Rogue: Grabs the enemy, turns them around so they're facing the other enemies, and slits their throat
Archer: Fires an automatic critical hit at the eye of the enemy, which you can see protruding
S&S: Dismemberment of a limb or decapitation. Maybe another one where you slam the shield into their heads?
Mage: Dependant on the element of the staff: Immolation, Electrocution, Poison, Freezing, GoW3 Hades style soul steal (for spirit staves)
2H: Improve a few of the Origins animations. One that comes to mind is Sten's where he turns around and stabs the enemy through the stomach with Asala.

I like the way you think. Especially a fnishing move for an archer, that would be great.

The finishers in DA:O provide the visceral oomph, the emotional component to the combat system.

Bioware: "Nope.  Can't have anymore of that!"

I don't think the massive cinematic finishers you had in DA2 (Corypheus in particular comes to mind) are what people want. And whilst the dragon and ogre finishers in Origins were all kinds of awesome, if they are too resource intensive for their benefits, perhaps they could be ignored too. The kind of finishers I'd like to see are the smaller ones from DAO, for example there's a great one with DW characters where you stab the guy with one weapon, and behead him with the other.

When you inevitably start going on about 'visceral combat' that's what I think of, not swinging your oversized greatsword several times a second, or detonating your enemies with the stab of a dagger, or being able to jump 12 feet just because you're a rogue. The DAO finishers were tasteful additions to combat that made you think "awesome" when they happened. Hell, there were even mods to increase the chance of them happening.

I´m not sure if this is possible, but wouldn´t it be a good idea to recycle the animations already done in order to avoid having to spend money on creating new ones? One example are DAO finishing moves (or other combat animations), they are solid (and more realistic than DA2 ones), and are already done. They could be tweaked or used as base to create similar ones, instead of starting from zero or using DA2 combat animations as base.

I think if bioware can recycle textures or models (ex. golems), then animations should not be a problem, i would say that recycling an animation is a lot less noticeable than recycling the same environments (ex. DA2). I suggest that bioware recycle what was well done (and well received) in previous games, to avoid the workload of starting from scratch and freeing time to focus on other things.

Finishing moves are very, very expensive content to create - even the Legacy finishing moves, which all used existing combat animations, took a total of about three weeks to produce (and that's 12 hour days, plus weekends). If I had the choice between reflecting the player's class/weapon or reflecting their personality, I'd choose the former - it's a better application of limited resources.

Couldn't you use in-engine cutscenes as finishing moves?

For example, Mass Effect 3 has many cutscens, but most of them are rendered by the game's engine (basically, the control of the characters and camera are taken away from the player), and are much cheaper on resources. Only a few (<10% of the cutscenes) important ones are pre-rendered animations (such as the ending scenes), and yet these pre-rendered scenes take up most of ME3's installation size.

Wouldn't cheap in-engine cutscenes be possible with the Frostbite 2 Engine?

Pretty much this.

Sounds like fun to me - I would love to see comedic cut scenes for some of the epic battles :)
Eg. If playing a mage, turning the boss into a frog and then stepping on it or something...

When DAO was getting made - some of the early combat moves had players running through the Ogres legs if I recall correctly.

Would love to see more combat finishing moves - they just break up the combat from looking samey same - and honestly think they add to the cinematic appeal BioWare is pushing for in their games now anyway.

This. So much this. Another great one with DW is the single slash from shoulder to hip, alot of these finishers are really quick and don't have a slowdown effect with them, allowing you to go directly into using an ability on another opponent nearby.

I really liked the finishing move that Hawk the mage uses in the cinematic trailer promoting DA2, where 2 burning hands from the fade ripped the Qunari apart and I was really disappointed that my mage did not have a Burning Hands from the Fade move like that. Maybe I specialized in the wrong talent tree?

nice screenshots Yrkoon!

Also agree with DuskWarden's comments.

I understand the limitations on why they may not be included, but it sure would be some nice icing on the battle cake if they could.

actually, you can do the move in DA2 -  when an ogre is near death, have your mage cast crushing prison to take him out and you'll see the two arms rip apart move. (I heard it doesn't work in all the areas, I believe where I got it to work was on the wounded coast).

YES!

Those types of finishers don't remove you from combat like a full on cutscene and they don't change everything around you like the ogre-style leaps. That dw animation is one of my favorites actually, and I only really noticed it after I made a dw character.

These are exactly the finishers we were promoting earlier in the thread...
And yeah, this stuff is what I want brought back and added to DA3. I also like the high dragon finishers from DA:O, gotta have something cool when you beat a high dragon. But these kind of visceral, in the moment things are what I want to see.

I just really wanted to kill Quentin with something Kratos would have done.
