oh god please no!!! not Orlesian!! Anything but that!!!!

But seriously I think I would get annoyed with my character having a french accent after 60+ hours, it would be cool at first tho

I like the idea of playing a protagonist that isn't from Ferelden, and I certainly wouldn't mind if the character had a French accent.

An Antivan protagonist in Orlais would be cool.

i'm actually cool with the concept of an orlesian protagonist. it was kind of interesting to do the orlesian Warden in DAA for that reason, actually. (though a lot of that was more about culture clash, and i doubt we'll get that same feel here) and the accent thing...well, i think it's been pretty well covered, so i won't say more than it just needs to sound natural. unless its the voice of a nonsympathetic villain. then it can sound cheesy, and i'll feel doubly good about killing them. :)

Bioware seriously made a mistake with casting their Orlesian's for the most part in Origins or DA2.

Though how hard is it to find someone with a real accent?

Not that hard. All they need to do is visit that particular country's local news stations if they're that short on VAs.

If so, I'm skipping DA3.
That god awful french accent is bad enough coming from other characters. Don't think I can handle it coming from the star of the game.

What is the DA equivalent of a Russian accent?

I feel a hard line, ruthless Inquisitor would benefit from a Russian accent.

I think it would be interesting to have an Orlesian lead.

I just don't understand the problem people on this board seem to have with french accents -- it isn't like a lead character would be given an exaggerated/fake accent like Isolde or the de Launcets.

Yeah people really need to think about this clearly, i mean really, like a forced english or spanish accent is any better, if it's done right its done right its done right, if not then it doesn't have anything to do with it being a french accent, it just wasn't done well.

I seem to recall that none the Orlesians in Awakening had french accents.

The wardens and their support staff were more or less English or Canadian/American and the Baroness was sort of a Russian/German.

Hawke didn't have a canon age.

False.

According to Gamlen, Leandra left with Malcolm 25 years ago and Malcolm states that Leandra was pregnant when they left.

It's silly that Bioware kept this information relatively hidden.

Do we have a date regarding Andraste's birth or death? I've searched for info on her but I can only get a very rough time frame.

It seems likely, but it's possible you're not.

Maybe it'll do something similar with what they did with Hawke. A character who was originally from the setting of the last game fleeing an event that happened in that game.
Perhaps this time we'll get a resident of Kirkwall who was forced to flee during the Qunari Invasion or battle during The Right of Anullment.

I wouldn't mind an Orlesian character though. I'd likely end up making a female Inquistor though. :P

I do love Riordan's voice, but he may sound a bit too old for the protagonist. Still, he's a good example that an orlesian accent doesn't always means comic relief.

Who says the protagonist has to be young, though? Might be fun playing someone in their 40s, for a change.

I wouldn't want to play as someone nearing the hill, also the RPG character would be extremely established by the age of 40... while playing as younger characters allows you to control how they rise to power.

I hope so. It would make a refreshing change from a Fereldan hero. I don't mind the accents at all, in fact most French accents are quite pleasant to the ear. Just so long as they do not sound like Isolde, Marjolaine or Dulci.

I wouldn't mind at all. In fact, I think it would be fine to have a protagonist fit the locale. Unless of course they are trying to make us approach Orlais as a fish out of water, in which case making the protagonist local would be a bad idea.

Just have Nolan North voice the Orlesian protagonist. I'm sure he has a perfect French accent that we've just heard nothing of or was so perfectly nested no one ever realized it was Nolan North.
