I find this to be a problem. I guess it can be somewhat funny, but more than anything I find it to pull me out of the experience, and break my immersion.

A couple of examples.
In Origins: "Aren't you a little short to be a soldier?"
In DA2: "I like big boats, I cannot lie"

Even though it might be funny sometimes, it is still kinda lame when the game sort of spoofs other things. It is making it self seem silly.

I thought the star wars reference was hilarious when I first heard it, or saw it I guess.

So did I. But it still broke my immersion and that's the problem.

I don't think it broke immersion, I found it funny and moved on.

I just love the references. WoW is full of it and is really fun finding them all over the world ^^

I also like those little pop-culture references, but WoW takes it too far. There's a limit to how much of that is actually amusing, and how much is just annoying weirdness.

I prefer a little humor in the game. Yes, humor referenced to the game world is better for immersion, but if the choice is no humor or slightly non immersive humor, I'll take the latter.

I like the pop culture references. The Superman and Sword in the stone references were funny. Not every one may get the Isabela reference to Sir Mix-a-Lot in which case they will think Isabela just likes big boats (which she does).

I want more references! I want the game to be full of them.

Really? You didn't think the Varric scene where he goes all Scarface was bad?

@OP - It's all about personal preference - levels of immersion are going to be different. For me, it boils down to how the nod/homage to pop culture (or what not) is injected, and how often such references occur. While there were a few humorous bits here and there in DA:O and DA2, I didn't feel that they out of place for the scene/situation in the game, or out of character (in the case of dialogue). I'll be more than happy to have that some sort of humor or tips of the hat in the next game.

There are easter eggs in almost every game

Also Varric's scarface scene was great and your opinion is invalid

For me, when easter eggs and pop culture references are in things like codex entries and item descriptions, they work the best. Because clicking on them and reading them are optional and non-intrusive.

I love the little things. Half of the time I don't even notice though. (rock dumb with small stuff.)

But I won't be satisfied unless they put a NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION joke there somewhere. It's obvious but dangit it'd be hiarious!
