And furthermore, for everyone who has their panties in a tangle over a wedding option - I SAID IT WAS AN OPTION. You know, like, you also have the option to not do it.

Not to belabor a point, but being optional doesn't really alter the issue. Sure, it's good in that a wedding wouldn't actively detract from my enjoyment. But when you consider the long term, that any resources could be used to something you want, at best it's resources which you don't see back in any form. If those wedding resources could instead go to more party dialogue or a side quest similar to Jade Empire's Imperial Arena (for example), there's no reason to support such a feature for anyone uninterested.

Ahh so the inability to share a bit of resources is what drives people to object. Mmmk.

(lol. "It's mine! All mine!")

Bioware doesn't have infinite resources or time when developing a game.(E.g. Dragon Age 2 or Mass Effect 3 to a lesser degree.)

I didn't say they did. I'm just laughing at the metaphorical "hogging" of all the legos. It's all a bit silly to worry about, really.

It is, yet that didn't stop it from being mentioned in this thread once already how the devs were 'slacking' because they didn't put a royal wedding in DAO.

I'm all for this angle, actually.  For me personally, a story's not good unless it punches me right in the feels.  Not the good feels, the bad feels.  Happy endings/stories do nothing for me.  But a story/ending that sends me through a range of emotions....rage anger despair woe happiness depression....that's a good story.  I think I might quite like a wedding that ends in death, murder, and betrayal.  AND WEIRD I'M A WOMAN AND WOULD RATHER HAVE BLOOD AND GORE THAN PUPPIES AND BUNNIES.

That's why I love you so much Bioware.  You never fail to punch me right in the feels.  You punch me real good.

I kind of hope Bioware devs read this thread and say, "To hell with it!" and throw in a "Get Married" optional side quest just to rub some people the wrong way who pick on female gamers (for some weird reason), and insist weddings etc. are fluffy, marketing ploys for women only. I also hope they work in some sarcastic character banter about men, women, and romance.

If there is a 'get married' optional side quest thrown into the game, it will be more a Red Wedding style quest than a 'happily ever after' and it won't be the tears of people picking on female gamers the writers will be feasting upon.

Hey it doesn't have to be lovey dovey. A wedding with drunken bloodshed and/or someone abandoning their betrothed at the altar? That's insanely awesome.

I think weddings are something few people would want - I'm a woman and don't want it - so would be ideal for user mod, like it was on DAO. I even downloaded the mod for my Female Noble playthrough because it was fun but can't see my other wardens wanting it. Not my Alienage Elf that had her first wedding ruined by a rape, nor my Dalish elf that doesn't believe in the Chantry, nor my Dwarf exiled princess who couldn't marry her Gorim. And Hawke and Anders live together w/o getting married just fine.

But... In honor of the real life fight for gay marriage I'd be open to the idea, if Thedas marriage was something all people in Thedas could have, including my male Warden and Zevran :P

Female City Elf had a marriage destroyed by a noble.. Having her run arround in a bloody wedding dress was very funny :P

A wedding and babies in the game and questing for it? I say: Why not, BUT...

a) if it is in the past or the background story of the character - like City Elf, Isabela

B) if it involves only Companoins/NPCs - like Aveline and Donnic, Oghren and Felsi (-->babies during the game pls only for male PC/Companoins - male Dwarven Noble's baby, Oghren's baby - I really don't want to deal with a female Companion/PC having a baby/being pregnant during the war and all (in Dragon Age), very irresponsible and stuff, you know...)

c) if it is player-initiated (the PC suggests it during the romance and the LI agrees or the LI suggests it and PC agrees) and it happens AFTER the "game finale" in the epilogue sequence - like Human Noble and Alistair/Anora, Morrigan's baby

d) if it involves only NPCs (not Companions) and is part of the main questline (like if you had to diplomaticly pursue a political marriage (or even an heir) in order to ensure lasting peace between two nations - Celene and Alistair?)

e) if it is a small ceremony (3 - 5 ppl, no extra clothes/flowers/presents/etc.) and it makes sense/is essential for the romance (like if e.g. Cullen was the type to say "let's spend a nigth together, we could die tomorrow, but hey, no lamp-post licking without the Chantry's blessing" (and then Isabela would wed them on her ship) :D)

(And you inspired with this thread another (silly) idea of mine: I'd love to see an older (fe)male character (widow(er)?) and his(her) son (daughter) - both Companions, both romanceable - and their banter about their relationship to the PC. :D)

If they made a wedding dlc for female players with Alistair, I expect they'd have at least tripled their revenue from Origins.

But, I think weddings are probably best reserved for headcanoning and mods.

Since I'm planning a real life wedding right now for myself, probably no to in-game weddings, even though the modded one was lovely. But basically weddings stress me out right now. lol. I'd worry how my PC is going to pay for it with the 20 gold she has. Anyway, by the time the game comes out I'll already be married so maybe by then I'll have gotten over it. :)

I don't mind romances at all, but the dev team is working with a new engine, and it makes me wonder if they can fully develop the game on time without it being rushed like DA2. This also makes me wonder what features they'll have time to polish/ focus on or neglect like , backgrounds, animations, dialogue, main questline, enemies, armors, companions, etc.

It's a shame because people always make the connection with A Song of Ice and Fire.

But Kill Bill had a pretty awesome "Red" wedding sequence too. Not to mention Samuel L. Jackson on piano.

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering if they'd be able to top Anders in terms of gut-punching in DA3, I was literally unable to eat for a week

... that isn't a dare, Bioware

or is it

I enjoy the romances a lot and in a game like DA2 that claimed to cover a long period marriage might have made sense. Not sure over the course of a regular time spanned game about a rushed wedding. Think it should be some way down the line generally in head canon rather than a shotgun rushed wedding tofit the game timespan.

I don't really care if there is a wedding but a walk off into the sunset bit would be fine by me. I'm the opposite of some, I'm sick of the woe will befall you no matter what you do or how heroic you are. I want a happy ending for one where I feel like a hero not some loser schlep (I'm not looking at ME3 or anything.)

I'd like the option to connect two potential LIs to each other. For example, instead of wooing Alistair or Leliana, you could help them find each other. (Sort of like Aveline and Donnic, if both were also potentially romanceable companions).

Out of all the stupid romance bull**** on this forum, this is actually a pretty good idea. At least it would allow the player to become more involved without actually becoming involved.

It's not stupid, you're just bias.

The way people go on and on about it is stupid. Marriage and having babies? It's ****ing ridiculous. It's supposed to be a video game, not a life simulator.

Furthermore, these 'romances' are just a cheap marketing ploy used by EA to attract female gamers who would otherwise play The Sims if the characters spoke a real language.

Why would EA want to take gamers away from the Sims?  EA owns the Sims, and they probably make the most money from that franchise given that the Sims Store seems to be a very popular place.

Some people think that romance adds to a story.  I certainly do.  Most great literature has love and romance, at least as a sub plot.  It gives the characters more depth.

edit: Besides, what is wrong with appealing to female gamers?  Our money spends just as well as yours, and there are an awful lot of us.  However, I know plenty of male gamers who enjoy in-game romances as well.

Yes, of course, you're right. I just get upset sometimes because it seems like people want to turn the franchise into something like The Sims or Fable, and as a result I put the blame where it didn't belong. I was wrong, and I apologize to everyone in the thread.

I'd rather have no romance at all in this case. While I loved Skyrim, that feature was totally pointless. Waste of resources.
