary how Dragon Age can be more scarier than Cthulhu like creatures from space turning everyone into cybernetic monsters while harvesting everyone else.

Mass Effect 3 had potential.

The 1st time I ran through the mummystein quest in DA2 it was decent horror. I would like BioWare to do a totally separate horror based game.

Horror was present in DA2, but it was under-served. There were scary moments like "Haunted" and I personally like the scene where Huon powers up with the blood of his dead wife, but you were bombarded with so many demons, abominations and undead that it became humdrum after a while and the game never really attempted to convey an atmosphere of horror.
