Yes...Both DA games don't have that many non human strong warrior-like female who is a follower & a LI. I mean we had Morrigan, Wynne & Aveline who are strong women but they are human.

Sure we have Velanna,Sigrun & Tallis but these were all not in the vanilla game. They were only in the expansions...

In light of the main character being a human, the followers' should be balanced in terms of race, gender & class... I would prefer if we don't get many human followers, maybe 1 or 2 ...

Yeah, but it's been incredibly disparate for each of the games. Every single substantial release has had 1 dwarf companion. No more, no less. (Oghren, Sigrun, and Varric).

Elves, we've had small amounts all around. One in each of Origins and Awakening, two in 2. And only a single Qunari ever.

It's always been overwelmingly stilted in the direction of Humans over all other races, and I don't like that. I want diversity, damn it! :alien:

EDIT: Actually, I forgot that Oghren was available in Awakening as well, so that one broke the mold by having TWO Dwarven companions.

Let's go by numbers, for the sake of it. Non-human to Human ratio.

Origins - 5:5 (Dog, Oghren, Shale, Sten, Zevran : Alistair, Leilana, Loghain, Morrigan, Wynne)
Awakening - 3:3 (Oghren, Sigrun, Velanna : Anders, Justice, Nathaniel)
DA2 - 3:5 (Fenris, Merril, Varric : Anders, Aveline, Bethany/Carver, Isabella, Sebastian)

Correct me on any of these numbers if I'm wrong, please, but it annoys me a lot that there have been as many of -- or more than -- humans than all the other races combined in each of the games.

Interesting observation there. I wonder if Bioware also knows we've had two dwarves companions and only one Qunari?

Three dwarf companions: Varric, Sigrun and Oghren.

Honestly, I wouldn't be completely happy if the Human:Non-Human ratio was balanced. Even then, we'd have far more humans than Elves, and far more than Dwarves, etc., etc. I'd prefer if it was an actual balance - 1 or 2 of each race that should be available, or as close to it as possible.

I know that isn't likely to happen, so I would settle for a more balanced setup either way. It would just be nice to have those extra non-human races, because they tend to have a different look on things. It makes it more interesting to have a mixed group along for the ride.

Imagining that we will have 10 companions, what about 4 humans, and 2 each of Qunari, Elves and Dwarves?

Unlikely.
If we get 10 companions, 6-7 will be human, with 1 elf, 1 dwarf, 1 qunari and maybe one supernatural companion.

Swagger, it would still bother me. It would be a better ratio than any game we've had so far, but the obvious inclination towards humans would still bother me.

@ShadyKat: Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of for Inquisition and any future games...

That would require Bioware to portray non-humans as something other than a stock race with a single view. They did a good enough job of that in DA2 with Fenris that about no one wants to talk about him as an elf because he doesn't mourn for the Dales enough.

It does kind of make sense though, since humans appear to be the most numerous race in Thedas.  If anything, my idea would skew the numbers away from a proportional representation in the name of greater diversity.  This is especially true is we'll be spending a lot of time in human kingdoms like Orlais.

The ratio of human to non-human in Dragon Age games doesn't bother me. As long as the characters mesh well with the setting and story that is being told, I'm happy.

Unless the character is a female Qunari. I'm willing to accept any story related hiccups to accommodate a hot female Qunari.

I like fightning Qunari, I find them a good antagonist personally.

It's not so much as fighting Qunari that bugged me, but it's fighting them because I Bioware didn't give me any other options.

I know what you mean bro'. Still, at the very least I hope we're given the option of a Kossith companion/potential love interest.

I like this one better, really like the coloring and warpaint. The you posted seems a little...disproportioned? Kind of small head with everything else big.

The artist who drew that one(Second one) is going to draw one for my OC :33 I'll share it when she finishes it. I love her take on the Qunari.

I really hope bioware looks at the forums and realizes how many people like the idea of diversity. Many of us want to see kossith companion like the shown in the concept art. They keep bragging about the frostbite 2 engine

I love the redesign the Qunari got in DA2 - same with the Darkspawn so I look forward to seeing them and Kossith in DA3 with the frostbite engine and agree that the Qunari are one of the more interesting races in Thedas. Wouldn't mind another one for a companion but don't think they should be romance options personally.

I know how you feel, I couldn't help the darkspawn in DAO either. It bugged the crap out of me as my Warden hated being a Warden.

Also, I thought the ratio in each of the games was fine (I didn't really think about it all that much.) That said, I'll tale any companion Bioware can write in well, regardless of race.
