Ati display driver crashing every 5~10 sec!!!

Windows 7 Ultimate
4 Gb RAM
600 W PSU
ATI HD5750
Catalyst 9.12 + Hotfix patch
I was originally using HD4870 on Catalyst 9.10 and it only crashed every 20~30 min of gameplay, which is bearable but frustrating.
Originally I tot that my 4870 is dying (it is giving my problems) and so I went and get a 5750. And now things are even worst! It is crashing like every 5~10 sec!!!!! Even after I updated my catalyst to 9.12!!
I have monitored both my cpu and gpu temp, and they are in the 40~60 degree C range, which definitely is not overheating.
So WTF? Now I can't play at all cuz it is freezing every few steps!!! Anyone encounter such problem before? Any solution??
I have rolled back my catalyst to 9.10, 9.11 but it doesn't help either!!! I tried putting the affinity to single core, and it doesn't work either.
It is so frustrating!!!!!

The only thing I've seen as a repetaed answer to some problems with the Radeon 3870, is when some ATI partners (Power Color is one this does so) depart from the reference design and tech paperwork. Some versions can't run with good stability at the default core speed and / or RAM speed, and need ATI Tray Tools running to DOWNCLOCK just a little bit.

Where did you get amperage requirements to compare? It would be a good reference site if it has more than just those two.Confucius44 wrote...
The 5750 uses more power than a 4870. My guess is that you're having a power supply problem. Check your PSU. If it's 300w, then that's your problem.

I am using a 600 W psu.
And I have tried with 9.10, 9.11, 9.12.
I have done a clean uninstall + driver sweeper (safe mode) + registry cleaner for each of the catalyst version.
I even constrained DAO to run on single core only. AND it is still crashing!!
Who fault is this? ATI or DAO??
I am so super frustrated!!

Although I wanted some versification, because I am doubtful of the assertion, I should at least point out that "just any" generic power supply, without one or another quality brand name, may not be as good with its "500 watt" claims, as a good brand PSU that offers 250 actual, repeatable, continuous watts at all temperatures and under all circumstances.eterna2 wrote...

That being pointed out, the video driver doesn't stand alone. It interacts with Windows, most particularly with the Direct3D APIs, and with various applications, such as this game. You may need to reinstall Dx9 (and you must have that as well as Dx10 / Dx11, for Vista / Windows 7). If that isn't the answer, you need to reinstall DA: O.

You ignored the suggestion of reinstalling Dx9.Luger_Gore wrote...
Having the same problem, reinstalling both DA:O and the drivers solves nothing.

2 sites out of many that you can look at for info would be
http://www.xbitlabs....50_5.html#sect0
http://www.tomshardw...w-31704-15.html
16W idle and 86W under load means the 5750 can almost run fed via the 75 watt from the PCI Express slot,
which is the reason that the Powercolor Radeon HD 5750 Go Green wont need the additional 6-pin power connector
by undercuting the theoretical power consumption of the chip by about 13 percent.
as others have said just keep trying other older drivers or try the workarounds like underclocking till a new Catalyst version comes out that may fix the issue
just a thought but has anyone looked into the screen refresh rate thing that some Win7 users were having in some games as part of the issue ?

Using an OCZ StealthXStream 600W. And it is only 1+ (coming 2) year old.
I might try to install DX9 again. And maybe reinstall the chipset for my mboard too. I don't think DAO is corrupted thou. Becuz it was working fine with my old card.

hope that helps some, I know its not much a solution but at least from what I have read it allows you to play the game. I would give my first hand impression about it but I would rather wait to see if they patch the problem or at least acknowledge that there is a problem.
