Do support it! Wholeheartedly! Though have little fate in it to be implemented.

What. When I don't romance Anders he's always my best friend, along with Isabela (with benefits) and Varric.

Anders is Che Guevara to my Hawke's Fidel Castro. Anders is Leon Trotsky to my Hawke's Vladimir Lenin. Comrades working together for the Revolution.

lol at people wanting to get friendzoned in a videogame.

I'll be honest - your reply made me actually laugh out loud really hard.

Can any character ever friendzone a protagonist as hard as Aveline did? That was one of the best parts of DA2.

ETA: Best friend decisions seem to come from fans after a game is released. Can anyone argue that Garrus wasn't the fandom B.F. for Shepard and Varric the B.F. for Hawke? It would be interesting if each player could designate a "bromance" and benefit from it narratively or mechanically. As either a romance leadup or as a close relationship outside of romance.

Every time I heard the line "You've been a good friend, better than I deserve", the urge to gently hand Anders a kitten and hug him was nigh overwhelming.

One of the reasons I find it difficult to have Hawke romance other companions is because I really support Anders' goals and I don't feel like you support him as much as just a friend.

 Really good idea OP!

I think you got that way in DA2 with some of the non romancables (i.e. Varric warning you about crazy human/human mage/elf/elf mage out of concern, or getting friendzoned by Aveline) and in DAO (like the "girl talk" with Leliana about Alistair).

It just kind of sucked that you really couldn't get the same BFF vibe with the LIs. It wasn't like I could just "chill" with Fenris if it didn't include awkward sexual tension, or be nice to him without sleeping with him.

Also, adding a friendzone option to torture Anders further would be a reward in itself, because I'm a horrible person that likes to string people along

I like it! :D

More variety and options to do something in different ways is always fun, which is the reason I liked the friend/rival system in DA2. I'd certainly go along with this.

I felt Varric was sort of like a big brother figure for my Hawkes, and certainly closer to him than some of the others. I would have liked to pursue that kind of closeness.

So you mean a bromance?

This is a very good idea. One shouldn't have to be in a romantic relationship to really get to know and have special interactions with your favorite companion.

What would be cool is added benifits to becoming close friends, & I'm not talking like stat increase or extra dialog trees but something like you not being able to persuade or intimidate a Character on your own... Then if your influence is high enough with your Bestbud they can jump in & make the attempt succesful!

Id like a LI and a best friend.
Like romancing Kaidan and having Garrus as your best buddy. Ya know, someone who doesnt come onto you when your already in a relationship. (*cough* Anders)

It doesn't just apply to guys, but I think that is the general idea, yeah.

If I want to be all girly-girl with Leliana and talk about hair and shoes and crap, that should be allowed on a path that doesn't lead to flirting.

Here's what I would like to see:

Instead of having a bunch of companions, and you pick one from the "romancable" lot to be your Love Interest, how about if you instead pick a "Close Relationship" option from ANY of the companions, with the option to attempt to romance.

Let me clarify. We'll use DA2 as my frame of reference.

Assume Hawke picks Isabela as his "close relationship". You get scenes of them getting close, drinking at the bar, maybe stealing stuff down at the docks, really just having fun. You CAN pursue a romance (which, if done right, would be reciprocated), but you could also instead pursue a "best friend" style relationship.

Personally, in DA2, I cared little for any of the romance options. But my male Hawke would have been absolute best buds with Varric given the choice. Instead of a sex scene, they could have a scene where Hawke and Varric get drunk on the pier, with Hawke tossing bottles into the ocean, betting on whether or not Bianca could shoot them before they hit the water. Just ... bonding, you know? A close friendship.

In either case, your "close relationship" (be it romance or friendship) would result in a combat bonus for the two characters when both are present, or perhaps special combos that can only be accomplished when you have matched your fighting style in harmony.

It's just a thought, and I'm welcome to criticism. Thanks!

Fully support a bromance.

I'm for it OP. It's what you'd call 'bromance'. I think BioWare games in general would benefit from having that as an option. Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 (some characters, like Garrus and Vega) were good examples although you still had to deal with some characters not seeming to get that close relationship =/= romance (Liara).

It'd be cool to have a choose-able 'best friend' in the game. I like how they had that with Varric in DA2 although I'd fully support the idea of that role being any one of your companions.

Imagine your PC + BFF + LI in a party together. The bonuses!

Hit the tavern, get drunk, play Wicked Grace and complain about your LI

Sounds like fun. :)
