You know, I only put the story for that character up there because of this quote:

David Gaider wrote...

For a companion, it's a possibility.

As
for a romance, I certainly hope the origin of such a request is that
there's some aspect of qunari culture which someone finds appealing in a
romance character. The alternative is too fetishistic to be appealing
to me-- that they don't really care for any aspect of personality or
temperament beyond the character being a tall, muscular woman. The idea
that such a character should exist solely to indulge such a fetish is,
in fact, exactly the sort of thing that would make a writer like myself
disinclined to ever provide the option.

David Gaider doesn't want to write a female Kossith love interest simply for the sake of pleasing somebodies personal fetish. All my posts in this thread have been aimed towards proving that there are people who are genuinely interested in the romance from a narrative perspective.

It literally took me 20 minutes to write, do a once over, and post. It clearly states in the post that I am no Dragon Age lore junky and that alot of it was probably incorrect. Also on the very next page is another post that talks about making it compatible with the lore.

Whatever, it doesn't matter. I didn't write it because I want to see that exact thing in the game; I was simply trying to prove a point. It is an example of a scenerio I would enjoy because I find the narrative to be interesting.

If you don't like it, that's fine, go write a female Kossith character that you do find interesting. I'd love to hear about her, truly.

That's what this thread is for. Trying to convince the developers that there is an interest in a Female Kossith Romance. Posting about my inability to create good placeholder names or my adherance to a lore I admit to not knowing very well, is a waste of time and forum space.

So I take it Gaider also didn't write brooding pretty-boy Fenris. Or brooding pretty-boy Anders. Or buxom promiscuous pantless pirate chick Isabela. Or naive innocent girl-next-door Merrill.

Seriously, what? I mean, I liked Merrill and Isabela and Fenris had his moments too when he wasn't hating on all mages everywhere, but let's face it, they were walking fantasies designed to please people's personal fetishes. Or is it only a fetish if it's not mainstream?

You know, those are some good points you bring up. Makes Mr.Gaider's argument look rather weak and flimsy.

It has been pretty clearly stated that Kossith are probabaly not be capable of romantic feelings like Elves, Humans, and Dwarves are.   These folks have a pretty alien mindest.

"Lithe muscular white haired male elf for LI"

"Thin somewhat unhealthy blonde male human with stubble for LI."

"Well-endowed dark-skinned female human for LI"

"Cute big-eyed elf female for LI"

When threads such as these show up, people side-eye them in much the same way this one is being side-eyed now.  Or they become such a self-sustaining force that anyone who isn't interested in joining in the lustfest simply avoid them entirely (See Cullen threads).

(Also, of those you list, Gaider only wrote Fenris)

We didn't even know who the love interests were going to be until they announced them.  Of course some characters might fit into some neat little trope (or we think they do).  But the DA2 LIs were not tailored-fitted by some people on the forums to be exactly what they wanted.

Also see what Shorts wrote.

That's what makes it interesting. They're not Salarians, they haven't gone extinct and Sten, at least, is capable of valuing the Warden's company in his own Qunari way (and also his dead fellow Qun as revealed in his Sloth-induced dream).

If even the wilfully soulless Qunari can form emotional bonds with others, those that don't follow that restrictive philosophy, like Maraas, should be able too.

It might (no, *should*) be strange and alien -unlike the relationships with Liara, Tali or Garrus- and that would make it, well, really interesting. And possibly hilarious.

I'm not sure if you're winning any points here.  So you want a romance merely for the forbidden, strange, and potentially hilarious implications?

I don't think you got my point.  The point I was trying to make is that Kossith are not CAPABLE of reciprocating romatnic attachment.  So sure, your character would develop an attraction to one.   But the Kossith would, at best, be confused by it.

Also, broken pelvises.

Forbidden? No. Strange and hilarious, certainly.

The Qunari have been distant, strange and aggressive. So far, the only part of Qunari culture we've seen is their military arm, because that's how the Qun interacts with the non-Qun world, apparently. We've seen Tal-Vashoth, but we've learned nothing about them because I don't think we ever really get to talk to any. We've spoken to Maraas and that was neat, but he was only so minor a character.

So... how to learn more of the Qunari culture and the kossith people? Yes, we could encounter yet more soldiers who are terse and cryptic and apparently aromantic, but what would that tell us? What new insights would we gain? How would that help develop the world?

A romance... or something as close to a romance as a kossith can manage, so to speak... would reveal more about their people and the way they think outside of their so far omnipresent military. It would also be a great opportunity to emphasise just how Other they are (if that's the way the writers want to take it). Elves and dwarves in Dragon Age are just humans with pointy ears and little height. The only difference there is cultural and not a particularly fundamental difference in the mode of thought.

So yes, a potential romance with a kossith would, I hope, be strange and alien. It would reveal more of the depth of the world and the people within it while at the same time leaving the kossith Other and incomprehensible. But Other and incomprehensible in a way that hasn't been shown to us before. If done right, of course.

Still, the supposed hilarity of such a situation probably stems from my own sense of humour - there's something intensely funny about the Qunari to me. They're just so serious all the time that I can't take them seriously.

EDIT:

So we are told. So we have not yet been shown.

Fact is, even Qunari soldiers like Sten develop emotional attachments to others. So much so, in fact, that he was willing to live in a dream he knew was a lie.

From what we have been shown, a relationship does not seem to be totally out of the question. It would not be easy. It would probably require a lot of work. But it would be interesting to explore.

... Can't we learn more about the Qunari without having to romance them?   I mean, we already got the sense that they think very differently, thanks to Sten.   I just don't see the need for the writers to make a potential female Qunari into a sleeping dictionary for the PC/player.  Can't you learn all those things you mentioned without romantic attachment?

True enough. It's not as though we learned anything really new about elves or Antivans or mages by sleeping around with all the DA2 companions. Frankly, you didn't get much out of it other than some neat characterisation, some roleplaying opportunities, a change of clothes and... how should I put this... some fetishy thrills?

I think we should assume by default that any potential romance with a kossith, too, will involve some neat extra characterisation and roleplaying opportunies (and fetishy thrills). The exploration of a hitherto completely obscure facet of their racial personality is an added bonus.

The romance would be about intertwining cultures coming together into something beautiful. Though I think Tal-Vashoth would be more plausible

See Gaider! Not everyone wants them because they're "tall and muscular", some just like them for the horns!

On a serious note, Mr. Gaider kept bringing up that he didn't want to write one just to write a "tall and muscular female" love interest and kept saying that like people were saying that's why they wanted one. But I don't recall reading anybody saying that's why they wanted them. People have said they found them attractive, but I don't think any of them said they found them attractive because of their height and structure.
