People who want Cullen back, I have a mental exercise for you.

Think of all the characters that first appeared in DA:O or DA:A, and then reappeared in DA2. How many of them met your expectations? How many looked accurate to their original appearance? How many behaved in a way that was consistent with your original impression of them?

Now, ask yourself: How likely is it that Cullen's appearance in DA3 will actually match what you expect of him?

I leave you with this: Be careful what you wish for.

Good point. :D

I wanted a romancable Anders....and all I got was a headache, the sinking feeling he loves My Chemical Romance now, and a blown-up Chantry :pinched:

That's charcter development for you.  Sometimes characters turn into people you don't like.

.....but, but we don't have to LIKE it :crying:

At least his development makes perfect sense, and was (imo) done really well. Merrill's was just annoying (to me).

Lol. That would be exceptionally cruel to the Cullen fans, even for the DA writers.  =]

I look at it like this: Cullen is the continuity of the mage-Templar conflict for the series, at this point. He makes a perfect companion because your new PC wasn't there. Cullen can tell him all about the psycho mages and the abusive Templars and how things got to such a pretty pass in the first place. How BioWare handles that will determine what character development he's actually been given.

I'd like to believe that they meant him to be growing as a person at the end of DA2, being shoved with both hands out of his comfy, me-good, mage-bad little rut when Meredith finally goes from irrational to bat-shyte crazy. Ruts can be really hard to get out of, if you've been in them for most of your life. I'm curious to see if they let Cullen out of his.

I think the reason why people like seeing Cullen is that he represents the evolving nature of how mages are treated.  In DAO in the mage origin, he treated mages like his friends to protect and didn't see the danger in them.  Due to the events in the mage tower in DAO he became an extremist thinking that all mages are a danger and was close to Meredith's level of paranoia and ways of dealing with mages.

I think DA3 will show a more moderate seasoned Cullen who could be a good leader for the templars if it comes down to it.

-most of his facial features are in the right place
-he is your knight in shining armor at the end of DA2 no matter what choices you make

That is why all women love him, no exceptions.

Well, as a man I like the idea of him being a companion in DAIII simply because, despite being a minor character, he has shown more character development than some of the main or larger characters in the games. He is interesting, that's it.

If tears fuel their writing that alone would give them enough to write Dragon Age 4.

That women are shallow? Well yea... it's a pretty basic joke, I guess it would see a lot of repetition. And you're all no fun.

No demand from me. Tbh, I think cullen's a loser. The guy is prone to emotional instability and he's had the same job going into 3 games now. That's just a leech of a man not going anywhere, waiting to ride to the high life on my skirt tails.

There are better male voices working regularly for BW, such as Steven Blum, Simon Templeman and Robin Sachs.

That's true for most characters.

How is he a knight in shining armor? He just have enough sense to not try and fight Hawke & co.. It's not like he actually helped you or anything. I don't remember a Templar fighting at my side when I chose to defend the Mages in DA2's ending.

He stands with you against Meridith, and that does occur even if you defended the mages. In all seriousness that does ingratiate himself on most players probably, regardless of gender or sexual attraction, except for some who just really don't like him for other reasons, such as being pro-mage fanatics and seeing something he said one time as being sufficiently anti-mage as to warrant his death.

Haha! He's just smart enough to not side with the loosing side. Not after my Hawke, Merrill, Anders & Varric crushed most of Meredith's Templars like ants. He's just sane enough (unlike Meredith) to imagine how his handsome face will look like after being burnt by a Firestorm, and he doesn't like that image.

I suspect that if he knew what Meredith can do with her lyrium sword, he would have taken a different side.

I'm bisexual and not a pro-mage fanatic. I still find Cullen unbelievably dull and largely irrelevant.

I don't know, it's more like he never actually said anything fun or interesting, and his DA2 mage ending flip was rather tropish and insufficient to raise any sort of interest

Exactly. He bores me out of my mind. If I have to endure the entire DA3 with him as companion BW better retcon his character into something more interesting. I'm hopeful - after all BW is good at retcons.
