oh, I do wish a spec like Templar, or Blood Mage, or Spirit Healer, whatever, was actually something you could choose at the outset.

would certainly make it more meaningful than just some spec you learn during the course of the story.

like, why can't I start the game as a Templar? Then that actually becomes part of my character's background and people will acknowledge me as such.

same if my mage was a Spirit Healer or Blood Mage or Arcane Warrior/Battlemage.

I do wish those were actually part of our character's background.

besides, lorewise, or from a "realistic pov," those specs seem to be things you would need years and years to learn. not something you just become overnight or learn by reading a manual/tome.

I actually wonder about the elven race choice. Whether they'll be Dalish or City. Assuming there aren't two options.

I'm hoping for a CE, or barring that, a Dalish that can dislike the Dalish.

I don't know where I sit with that. I can only hope you might have a choice there.

Lucky you. I felt like my FemHawke was Bioware's character more than she was mine.

Hence me disregarding her as important and just focusing on The Warden as the only playable DA hero of significance.

So far.

The Inquisitor could change that and be up there with The Warden.

I'll see.

Thinking about it, it might be posible that I take a restrictive canon as a sort of challenge, to sqeeze my own headcanon in there.

Based on the trailer, my guess is that the Elf option is Dalish. But we'll see. It's very rare to have someone like me that's a big fan of elves but anti-Dalish.

What part of the trailer led you to that conclusion? I only ask because I came to the opposite conclusion based on the elusiveness and reclusiveness of the Dalish.

I'm not gonna make assumptions like that this early.

So much is to be done.

I would like to be a human male. Maybe a mage? I like doing one of every class, but the mage just seems like a good class for this game. IF it's like the DAII mages anyway. DA:O, forget it.

If it's not the style of the DAII mages, I'll pick a warrior. Not a DAII warrior though. And Origins one. Didn't like him in DAII.

As for appearance, I always make them look like their siblings or parents. Cousland looked like Fergus with black hair. Hawke looked like an older Carver.

Are we gonna know what our family looked like this time though?

We might just be alone in all this.

Well, see, that works out really well for me, because both Fergus AND Carver looked like variations of characters I would make myself. Like, I made my Hawke and my Cousland look like their siblings before I knew what their siblings even looked like.

I've just been really lucky like that. If I start to question it, it wont work anymore.

But if I'm completely alone, I guess it wont matter what kind of character I make... I never do anything over-the-top looking. I like my characters to look like they belong in the world. So he'll probably be something really close to the default Hawke?

I love default Hawke in the CG trailer for DAII, because that is EXACTLY the kind of character I make in games. The actual in-game Hawke looked different, but that CG Hawke was like, Logan Cloud's dream of a video game protagonist.

And not just my dream either. Look at The Last of Us. Main male character looks an awful lot like that too.

Even my characters in Fallout 3, NV, and in Skyrim looked like that.

So... heh, rambling. I guess I'd do a grizzled looking character with a beard and unkempt black hair. Pale skin really sets off the whole thing too. Looks great with that beard/hair combo.

Yeah, Hawke looked like the average generic hero. Not saying its a bad thing.

It's supposed to be generic though, y'know? Like, he's supposed to look like an average guy who's just... tired. Run-down. I really like seeing characters who stand out in the most subtle of ways, but I also love characters who blend right in, and look like average people who've been thrust into something that they didn't ask for.

Again, I'll use The Last of Us as a reference. Joel (that was his name, right? I haven't played it yet, just watched the opening.) looks like an average guy in the beginning. After stuff goes down, he's got his beard, and his hair is unkempt, and he looks old, and tired, and just...

Man, characters are the story for me. They make the whole thing alive. There's so much art in the subtle things in a seemingly generic character. Like, why is he so tired looking, when he's so young? Why has he let himself get to a state where he just doesn't give a sh*t anymore? What's his story? It's all that stuff that I absolutely LOVE paying attention to. I like to write my own stories, and that's my favorite part. It's my main strength. The characters.

I'm a bit curious, why do you dislike Dalish? Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean anything offensive, just a bit curious lol I'm not so overly fond of Dalish myself, but I don't really dislike them either lol They seems ok to me, a bit boring though, but not so bad that I would dislike them. I just found City Elf and their drive for freedom more interesting.

Anyway, I played every races and origins in DA:O, so I think I will pretty much do the same with DA:I. Right now, I assume they will let us play Human, elf, and Dwarf, so my characters will be an elf mage, a Dwarf warrior (two hand), human warrior (sword and shield), Elf Rogue (archer) and Human rogue (melee) lol If DA:I is good, I might finish that list xD

Female, dwarf, warrior. I'll pretend I won't, that I'll resist the urge. I'll fail. She'll even be a tank.

My first character is ALWAYS a tank.

Human, Male, Warrior for two reasons.

1. Based on what we know warrior class seems to fit the story best (imo)
2. I like the idea of an Inquisitor, who is basically a male version of Cass with more of a lighter/snarky side to him. Probably romance if possible.

Honestly, I always start as a male protagonist. This time around I may play as a female lead, maybe elven warrior or mage.

I would like backgrounds to replace classes, so instead of a meaningles warrior/rogue/mage(mage is less meaningless but you get what I mean) we could maybe have templar/hunter/apostate or something like that. We could still be a anty-templar templar for example, kind of like that redhead guy in DA2.

Just an idea, no need to attack me for it.

As far as what I've understood from various dev comments, the Inquisitor's background will, to an extent, be determined by a combination of race and class.

Sort of like in Origins, where if you chose mage, you'd be forced to play as a mage from the Circle in Ferelden.

Me, I never know which class I'll play until I get my hands on the game, much less which race. I usually start with either warrior or mage though. As far as gender goes, most of my characters, including my first one, will most likely be female, as usual.

Female mage, for sure. I'm a bit more ambivalent about the race of my Inquisitor - if something interesting happends in the Masked Empire concerning elves I might play as one, but otherwise I think I'll play as human.

2nd playthrough will be female dwarf rogue though, particularly if the dwarven option has castless background. The dwarven commoner origin is one of my favourite origins.

Not the OP (obviously), but the Dalish can be very... sanctimonious, particularly towards city elves. Not all of them (Zathrians' clan adopts Wynne's apprentice, Warden's/Merrill's clan welcomes Feynriel etc.) but then again they also call non-Dalish elves "flat-ears". Even Merrill talks about the Dalish like they're the "better" elves: her party banter with Fenris in Act 1 is so condesending that when Fenris snaps at her about it, I can't even feel sorry for her, and then in Act 3 you can tell her to use her time helping the Alienage elves she's like "well, yes - I've lived here for 6 years and haven't even thought about it!" and then she makes a rather introspective comment about how the Dalish haven't even tried to help the Alienage elves even though the Dalish are supposed to be all about elven rights and independence.
