I don't mind the romances, but they are only fluff and shouldn't detract from the other areas of game development.

You know........................................................................................

How are romances any more or less fluff than say armor/weapons, companion quests, having a dog, unlocking treasure chests with a higher cunning stat, finding that "key" to a door that you could only get if you were an elf, and so on and so forth?

I mean, isn't the game just full of "fluff" anyway? And in the midst of all that "fluffing" (lol) doesn't it just all add up to the totality of the entire GAME? lol.

It's just fluff. All fluff. Fluff, fluff, fluff. Let's just get rid of ALL the fluff in the game and we can finally play a REAL game without all that extra CRAP . :::sarcasm, sarcasm:::

(lol. That would be the most boring game in the universe.)

I remember that Bioware were against the possibility of having babies in DA2 (I don't know about weeding). We'll see what their opinion is in DA3. I don't think that we'll know anything about this topic before next year.
I would prioritize the resources on other things.

Well, whatever. This thread got real stupid, real fast. I just thought it'd be a fun quest option (wedding quest), should a player choose it. And if they don't want it, they didn't have to choose it at all.

I love how I'm constantly reminded that gaming is still a boy's club and anything that might appeal to women (but apparently doesn't appeal to men - yeah right) is just pointless. I'm so sorry that women have interests too, as well as lesbians, and gay men, and straight men, and bisexual people, transgender, those of ambiguous gender and orientation, and so on and so forth. Each of these people have access to money, gaming consoles, and your local Gamestop. Their tastes are going to be varied.

But - oh - the boy's club. That's right. For they have spoken!

People are so offended over this tiny suggestion of a wedding quest. Sad.

I'm bowing out, which is really disappointing since I created the thread to begin with....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought romances in bioware games were completely optional. The dialogue trees aren't romance exclusive, they Include romance unlike dating sims. Also Dialogue trees in and of themselves are not a aspect restricted to a certain genre.

Hence why I said "more like dating simulators". It's amazing how the comparative degree works, isn't it?

As in: Bioware games aren't dating simulators, but I don't want them to become increasingly like dating simulators through more love interests, marriage, babies etc. This seems beyond your intellect, for some reason.

Goal of marriage Is marriage a goal to complete any bioware game? Nah bruh, it's you who is arguing semantics, quite poorly I might add. You're looking for any similarities, not exclusive ones.

See above. That dating simulators can (and have) had an emphasis on marriage is the relevant point to why it might feel like a dating simulator. As I said, you're arguing semantics. If the point is that important to you, fine, marriage isn't a dating simulator mechanic.

Marriage would still suck as a game mechanic or questline. Do you feel better yet?

Furthermore, these 'romances' are just a cheap marketing ploy used by EA to attract female gamers who would otherwise play The Sims if the characters spoke a real language.

Wow! Sexism, much? I have a large group of male friends who are wholeheartedly driven by the romances in ME and Dragon Age. Yeah, only women are into that, huh? And since women like it, it must be a marketing ploy, rather than a new avenue of gaming. Anything women are interested in is bunk and stupid, right? Jeez.

Yeah, because so many women are lining up to play Witcher 2 and Dark Souls. Give me a break. Stop calling everything sexist just becuase you disagree with it.

Absolutely would want the option to marry the LI. That would be cool and it should also affect the storyline atleast at some level.

This is a bad argument. When buying a game, I do so for features I think I'll enjoy. Not choosing to have a wedding doesn't alter the fact that resources went into a feature which I would not enjoy. This applies for any individual when assessing the merits of a particular game: maximize enjoyment, minimize features which you will not enjoy/not use.

A LOT of the people posting in this thread who don't see the need for weddings have been women.

A wedding, or even more than one wedding would be very nice in DA3. And for guy appeal we could have the Zevran friendly type wedding with bloodbaths before, during and after the reception. But a very lovely wedding ceremony could be really great. Especially if the PC is conscripted into the wedding party in one as well as being one of the parties in another.

