Hey folks,

I thought I'd try to get unbiased views from people
who have played both Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2. It may get
locked, but I need some opinions. I have never played their
predecessors, and this will be my first fps game in years.

If I want only ONE fps game, which one would you recommend? Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2 or something else?

Well it really depends what you're looking for in a game. They're both excellent games.
If you're looking for a game with a complex story as well as great team based multiplayer then it's MW2. If you're looking for solid challenging co-op action against hordes of enemies then it's L4D2.
I play both :D

I agree with the above poster.

If you want an adrenaline filled action shooter, get MW2, its a short campaign and the only real re-playability is the Multiplayer.

Left 4 Dead 2 is awesome if you have another three friends with you, tons of replayability and challenging "crescendo" events. However the AI for your partners are horrid, so make sure you have at least 2 friends with you... Get L4D2 if you plan on playing it with your friends. Or get MW2 for the short lived, yet awesome campaign and multiplayer.

I haven't played them either, but I have played their predecessors I'm in no hurry to get either, although will probably pick up both when prices fall. Left4Dead is fun but rather limited and most of the maps are poor and call of duty multiplayer is too smooth and generic. L4D2 is probably worth picking up but only after you've played killing floor (which has proper slow zombies and much better maps). Killing floor is on offer for a 17 hours more: http://store.steampowered.com/ (it's a steamworks game like L4D and you have to have steam installed to play it so you'll have to use steam even if you get the boxed version)

If you're looking for a really good fps my advice would be to wait until March after Aliens Vs. Predator 3 has been released, the first two were apparently a lot of fun in multiplayer. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 comes out as well, but it's limited to 24 players and set in the 'modern' era (so the planes suck); I'm expecting that'll mostly be good for infantry combat like BF2.
