I'll probably start out with a female dwarf rouge and the move on to a f/m Qun mage just to shake it up a little.(usually play as a dwarf or an elf if given the choice)
What race, gender, appearance, and class of character do you plan to play in DA:I?

I have three worldstates I've been building since Origins, one for each class. I'll probably mess around a lot with the various races and classes before I find something that sticks, but at the moment human mage, elf rogue and qunari warrior seem likely.
If the models that were shown to us of the various Inquisitors are the "default" or "iconic" looks, I'm really excited. All of them looked amazing, though the human male needs a braid somewhere to really fit in.
I'm hopeful that Bioware will give us the option to edit the defaults, even if it's only things like skin tone and hair/eye color.

I've actually become rather anti-dalish myself thanks to DA2's terrible portrayal of them. Well, to be more precise, I've become anti-Sabrae (sp?) because, while they hadn't necessarily been complete d*cks to Duncan in DAO due to him being a Warden, they behaved like complete A-holes in DA2. Especially when the other Dalish clan in DAO were much more civil by comparison. They were handled very poorly in DA2 as far as I'm concerned. Racial tensions are one thing, behaving like bigoted jerks is something else entirely.
I'm certainly hoping for more nuanced portrayals of the Dalish in Inquisition, especially given how the player can be Dalish with the elven option. There's been quite a few negative portrayals of the People, despite the lore and WoG making it clear that the clans are quite distinct from one another.

I want more positivity for elves, at least in how they're depicted. Not sunshine and rainbows, just a little more than we have already.
DA2 didn't do wonders for them. Given we can play as elves now, I hope they get some love, especially since we get to visit The Dales.

A proud Dalish Mage. And if what I hear is true, I won't have to mod the game to be one this time around! Yay!
I'll probably be a healer who uses blood magic to cast the spells, as I have in the past. I really enjoy that playstyle, and my character's views are very similar to Merrill's in roleplay.
My second character will be a Dwarf female Rogue, using a bow. I just love playing as one - it feels really different, and unique.

Have to agree. There is something I find particularly intriguing with a Qunari Warrior / Rogue looming over other characters / nations / factions with his height and status as the leader of a powerful organizations and possibly shaping a new social order into Thedas, bringing stability and peace and one that isn't the Qun.
Maybe because i see an inquisitor as an imposing figure...and i can't imagine a better race ![]()

Human Male Warrior Inquisitor, very loosely based (personality only) on Stannis Baratheon. Lawful Neutral, basically.

Not the OP (obviously), but the Dalish can be very... sanctimonious, particularly towards city elves. Not all of them (Zathrians' clan adopts Wynne's apprentice, Warden's/Merrill's clan welcomes Feynriel etc.) but then again they also call non-Dalish elves "flat-ears".
Some of the Alienage elves also use the term "flat ears", for those who left the Alienage, and some of them speak about the Dalish in derogatory terms, including referring to them as savages. It goes both ways. It's certainly an issue that might come up for an elven Inquisitor.
Even Merrill talks about the Dalish like they're the "better" elves: her party banter with Fenris in Act 1 is so condesending that when Fenris snaps at her about it, I can't even feel sorry for her, and then in Act 3 you can tell her to use her time helping the Alienage elves she's like "well, yes - I've lived here for 6 years and haven't even thought about it!" and then she makes a rather introspective comment about how the Dalish haven't even tried to help the Alienage elves even though the Dalish are supposed to be all about elven rights and independence.
Merrill doesn't talk about the Dalish as though they're "better elves", Fenris simply takes every single thing she says in the worst possible way, and treats her pretty horribly for several years when she initially tried to be friends. For all the people in this thread who think the worst about all the Dalish because of a few bad apples, Merrill is actually a prime example of a Dalish elf who cares about the Alienage elves and humans. This is a society of people who signed a treaty with the Wardens to aid humanity during the Blight, despite having lost everything to Orlais and the Chantry in the fall of the Dales, and who raised the abandoned human infant Aveline as one of their own.
Also, that dialogue in Act III is contradicted by the friendships and relationships she's forged in the Kirkwall Alienage, as we hear in the casual dialogue, including her familiarity with Philomela and Nyssa (a friend who she reassures when Hawke approaches her about Huon).
As for the Dalish clans, they aren't in a position to help the Alienage elves, given how their culture and religion is criminalized by Chantry law; it's why the clans are nomadic and pursued by templars. That may change in Inquisition with an elven protagonist, of course, and I'm hopeful this is the case, since the Dales will be visited. Given the abundant focus on the human perspectives in Dragon Age II, it would be nice to see some focus given to the plight of the elves in the Alienages and among the clans. It would be a shame if the elven perspectives were marginalized as a 'B' plot in the human civil war transpiring in Orlais.

I still can't decide if I'm going dwarf or qunari first. But I do know that the first time I play as a mage will be as a qunari or an elf.

Ever go to an all you can eat buffet and find yourself so taken aback by all the options that you have to stop, pause, and think for a moment about what you want to eat first?
I'll probably do a playthrough as each race once. I was thinking about being a female elf mage and praying the grey warden guy was romancable but...eh. I like the Dalish and I certainly understand why an Elf Inquisitor would be one considering how they train mages and that means their backstory would be the same with a few line changes.
So, my first playthrough is going to be either as a male dwarf warrior, a male qunari of some class, or the female elf mage listed above.

I wan to be a female elf, a mage, blood mage (i liked being one in DAII), I hope there is an option to where I can just look wild and crazy. I want to have super messy dread locks and i want to be evil......somewhat evil....an anti hero. yes that, but if i cant get that then ill just have to create her through the power of art.

DAO- DC rogue
DA2- Female warrior (Pro-Templar)
DAI- Female dwarf rogue- (daggers, death from below lol) then Qunari- ( race stats may influence my decision, but most likely a mage)

I am split between Elf Male Mage and Qunari Male Mage.
In DA:O my warden and main char was a fabulous blonde elf mage, a total badass that went Arcane Warrior and bashed faces in.
However, I absolutely hate the way they made elves look in DA2. If they look the same, I'm going Qunari.

Sorry to join in on your conversation, but I'm a Pro-Templar, and I aim to be
A Qunari Male Mage. Ahum, yes, you read that correct.

Really having a hard time choosing between a dwarf or Qunari for my first run through (love both races so much), but at the moment this is probably what I will be doing:
1st playthrough will be a Qunari male rogue
2nd playthrough will be a dwarf male warrior
3rd playthrough will be a human female mage
4th playthrough will be a Qunari female warrior

Lately I'm leaning towards Qunari for my first playthrough. Female and mage was already decided.
This would leave a female elf rogue for my second playthrough and maybe even a female warrior dwarf for a third run.
