Here's what I would like to see:

Instead of having a bunch of companions, and you pick one from the "romancable" lot to be your Love Interest, how about if you instead pick a "Close Relationship" option from ANY of the companions, with the option to attempt to romance.

Let me clarify. We'll use DA2 as my frame of reference.

Assume Hawke picks Isabela as his "close relationship". You get scenes of them getting close, drinking at the bar, maybe stealing stuff down at the docks, really just having fun. You CAN pursue a romance (which, if done right, would be reciprocated), but you could also instead pursue a "best friend" style relationship.

Personally, in DA2, I cared little for any of the romance options. But my male Hawke would have been absolute best buds with Varric given the choice. Instead of a sex scene, they could have a scene where Hawke and Varric get drunk on the pier, with Hawke tossing bottles into the ocean, betting on whether or not Bianca could shoot them before they hit the water. Just ... bonding, you know? A close friendship.

In either case, your "close relationship" (be it romance or friendship) would result in a combat bonus for the two characters when both are present, or perhaps special combos that can only be accomplished when you have matched your fighting style in harmony.

It's just a thought, and I'm welcome to criticism. Thanks!

Sounds like the Garrus hang out scene in DA3, except not on the Citadel lol.

Just before the final battle the new pc could have a final get together with the whole team, and have a dinner at a large table talking about there aadventures and what they plan to do after the war. I would like somthing like that to happen and having some fun timw with the crew would be a welcome change

Shouldn't this kind of relationship be possiblewith more than one person?

Possible, but I was looking for a more mechanical benefit to go along with your story benefit, thereby limiting it to one BFF/LI.

I like this idea, I'd like my character to develop a *really* close friendship with one or two of her/his companions, and just be general friends with the others. At the moment, I always try to max out friendship (or rivalry in DA2) to get the benefits/make sure they don't turn on me/whatever, even if I don't consider my character close to them, so it would be nice to differentiate.

Also good for people who aren't interested in romance or the characters available.

Yeah I don't like that you need to romance a character to know everything about them and get the bestest scenes.

Shouldn't you be able to become BFFs with most of your party, not just one of them?

I like this idea OP, though perhaps make it for two characters but you can only romance one of them. So your options would be one best friend one lover, or two best friends.

So really, you just want more interactions with the characters.

I like this idea. I don't really want it instead of a romance, but it would be cool if we had a chance to choose a bro of the team that also might be the one chosen to do certain tasks like coming to the Inquisitors aid should a scene happen where he needed it for a special cutscene to be justified.

this is such a cool idea. they sort of implied it with varic last time, but i'd love to have an actual bff in DAI. in fact, if they introduced that, i think it would become the more important companion relationship to me than the LI would.

Saw tittle in topic section, was like ah god...
*clicked and read*

i actually like this idea.it would give each run through different value towards "friendship/rival".or it your friends and end up becoming rivals.maybe the rift will be worse then just say from companion to rival

I agree! After hearing about that idea I can't stop thinking about it. Please do it Bioware.

Awesome suggestion, Maclimes! I'm all for featuring platonic relationships that feel as personal as the romantic relationships.
