I think it would be great to have interrupts like in Mass Effect but without any points attached to it. So you can just roleplay away and let your avatar just display your own reaction to certain situations.
How it works : Like Paragon/Renegade interrupts, sometimes in cutscenes special icons apear on the screen which indicate a reaction to what is happening but with different moods. Like anger, smiling, hugging, facepalming ect.
To give the feeling that the Player is not obliged to trigger the mood interupts, there could be 3 possible reactions at the same time. The 3. always picked as a default and indicated by a "..." as a nutral reaction.
a Example on a small scale:
a NPC could hand you your weapon but it slips out of his hands onto the ground...you could react with anger or smile or no reaction at all in which case you just pick the weapon up yourself.
What do you think?
Suggestion : Mood Interrupts.

You don´t want your Avatar show your reactions on screen?
why?

I loved the interrupts in ME2 so I would enjoy such an addition to the game.

It would be interesting to see how it would be implemented. There are so many instances I want to slap Mother petrice. I like real time interactions like when we punch Isabela. I would prefer not to have to click the option dialogues and just have to push one click then pow, right in the kisser.

The interrupts were awesome, but I'm not sure if they'd work as well within Dragon Age as they did in Mass Effect.

I really hope interrupts make it into DA3. They are one of my favorite new mechanics from Bioware in the past few games. I think they are a great step forward in the design of interactive dialog and cinematics and still have a lot of untapped potential.

I'm not a massive fan of interaction that requires me to guess in advance what exactly my character is actually going to do.

I'm ambivalent on this one. I can take it or leave it. If they do it right, great. If they don't, woe unto them.
Tread carefully.

Yeah, I think it would be vital to attach little to no dialoge into the interrups. And they should not be linked with a action that has consequences to it. Just a sign of approval or disapproval. So that your emotional state is matched up more closely to your avatars.
Sometimes you just want to hug someone or make a facepalm. Without real consequences resulting of this.
Thats why i called them mood interrupts. just to have the chance to show your emotions on screen.

I'd like less talking and more taking action options in general.
Like those few instances in DA 2 you could use your murder knife.
Because sometimes I just really want to give my companions a hug and sometimes they need a proper ****slap.
I just don't know if I like the action buttons. Well, I like them, yes, but I always seem to miss them. I'm just too slow for those, especially if I have to decide what to do first...>.<

The interrupts would make it a bit TOO much like Mass Effect.
Shouldn't Dragon Age try and keep it's own identity?
I dunno, the idea of interrupts in Dragon Age just rubs me the wrong way...

To quote Reg's mom (http://biowareaccord...mom.tumblr.com/), Bioware games need a hug option.
Interupts were a brilliant mechanic in Mass Effect. If they can come up with an equivalent mechanic to implement in Dragon Age 3, I say please do!

ME often gave you contextual clues as to what Shepard's actions would be, I imagine this would be very difficult to do with multiple prompts on screen at once, even with icons.

to be able to do that in party banter would be awesome

This is a valid point. I remember being pissed at myself for puching that reporter in ME2.
Still, It's a good mechanic. I think it's be even better in DA if they implement it differently. The OP had a good idea, but I think it needs to be a bit more diverse since this IS Dragon Age and not Mass Effect.

The difference between my idea and the Me interrupts is that it is more of a reaction instead of an action.
Just making your avatar make a sad face when you are sad makes for me at least all the difference.
It would deepen your connecting with your avatar and the world around you.
Also alot of thought and work would be necessery to make the icons clear in their intention.
