So I got Borderlands 2 on Tuesday(midnight release).

The main menu for the game is amazing. Its dynamic, and I think Dragon Age 3 would be better for having a similarly styled main menu. For those who haven't seen it, here's how it goes-

Your character stands in the world of Pandora as the camera pans around him/her showing off the scenery. Your friends' characters(since the game is co-op) show up in the background as well.

Talking to a friend I wondered, how cool would it be if Dragon Age 3 had something similar?

The main character of DA3 standing in Thedas, an appropriate area of it for the story(Orlais?) while the camera pans around him/her.

Since the game is singleplayer, why not have it so that currently acquired squadmates also appear in the background(where Borderlands 2's co-op characters would be)?

I like the idea, so I decided to suggest it.

Here's pics and video of the Borderlands 2 main menu for those who want to see what I'm talking about-

That, that would be a pretty good idea actually.

Neat idea! It could load some kind of marker from your most recent save game and render the menu on top of that scenery. So for example, say you saved your last game at that bridge where you see the legion of darkspawn marching far below, and the archdemon swooping past. The background would be that "cell" or room with nothing but lighting. Same idea if you save by that awesome pond in MotA, or in the woods by the dalish. You know what I mean. :-)

I don't know how difficult it would be to have the backdrop be the place where you last saved. Probably hard as hell.

I'm fine with just a cool backdrop or set of backdrops.

For example, DAO would've had one with Denerim, Orzammar, The Brecilian Forest, Ostagar, etc etc.

DA2 would've had...well, you know.

I wouldn't say no to something like that. Darksiders 2 does a similar thing where it will show Death in the environment, and when you hit continue, it instantly spins the camera around and allows you to take control.

That said, I also wouldn't mind a nice piece of artwork or something as we've had previously.

The Borderlands 2 main menu is so atmospheric, I've been sitting on it for the last 30 minutes just enjoying the music and the scene of Maya standing on the cliff overlooking the waterfall, lake, and vastness of Pandora.

DA3 having something like that would be SICK. I'd definitely be more interested in the game with something like that, and its just the MENU.

Dynamic menus are amazing and definitely give people a good first impression of the game.

Every time me and my buddies jump on to play Borderlands 2, we're like, "Damn that menu is amazing"

Have to agree, a dynamic menu would be great. Even Jade Empire's menu changed depending on what chapter you were in. As far as a backdrop for where you last saved goes... yeah, that would be cool as hell, especially since I tend to forget exactly what it was I was doing before I logged out last. :x

I think if they had the backdrop/scene change depending on where your last save was, it should be based on major cities/locales.

Not just wherever you happened to be standing last, hahaha

Both KOTOR games do this as well. The main menu changes depending on how far into the game you are.  KOTOR2 won't show Darth Traya on the main menu until the time in the story says it's OK to show her, for example.

And that's what I was thinking about squadmates on the menu. Say in DAO you let Sten and Leliana die in Lothering- they would never appear on the load screen for you.

Say you did recruit Leliana but she ended up dying on the quest to obtain Andraste's Ashes- she'd be on the main menu up to that point and then not be there anymore.

Zevran if recruited would be on the main menu up to the point where he possibly betrays you and gets killed- if so, he wouldn't appear in the main menu after that.

Get it?

MINT IDEA IS MINT.

That would be lovely, and it would make you eager even before starting/loading a game. And already create a good atomosphere/mood XD. You have to wonder why all games don't do that.

Wouldn't fit the feel of some games. But games like Borderlands 2, Skyrim, Dragon Age, I think it'd fit them.

Of course, Skyrim didn't do it, but it would've worked for them as well. Though Skyrim's very simple main menu works too.

I think the dynamic main menu would be better for DA just because of the fact that it will affect the player on a psychological level and hopefully draw them into the world before they even start playing.

I wish there were Dragon Age avatars for the PS3. The DAO logo or Loghain would make a great one. =)

Maybe we'll see DA3 themed ones in the future^

Were you somehow under the impression that I didn't understand you or something?

Mint idea is moldy.

And appropriate atmospheric music to match.

I love Borderlands 2's main menu music.

Mind immediately went to Half-Life 2 and Portal/Portal 2 which show active scenes based on the player's current progress. Even a little bit Dead Space 2 in there as well which changes only a little depending on the player's progress.

I dunno. It might allay some fears to keep the menu style they've had rather than changing it to give the impression that we're no longer playing Dragon Age anymore.

Each to their own.

I've never associated the type of main menu to what game series it is, but that's an interesting way to look at it.

Thinking about it, this is a hell of a way to show off the new art style and game engine.

Like, "Hey, check out the scenery. Brand new, OOH, AHH, LOOK OVER THERE THATS CALLED A TREE AND IT SWAYS"

Jade Empire did this as well.

I prefer the stylized main menus used in the DA games, to be honest.

I also liked in Darksiders II, the main screen is with Death standing whereever you left off.
