ME MP is rather unique with all the powers and weird guns. It's definately got a niche in that department and I still enjoy playing it because of this.

Not so much.:)

This and all other posts comparing Borderlands 2 to ME3 are stupid. The games provide widely divergent experiences and satisfy divergent tastes. BL2 won't kill ME3 because it's not even competing for the same niche.

That's funny. All but one of my ME3 friends is now playing BL2. That's a fairly high degree of crossover in my book. Are they exactly alike? Of course not. Both, however, offer co-op (and that's the key point) shooter/ability play.

I really don't understand how a community that spends most of its time b*tching about RNG and OP weapons is overly worried about a game where RNG and OP weapons are it's entire point.

I'm honestly surprised at how few of my FL are playing BL2.

I had more people on my FL go back to Skyrim to play as vampires or build houses.

Yup, people are on Skyrim or BL2 for me...
Few on other things...
Hardly anyone on this now...
I forsee a friends list overhaul...

Who is comparing the games? People are simply making an observation about the changing playerbase in me3. What niche is me3 in?

Join the Legion Effect. You'll be able to find enough people to play in your region everyday. Sometimes you get 1 or 2 people then open up the last spot to pugs but you'll always be able to get at least a decent gold or plat group together. Good players too.

I keep wondering about that myself. Most RPG shooters have a semi-random loot system where you get weapons of different power and rarity. ME3's MP even lets you choose what rarity you're trying for.

Borderlands 2... it's random in a bizarre way. Their weapon generator has certain characteristics that can be combined to create unique weapons, unique enough that it's actually a very, very uncommon occurance to see two of the same weapon. Most of them will still be scaled to where you're at in the game, though, and BECAUSE they're so random, you don't really hope for any one, specific thing when you open a chest or kill an enemy. You also don't have to purchase the possibility to get stuff, so the comparative value of a chest vs. a premium spectre pack is ridiculous.

Basically, I think it's because in BL2, EVERYTHING is super-random. ME3 MP, you can know what exactly you want in a pack, but you may never even see it. That's more frustrating than KNOWING that everything's a surprise.

Why is everybody assuming that the entire playerbase will play Borderlands 2 and never play ME3 again?

I've just started my second break. This one is due to BL2, first one was due to Diablo 3 (that one didn't last long). I'll be back for ops and again when new dlc hits though.

Nobody is assuming that, people are just saying how the me3 playerbase will shrink with bigger titles coming out later in the year.

Nobody's making that assumption. We've made observations; for many of us, most people on our friends lists are now playing Borderlands 2. Not sure about going back... I'll probably do at least 1 run this weekend for the op, but it's a SUPER repetitive game mode. If they release a DLC soon, I'm thinking that a lot of the playerbase will come back to at least check it out. I don't plan to abandon ME3 entirely, I just know that it isn't the thing I think to do when I turn on my xbox anymore.

The only tactical gameplay I have seen in this game are games planned out around speedruns. Most PUGs have almost no teamwork and it is everyone go and do whatever. How is the game character driven(just need clarification)?

All tactical co-op shooters can be played with bad teamwork, just like ME3 PUGs.  In bronze/silver, you're right, little to no tactics are necessary (for experienced players at least).  Gold/platinum, the team co-ordination is much more like that of a tactical shooter, and is much harder to win if each person is doing his/her own thing.

As for the other point, what I meant was that ME3 MP's strength and focus are the character/class variety.  There is no strict weapon restrictions or play styles.  Each player develops his/her own characters and team synergies.  In most other shooters, it's quickly obvious what role a particular character/class is designed to play, and there is very little room for deviation.

I haven't played BL2, but in the first one, there was a specific stat that could show up on SMGs that for me always made me kill things much faster than SMGs with a different stat. Basically anything without that stat was worthless to me and got vendored until I capped money, then it got ignored.

In other games with variable stats such as Diablo(and WoW, to some extent) people quickly figure out what the "best" stats are, and everything else becomes largely irrelevant. It becomes the same "wanting a specific thing" that ME3 has, just with stats rather than entire guns.

Though I could be wrong on Borderlands 2 since, as I just said, I haven't played it.

I don't think that is what anyone is saying.  Heck, I think Borderlands 2 will enjoy 1.5 months of popularity before the AAA+ games come in November.  What everyone is simply saying is that there are a LOT of quality games coming in the next few months, and they will keep chipping away at the ME3 base.  Then November comes and ME3 base will evaporate.  By Christmas, people will be spending their time in Halo and Black Ops MP.  I bet BL2 will also take a huge hit come Nov.  It's not an ME3 only story.

1) reading the forums
2) 90% of team arelex has moved over to it (which was the entire speed run player base basically lol)
3) my friends list

Its not an assumption. I don't have teh stats but they lost about 20-30 hours a week of my time already

I'm sure all the PS3 and PC players will be playing tons of Halo 4 =P

Stupid comment.  Hardly any PS3 players play ME3 anymore.  PC players?  Have you tried to get a random gold game that isn't FWGG lately?  Almost every PC player I know have moved onto BL2 or BF Armor.  The ones left are the ones still trying to max out their manifest (poor fellas), and they're struggling because many have moved on and they can't make enough credits now.

Bleh... I tried Borderlands 1 today, because BL2 has a certain character with the same name as me (which strangely appealed to my vanity) and I decided to play BL 1 first.

Gotta tell you, I haven't been this bored and annoyed with a game for a while. But whatever, whomever likes it will play. Gotta say though, I can still find enough lobbies just fine (even Gold, idk about platinum). However ME will die one day (and not that far away) and I don't know why we need YET another topic prophesizing the apocalypse. It's a fact of life. Then there'll be ME4. People will probably say that ME4 will then kill Diablo or Halo or whatever the latest trendy game is.

But until then, what do we say to the god of death for MP games. Not today. :P

In me3 isnt there already an assumption of what each class is supposed to do? such as adept use biotics/biotic explosions and so on. People made threads about how this class isnt a true this or that, so it would go into saying that if you are a certain class then there is a certain playstyle that should be followed for that class.

yes, but the player base of the ps3 and pc combined don't equal the xbox 360 player base if I remember the last posted numbers correctly. anyway, there are other games that will be on the ps3 and/or pc.

You can track the multiplayer base decline by credit expenditure:

1.38 trillion credits spent from March - May (about 60 days)
1.02 trillion credits spent from July - September (about 60 days)

That is a decline of 26%.
