What? He's bland and ignorant! If they put him back in the game I want to see some character development, he made no impression on me what so ever more than not getting that Hawk was a mage all along!

He's got a deep enough history/back-story to make him intriguing, but he's a blank enough slate to do anything with him. Plus, the poor guy has been stuck as an NPC for two games, I'd like to see him in a companion role.

What Lola said. He's had some rather interesting character development ticking along in the background for two games now, it would be really awesome if that turned out to be buildup for a moment in the spotlight.

So the women here are in love with the voice actor & not so much the character?

LOL

Want some toast to go with all that jelly?

I don't know why guys feel threatened by pixels. They're going to have to include male NPCs. Some of them will be attractive. They are also going to include female NPCs. Some of them will also be attractive. Why is this even a subject for debate?

Does my comment really come off as me being insecure? I'm just interested in this hype that I've failed to realize for awhile. The fangirls are in great numbers that I took notice.

Considering how extreme he can be on Mages, girls still love him and want him. Why is this?

He's not worse than Fenris.  I don't *demand* Cullen, I just think he'd be a good choice due to his involvement with the story thus far as a consistently minor character who may have some interesting things going on in his head.  He's kinda cute.  However, if we have a kossith romance option Cullen's probably getting left in the dust, no offense ot him.

Granted, I may hate the kossith if we actually get one.  So who knows.

Well, he is only an NPC lol, but I would presume more character development would be a given if he is a companion.

I am abit indifferent to the fellow. I wouldn`t mind learning more about the character, though.

I think that should definitely be an option. I'd like the option to kill of any/all of the companions if we want to. Plus, it's a win-win situation because those who like him get to keep him, and those who hate him can kill him off.

Where's RinjiRenee? She was just complaining yesterday that nobody ever asked for the option to kill male NPCs.

I'm the wrong person to ask about that, though. I think all NPCs should be killable (if their plotlines demand it).

I think the OP knew perfectly well how much demand there is for Cullen and started this thread to give us a chance to prove it.

I like him well enough and can see his potential, but I'm indifferent to his status as a potential companion.

The character Cullen is extremely dry, one dimensional and overrated. He is popular because of the huge number of female fans he has. He is eye candy in templar armor, nothing more. Cullen is about as interesting as a cardboard box. It's laughable, because how often do women throw it in men's faces about how shallow we are because we place too much emphasis on how physically attractive someone is. Lol.

The VAST majority of female post I've seen asking or demanding Cullen be in DA3 say nothing about his character depth, his importance to the lore or story, or the richness of his dialog. It's always, "OMG, he is sooo cute and shy wen you first see him in da mage tower. mayke him a LI, blah blah blah..." followed by a number of happy faces and hearts. I'm not hating, just calling it how I see it, I've stepped in puddles that are less shallow then some posters on here who demand Cullen simply because he looks good. Cullen's perfect parallel is Diana Allers, except she wasn't as well recieved. (And Cullen's voice actor is LEAGUES better than Chobot...but then again who isn't better than her?) Exact same concept though.

Cullen has as much future potential as Sebastian Vael (which is to say a lot, given Sebastian's open ended Starkhaven plot and the character evolution that undoubtedly would follow Elthina's death, it's a huge compliment to Cullen's current position within Dragon Age)

I think the comparison actually serves to prove that less can be more for fan bases - Sebastian showed us enough to get a lot of people to hate his hypocritical nature and Cullen, who showed us significantly less, revealed just enough to get everyone excited about his inevitable return (I think Cullen's shy demeanor in Origins actually helped with this, at least in relation to the lady players).

So at the end of the day it's probably a mix of character potential and Player hype.

Editting for clarification here - I'm using Sebastian's potential as a character as a comparison marker for Cullen's potential, because I honestly believe Sebastian's character potential is the highest of any character from Dragon Age 2. It's a compliment to Cullen, ladies and gents, please try not to kill me for it.

It also helps the comparison that Sebastian is so widely hated a character that, despite his potential, he's regularly put down as a "Never want to see again". While Cullen, who didn't show us a great deal of personality, had so much left open to the imagination of the Players, that they began to fill in the blanks of the potential without the influence of developers.

If any of this makes sense - Well done.
If it doesn't make any sense - I'm sorry.

Of course - I'm not a Cullen fan girl, and I would never attempt to speak for them. This is entirely my own opinion and I am in no way trying to impose it on anybody else.

There is just something peculiar about a shy stutter templar. It's pretty adorable. I understand why he did what he did in Origins. His friends were killed and some were even turned into abominations. He just had a bit of a breakdown. Regarding the ending slide, a lot of what were said in the endings are mostly just rumors. We don't know if he actually ruled the circle with an iron fist if he got into power. In Dragon Age 2, we learn that he defended some of the mages and even stand against Meredith. He's not a tool like Fenris who just blames mages for everything. Cullen defends the weak regardless of their background. He doesn't hold all mages responsible for the chantry being blown up. During the whole crisis, he was the most level-headed templar. His character is actually very developed if you look closely into it. I hope we get to explore him more in Dragon Age.
