I don't know if you've read A Storm of Swords, but I can't see anyone actually wanting a wedding with their LI to go that way. But then, some people liked the ME3 endings so who knows?
The only way you should get a Red Wedding is if you thoroughly screw up by the numbers. A true ME 2 Suicide Mission run by FailShep
Still, this strikes me as more than a bit inconsistent (I did read SoS). With any story, you could argue that no one actually wants their character die at the conclusion, but some people still find these endings more fitting (killing the Warden, for example) . I don't see why that might apply any less to the end of a romance arc than to the protagonist's final fate. There was reference to the fact that Templars/Mages might not be so accepting of a wedding as a point of conflict.

Again, failing to see the magic word "options" mentioned with a Red Wedding style wedding.
My original response was to this message:

If something like that were to appear in DA3, fine. But it should be the "bad" result of your choices. As it was in the book, actually...

All I can say (especially since this isn't really the thread for it) is that it's quite possible to portray Hawke as caring a great deal for Merrill, and trying to shield her from her reckless actions in a rivalmance. "Love the elf, hate the blood magic" if you will. No emotional abuse, not even a cross word, needed. Quite the contrary (the final choice in her Act 2 mission potentially flipping her friendship/rivalry score does wonders for this)

Really, if a wedding in DA3 was not a Red Wedding, I would feel a bit disappointed.

Many abusers claim to love their victims, and even believe it themselves. This holds nothing for me. "You cannot call me a friend and despise what I stand for," and it's even worse when it's a supposed "romance."iakus wrote...

Anyway, I think a hypothetical wedding should at least have the option of being a happier affair than the City Elf origin story...

As long as they're intergrated into the story of that character and not just a tacked on wedding quest like Skyrim. Some characters may not want to. Mages probably aren't allowed. If we ever get a Kossith, they probably don't care for it. It should take into account both yours and the LIs personality.

But if it is gender neutral and people can have M/M and F/F weddings it would be cool to see Fox News and the homophobic freaking out about the game so I guess it would be worth it

I will say that I'm fine with a wedding if it's sexuality-equal.
Why would that bother you? Not that this is impossible since the lore has yet to be established here, but the game series intentionally includes things such as fantasy bigotry. Cross racial marriages would likely be impossible in Orlais. Trying to utopianize or idealize the setting takes away from its dark fantasy nature rather than adding to it.

Given my preference and the likelihood of all LIs being bi, this'd mean that one sexuality would have a blatant example of more content in the same relationship than the other one. Hardly fair.Vandicus wrote...

I don't think gay marriage is banned in Thedas. I thought people just don't like it that much because they think it's weird since such union doesn't produce children. Besides, even if gay marriage is illegal in one place doesn't mean it's illegal in all parts of the world. Orleis could allow it for all we know.Xilizhra wrote...

Besides if being bi is common and acceptable, why would weddings be taboo ?

Not saying it would be(especially in Orlais), but having one type have a wedding scene does not necessarily mean more content. Persumably the "forbidden" or taboo practice would have its own content line following it. A human-elf marriage would be particularly fascinating in Orlais. I view the fantasy bigotry as an addition to the experience rather than taking away from it.

Stuff like a human-elf marriage or a mage marriage would be interesting contcept to explore. Provided it didn't simply end with a Red Wedding or something simiar of course (atempts to disrupt the wedding sure, but that's...pretty extreme, COmmander

I face discrimination in real life, I just want to escape to a fantasy world. It would be disheartening to see that I can't even marry my virtual LI while others can. It's not enhancing anything, for me at least. I don't think it's too much to ask to be treated as equal in the fantasy world, at least. If there were a wedding, I hope everyone could get married.Vandicus wrote...

If weddings are hetero only I would rather not have them.
One of the reasons I like Bioware games is their fair treatment of LGBT. I would hate to have in game content that perpetuates stereotype and bigotry.

That is understandable. Presumably you would not enjoy playing an elf PC because they face fantasy racism in DA. However, DA is a dark fantasy setting. Happy, everyone wins situations are supposed to be the exception rather than the norm. I would guess that you found DA2's plotline depressing. DA2 holds closer to dark fantasy than DA:O and it may be that they continue to remain close to the dark fantasy ideal in DA3. The series may end up breaking your heart as Mass Effect did for many people who were expecting a happy ending(I was expecting a far more unhappy ending, but the ending regardless was nonsensical).

I personally don't mind facing discrimination as long as you can overcome it, and possibly rub it in the faces of those who tried. I don't need to have a wedding in particular, but again, there'd just be a content imbalance if it was straight only.Vandicus wrote...
