Female Qunari are not soldiers.  But they can still fight. if necessary.  Tallis, for example, was part of the Ben-Hassrath.  Technically a priest, but still served as an assassin and thus, a trained fighter.

That doesn't preclude a female qunari from being a major NPC, you know. Perhaps not a companion, but easily a prominent NPC that performs an advisory or logistic role for the main character. Much as Wade, Varel, or Woolsey served in Awakening. That would be an excellent placement for a female qunari NPC, at least in my opinion.

From there, not only companions need be romanceable. In fact, romanceable NPC's who aren't companions would be a welcome change from the typical BioWare narrative boilerplate.  A qunari NPC would be fertile ground for a romance option, for how qunari view sexuality and companionship. Romance options needn't require sex scenes, or sexual activity between characters, to be valid or acceptable. It would be nice to see an exploration of platonic love in the course of an RPG for once.

platonic and love would not really go together for me (no offense to you of course) because love that is not consumated crumbles a lot more easily IMHO (because pent up sexual-frustration is very unhealthy) also i would not go into a relationship were the girl (as i am male and not homosexual - not that i am a homophobe) was not interested in me (as in: touching me, kissing me and having sex with me)...such a girl would go out the door fast (yes: i would ask her the why question first, but then, depending on the answer i would probably end the relathionship)

as for a Kossith-Female:

just make her Tal-Vashot (as in: she does not follow the Quun anymore!) - they she could lend some insight into the Quunari, but be different herself (a Warrior by trade even as "heretic"-Quunari often become mercenaries)

greetings LAX
ps: i would want this character as a companion - also i see the benefit of having non-companion romances (just not in the "kelly chambers" kind of way, as she is on the ship (thus in danger, too) but has no combat training (which is lunacy, even for cerberus, manning a warship - the Normandy SR-2 still is a warship, even if it is a cerberus vessel)...*shakes his head* - hell even steve and samantha trainor have combat training)...thus a character should have an explanation (in game) why he/she does not join you/go on missions with you...)
pps: i would love a romance with a character that has his/her own agenda and maybe is a major character (like say a high ranking grey warden or a high ranking templar or even a non-companion magister (note: i still want a magister/magistress (i would prefer a woman) companion) that is important)

A female qunari (I really hate using the word 'kossith' like that's a term we should be tossing around and not simply something mentioned in a few select places prior to now) could indeed be an interesting romance for a number of reasons.

I think the reason we use Kossith instead is because Qunari is the religion. And We've preiously said we'd LOVE to see a female qunari in the game because that would be awesome. And then Tallis came around.... a great and enjoyable character in herself, but wasn't quite what were were expecting. I really don't want to be offensive, because others have on this thread, so please don't take this in such a manner. As someone who writes in their freetime, I understand where you come from not wanting to only add in a character for people to romance.

You can still use the name Qunari if you want the character to be a follower of the Qun. If you don't want her/him to be a Qun follower, like me, then use the term Tal' Vashoth. Gaider will be able to tell the difference.

If there is going be Qunari women in the game their body should be totally modeled after Jelena Abbou.

I think you know you write pulp and porn.  I think you should be pleased to have such popularity and gather such wealth from your words.  Steven King should welcome you as a potential peer.  With time and practise?

And now we're onto patronizing BS.

Well, enjoy your argument. I've said all I care to on the subject-- I have pulp and porn to write.

Ah Gaider.. you crack me up! XD

If this female Qunari companion left the Qun, it could be an on-going plot that the PC or one of the other companions is teaching her how to fight.

All the characters become more powerful as the game progresses anyways so I don't see why it wouldn't work. She simply starts off with lower stats and has a much steeper increase then other characters.

A similar situation worked in NWN2 with Shandra Jerro, where she was a simple farmhand until the PC crossed her path. At some point she joins the party and by the end of the game she is a very capable warrior.

Posting pictures of sexy muscular women would actually support David Gaider's concern about including a female qunari LI. lol

If it's not a LI, it would be nice to have one as a companion. I'm tired of seeing the usual archetype of female rogue and mage.

I don't get Mr. Gaiders problem. A little bit of objectification is only human, there is simply nothing wrong with it, he does it without even noticing it, too because he is human (well, thats what I've been told).
Humans do that all the time, denying this is denying your own nature.

Yes, I want a Qunari LI interest because I'm a good old fashioned man who thinks they're good looking, this one reason is enough for me to justify some fan service. The whole fantasy genre is full of clichés and fan service anyway so I see no reason why this is suddenly a problem, it has been done a thousand times before.

AND, I think a romance could make an extremely interesting story only expanding and adding to the character. Bioware has excellent writers, and there is so much potential with such romance that even I - someone who is not an experienced writer by any means- can see it.

I don't think he has a problem with it per se, but he just finds it discouraging as a writer to write stuffs he perceived as fetishes. I guess a better way to put it would be that if it were to happen, it would be because it's neccessary for the story, not because people demand it.

I wasn't going to say anything about that picture; I'm glad you did, BBM :)

FYI just because women in fantasy, science fiction, video games, and comics have been fetishized in the past is not a good enough excuse to keep doing it. The excuse of "I'm a red-blood healthy male; it's natural for me" is also not enough. Maybe it is natural for a person to objectify women's bodies but it's best to just keep that to oneself, or amongst one's equally minded friends.

Pretty much this.

Admiring a woman's body is fine, but Gaider wants an actual character with a backstory and personality. Using that model's body would be great to base the character model on though.

I would love a big, muscular strong woman to romance. So far I've only been given skinny witches and rogues and I'm sick of it.

You can admire a person's attractive physique without objectifying them.  That's one of those words that gets used so much it was lost all sense of meaning.  I'll admit that the posting of the photos in question did seem to be of rather poor taste, but holding up an image of Real Person A and saying that Fictional Person B should have a similar physique is hardly objectification of either person.

Don't worry, I'm not some antifeminist troll trying to pick a fight or anything.  Feel free to correct me if I misunderstood you, or am somehow failing at my definitions.  (I'm sure you'd do so anyway, permission or no.)  :P

I wouldn't mind one for a companion, but as a LI...I guess I would have to see what happened during the game.