One of the drawbacks to DA2 was not being able to go to Donnic and Aveline's wedding. At least DAO there were several wedding mods.

TW2 is sexist drivel and if you disagree then you are also sexist

Dark Souls?  lol did anyone line up to play that?  hahahaha

But anyway, surprise, women are playing your vidyagames and calling you out for being a poor little persecuted sexist.

An interesting observation:

I created a thread about Horror, wondering if there could be quests with a scarier element to them. It has received mostly positive feedback, even though Dragon Age is NOT a horror based game.

I created a thread about Weddings, wondering if there could be an optional quest with a wedding attached to it, and it has received mostly negative feedback, even though Dragon Age is DEEPLY rooted in character interaction, companionship, and romance.

Hmmmmm.

You know, Dragon Age isn't a game like Skyrim which is just a glorified sim. There's a tight story and things happen relatively fast. I doubt that in a time when revolutions and wars and inquisitions are tearing Thedas apart, there's time to pick out some bloody dresses, get a hall together to get the nuptuals going.

I mean seriously, you're deluding yourself if you think there'll be some grand wedding in the middle of the game in the vein of that Alistair mod. Something like that should and probably would be saved until AFTER the quest is finished, in the form of an ending or epilogue or something.

... however, if you want to get gritty or real, a less glamorous wedding in the middle of the action would make sense. Get a teammate or local to officiate, have only companions and a couple npcs available for the most raggedy of raggedy weddings. It'd be about as glamorous as a wedding officiated by a Captain of a ship in the middle of the sea, but it'd still be a wedding.

That I can wrap my head around without thinking, "wtf is this sh!t".

EDIT: I'm not even gonna touch the "kids" part of this whole thing except to stay, definitely save that for the end.

Romance were always present in Bioware's game though. And about the LI of the most recent Bioware games (ME2, ME3 and DA2), we have the LI like Isabela (big breast) Miranda (catsuit, high heels, asshots) Jack (nearly nude),  and Ashley (bigger boobs). While I know that those aren't the defining traits of those characters, they are created in a way to appeal the male gamers.

Well, that's good but you're in the minority. I dare say that if romances were dropped entirely from BioWare games, their female fanbase would all but disappear.

Uhhh... Lady here and I don't particularly want a wedding and I especially do not want kids in the game.  Those are my woman disinterests.

Just because we both have vaginas, don't think you speak for me or our whole sex please.

Romances were implemented in BG2

Most of the romance options were for dudes

They continued to have romance options after that because they were successful

"women in minority," if that were the case, then by your logic the romance options should have stopped a long time ago because no one would be playing them

dudes play romance plots, no way?

your logic = incorrect

False equivalency.  These two suggestions are not comparable.

Furthermore, there is plenty of evidence to dispute the notion that Dragon Age does not delve into horror elements.

I heard a story from David Gaider from back in the days of BG2 when they first introduced romances. People on the boards argued against it night and day because they think it did nothing for gameplay, just that the idea plain sucked.

And look at us now. Talking about weddings and who we think we'd rather "romance".

<---male.  Doesn't mind the idea of wedding in-game.  Doesn't mind anything that fleshes out romances to be more than three conversations and an awkward love scene, in fact.

(just noticed sorry for responding late) It depends on the game's genre. Like FO:NV you can still interact with the companions and learn about their experiences without romancing them. Plus removal of those features would drastically alter gameplay, whereas romance holds little or no impact on gameplay.

It's just fluff. All fluff. Fluff, fluff, fluff. Let's just get rid of ALL the fluff in the game and we can finally play a REAL game without all that extra CRAP . :::sarcasm, sarcasm:::

Still, not having wedding(fluff) is not comparable to the removal of armor/weapons that are needed to fight.

I'm against children in game for fear they woul;d be exploited.

A wedding could make an awesome setting for actual plot and character interaction.

By way of example, in DAO one of the origins actually has a wedding. It is far and away my favourite origin. I'd rather have a wedding that ended happily, but the city elf origin very much has a wedding in it.
