so i've been looking everywhere and cannot find a solution. Whenever i either hit play on the launcher or try to start it via the .exe file i get an error message that states something along the lines of "failure to start the file due to an error" and gives me this code:0xc0000005. i've tried reinstalling the program multiple times and still no solution idk if you need the hardware but it is on a dell studio 15 with 4GB of ram, windows 7 64-bit, an integrated intel 4500HD graphics card(don't comment about), intel core 2 duo T6500 2.1 GHz and yep...need anything else just yell and thanks for helping in advance!!
(please help ; ; i wana play!!

First off, i want to apoligize if this is the incorrect thread or if this problem was answered elsewhere (i searched google and the forum search using key phrases like RaenImrahl suggested in the "read first" post (http://social.biowar...8/index/7280573) and this is the only thing that came up.
Secondly, I apoligize for the length or if there is any confusion.
Thirdly, allow me to answer the required questions that Raenmrahl listed in the above link:
Edition: Original Release
Format: Retail Disc
Patch: can download latest patch available, i have 1.01 and 1.03 saved on my computer, i tryed downloading the patches and first before trying DAO with no luck
HARDWARE SPECS (as listed in the DAO Configuration Utility):
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
Clock Speed: 3011 MHz
RAM: 4 GB
Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
VRAM: 256 MB
Version: 285.62
Sound Adapter: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) Version 6.0.6002.18005
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
DirectX Version: 10.0 (March 2009) or later (its what it says
)
No mods are installed, as I have not even been able to start DAO vanilla I have done so before in the past with no issues, which says, yes, I've played it before and this is just a recent problem.
The Issue: Recently I needed to do a system recovery due to a virus, so I was in the process of reinstalling my games when I ran across this issue when I start DAO:
*Dialog Box: daorigins.exe - Application Error*
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok to terminate the application."
I have tried multiple suggestions (some would notice these are some of the same steps used in http://social.biowar...y-692820-1.html, though i didn't know at the time that it was ME2 forum) in trying to fix this problem including:
Reinstallation (multiple times before I realized how serious of a problem this was)
Updating Drivers (which I did on all fronts to the best of my knowledge)
Scanning for virus (yes, even after the system recovery, none were found)
Registry Cleaning
Defragging Hard Drive
Calling EA tech support (all the guy could think of is that the disk is damaged, which I proved that its not)
Installing by copying files from disk and putting them in a folder on my desktop and installing (what the EA tech guy suggested)
Copying and pasting .dll files from the bin_ship folder and putting them into C:>Windows>system (and system32) folders...I had a missing .dll problem before (LONG before said system recovery) and thought this was the same issue
At a lose here, not a computer genius, tried my best, any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated. If you need any additional info, let me know and I will do my best to get it.
Thank you.

It's been 2 days and since I haven't gotten a reply, I figured I would just give an update:
Did more digging in the sticky forums and still found nothing
Discovered by accident that trying to play DAO with no disk in the drive yields the same error, instead of no disk in drive messsage (not sure if this helps, but it could so might as well say it)
I hope someone sees this and can at least put in some input on what is going on, any information is appreciated. Thanks

Personal recommendation would be to save any files that you want to keep and do a complete Operating system reinstall. It is most likely that the recovery has an issue somewhere that may or may not be related to the virus, or just a simple corruption. But your most likely fix is to start clean and get a virus protection up BEFORE loading any files back that you saved.

Thanks for responding, but is there ANYTHING else you can think of? i just spent the better part of the week updating and reinstalling everything to the point where i was better off before my system recovery and already used 1/2 my data allowance for the month doing so (i use a verizon aircard for internet, dont ask, its my only option)

You may try one of the commercial fix-it programs........no I don't know a good one. Check your memory to see if it is a hardware issue there, use a memtest program to see. Reinstallation of things such as C++, directX 9.0c, directX 10, and your base hardware drivers and such. Maybe pray that someone here or another board knows more and has a better answer. But I have personally heard of too many issues on a Virus recovery to want to keep it, if it was my computer.

