How would you feel about bundling the tool with a demo or character creator? I suggest it in the interests of utility, keeping useful things together.

Given the engine overhauls, they'd need to put a character creator in DA3 for them for that to happen.AdmiralDavidAnderson wrote...
What about the Faces of Warden and Hawke if they are in the game though?

I "need" a way to incorporate my Orlessian Warden from Awakening in the main story.
Same here as my Orlesian Warden is my favorite one. I really want to incorporate him into the lore of the DA world, past what was possible solely in Awakening.
This, I feel, is one of the strongest arguments for an "official" save game importer/creator. Fixing that weird gap between DA:O and DA:A.
Theoretically speaking, there should be three possibilities:
1 - YOUR Ferelden Hero does the Ultimate Sacrifice, YOUR Orlesian gets sent to Vigil's Keep.
2 - YOUR Ferelden Hero wanders off, YOUR Orlesian gets sent to Vigil's Keep.
3 - YOUR Ferelden Hero gets sent to Vigil's Keep.
However, in the current setup, there's only two options:
1 - YOUR Ferelden Hero gets sent to Vigil's Keep, even if they're dead.
2 - DEFAULT Ferelden Hero does the Ultimate Sacrifice, YOUR Orlesian gets sent to Vigil's Keep.
Neither of those are good. My system would fix that.
And that is why Bioware needs to look at this idea and really think hard about implementing it. I would even be willng to pay them (within reason) for this feature.

BioWare should hire Maclimes. He has an intelligent, charming forum presence, he has good ideas, and he has a sexy avatar. Intended in the most innocent, non-creepy way, of course.
Well, I don't know about my forum presence. I've recieved my share of (well-deserved) temp bans.
Of course, the avatar IS dead sexy.

I like it. A sort of "pre-release bundle".

"We already thought of this, but we have no intention of doing it."
-OR-
"We already thought of this, and plan to do it, but don't want to promise anything in case we don't deliver."
That sound about right?

I don't like the idea of it as a book because I think it will take too many resources away from other more important things in the new game; however, some type of list or small program that allows for us to go through a checklist to verify or change the markers. I know many people have mentioned nolonger having saves so this would be a very helpful tool.
Yeah, it doesn't have to be super fancy if that's a deal breaker. If Bioware/EA said "We can only do the save game editor if it's simple text", heck, I'll take what I can get. But I don't think it would be overly resource-intensive to pretty it up a bit.

And I hope that, if this is done, it's made available on xbox live and PSN as well. Us console gamers want the chance to have our perfect Ultimate Sacrifice saves, too. And I'm surprised this wasn't done or suggested before Dragon Age 2, honestly.

You definitely have my full support, OP.
Bioware, please bring this idea to life. I would even pay for it if I had to.

I hope when they make this (I'm an eternal optimist), they make it very detailed. I'd like to fix things that were glitched (like Jowan's mission), and decide his fate. Plus, I like the idea of it telling the story as you make the decisions. When I go home from a Gamestop midnight release, with my gamergrub and whatever I can get my hands on to keep me up for an extended period of time. I would love to set up the story while some narrator tells me a recap. God! I'm having a hot-flash thinking about it.
It would be kinda cool if the whole thing was narrated by the master storyteller himself, Varric Tethras.

Honestly, I would just prefer Bioware to fix the import flag bugs from DAO/A/2. We already have a system for making all of these choices, the game itself, as long as those choices and flags are marked accurately, then that is good enough for me.

I think this would be a nice idea, but I think ME: Genesis is a good example of how abbreviated and incomplete something like this might look. I don't want just the core choices, I want every single choice. Every NPC that can live or die, I want to be able to control all of that. Anything less than that and I will just continue playing DAO/A/2 through despite it being a hundred+ hour endeavor.

As has been mentioned, there are a number of other reasons than just fixing the bugs.
* Different systems. Some people played DA:O on PC, and DA2 on PS3, and want to bring it together.
* Lost saves. Had to reformat my system, forgot to back up DA saves. Ooops.
* New players: It would give new players an entry point into the series, without being intimidated by the "3" in the title.

That is all well and good, but I don't expect any digital book, comic or anything short of a full file editor to be able to encompass each and every possible choice across 2 full games, an expansion pack and multiple DLC packs. If they can come up with something this specific, I am all for it, but that doesn't seem very likely to me.
Also, when the BSN first opened, I remember it being said that all the choices from DAO saves would be recorded here on the site. I know that they are in fact recorded, but I wonder if that data from the BSN could be used as a way to import save data into future titles. I don't think this feature exists for DA2 though. Not sure about Awakening or DLC.

It doesn't work right for DA:O, either. I have several characters who just never uploaded, for some inexplicable reason. Played for months, connected to the Bioware servers, and it never actually updated my characters. Some are stuck in the past, some just don't exist. If that's the source for our salvation, we are right and truly screwed.