I'l try that then, and praying too. Just as a general question would I see any other problems crop up somewhere? It seems DAO is the only thing thats given me trouble since the recovery

Out of curiosity, what is your antivirus program? A while back, several of the programs were incorrectly identifying one of the critical DAO program files as a virus and quarantining or deleting it without notification (Avast and AVG, if memory serves). It's vaguely possible that something similar is happening.
I have to agree with mcsupersport, though. Most modern viruses are far too good at hiding to use a recovery point as a way of wiping them.

well, truthfully, all i have is the standard microsoft security essentials, so no real antivirus other than windows defender, which im sure im inevitably going to get berrated for,and after i system recovered, i didnt find anything (im scanning now to be sure) but to clearify, i didnt use a "recovery point" i did a COMPLETE system recovery (wiped EVERYTHING) and i was under the impression that starting vanilla wiped virus' out. Also, im not sure if this is because i didnt get the chance to start up DAO due to this error, but the files in the folders look different (the icons i mean)...like something was deleted like u suggested or not installed or missing, maybe its just me being paranoid and desperate bc i cant exactly recall if they look right or not. At any rate, thank you both for chiming in, for a while i was beginning to think this was the black death of DAO problems and nobody wanted to deal with it, haha. any addtional imput is appreciated =)

Security essentials is actually not that bad. I have it on several of my systems. It is good at identifying a virus once you get one. It isn't as good at preventing the infection in the first place, particularly from web sites. I use NoScript addon for firefox to help with that.
My guess is that the system recovery didn't quite go right.

Did the OP system say a recovery install or did it just say install OP system?? Because if you didn't use a recovery point, and you didn't format the drive, but just "fixed" the current OP system, that can cause issues lingering. But it almost sounds like you just got finished with fresh full install of the OP system including a format of the disc....in which case I would bet on a program like c++ or something being missing that you had installed in the past that you haven't gotten around to putting back on yet.

hmmm, i coulda sworn i saw something in the windows update saying that said something about C++ but im skimming thru the update history and im not seein it, would c++ missing effect other games, bc im checked other games and they run fine (DA2, WoW, witcher1, assassin's creed 1, 2, and brotherhood, etc.). and if it is, where do i go to fix such an issue and r there other things i need to consider getting (or re-getting?) to help?

Very possible that is the issue, have seen that one cause issues. Probably is supposed to be on disk, but sometimes it doesn't install. There are hundreds of programs that you slowly add to your computer that help new programs work, and when you start fresh, you don't have them. I went through some of this when I built my computer and updated to Win7.....was an adventure getting all the little things that used to be on my computer in XP back or close to back or updated versions back....you get the idea.
It could also be one of a hundred other programs that makes your comp tick...such as a specific manufacturer updated driver or program.

Well, just tried it, and unfortunately, im getting same message, tried reinstalling using the "install DAO, awakening, patch 1.04, THEN play" method also to no avail, unable to get a hold of my brother for now...but i did look through the install logs that save into the documents folder looking for errors (ctrl "f", find: error) and found this in the "DAO 1.03" and "DAO 1.04" logs:
[Friday Nov 04 11:24:31 2011] GameuxInstallHelper::RemoveFromGameExplorer(g {B4CD0549-CB71-4AAD-BAFB-34A47A2A1897}) error
[Friday Nov 04 11:24:31 2011] GameuxInstallHelper::RemoveTasks(g {B4CD0549-CB71-4AAD-BAFB-34A47A2A1897}) error
...to be honest ive no freaking clue what that means, if anything
Also, the only folder thats in the Documents>Bioware>Dragon Age folder is the "Settings" folder, is this bc it didnt install correctly or is it bc i didnt get the chance to begin DAO and the addtional ones appear after that fact?
