So, for those who haven't read Dragon Age: Asunder, and don't want it ruined for them - get out. This isn't the thread for you.

No, I'll try and keep this short. Rhys currently carries the Spirit that kept Wynne alive all through Origins, and assumingly is what stopped her from dying if a Warden tried to kill her. Cole is an Abomination of a Mage who the Templars forgot in the Cells of the White Spire.

Now, we had Wynne in Origins. Spirit Healer kept alive by a Spirit of Compassion or whatever. Then we had Anders in Dragon Age 2 who had the Spirit of Justice/Demon of Vengeance. Both Abominations, and both changed their personality as the Spirit/Demon took more control. Rhys is essentially the same as them, and frankly I do not feel we need a -third- Abomination Mage. I'm sure you can come up with just a normal Mage companion for us instead, right? I like the idea of a Tevinter Magister who isn't evil and brooding.

Now, Cole. Just no. Never. Why would we enlist a straight up Demon? Yeah he'd be an awesome Rogue Companion, but I can't think of any realistic reason why we'd want someone who gets their jollies off just killing people to feel alive. Now, if you can sell it -REALLY- well, then I'd support it. But if not, don't bother. Keep him and Rhys as Side Characters.

EDIT: David pimp slapped my mistake!

Assuming you are referring to Rhys and in fact read the novel, you would know that's not so. Wynne passed the spirit onto Evangeline, not Rhys. This is even stated explicitly, by Evangeline.

Cole is an Abomination of a Mage who the Templars forgot in the Cells of the White Spire.

There are many theories as to what Cole really is.

Sorry, I meant Rhys, and I could of sworn it was him when I read it a few months ago. Clearly I was wrong... I totally support Evangeline as a companion though. I'd love to have a Templar who doesn't see all Mages as evil. Still not Rhys and Cole.

I got owned. :P

EDIT: Actually, assuming I'm -entirely- wrong about Cole, I can see it being a very, very interesting companion if done right but off the bit of knowledge from Asunder so far, it points to him being Demon especially with his last engagment with the Lord Seeker at the end of the book. But if it just ends up being a "Surprise! Demon!" then it'd just be bad in my eyes... unless it's about a Demon Redemption! Then maybe.... I'll shut up now.

So, abominations are OK if they're female?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know, I should have.

Don`t think Cole would fit as a companion in a game, to be honest. He can turn invisivble, so he could arguably function as the "murder knife". But in combat and such he would be like a deus ex machina, in a way. The player would be asking "why don`t we just let cole slip inside that fortress and kill the boss" Things like that would pop up all the time.

Rhys and Evangeline would work just fine, though.

I Edited my Posts after David kicked my butt.

But Evangeline I would love as a Companion, Rhys I think would be best suited as a Side Character who helps develop Evangeline. But at the same time, as I only know what I read in Asunder about him, he could be a better character then my original opinion.

I'd love to see Cole as a companion, personally. I think he's completely fascinating and worrying; I would really enjoy adding him to my party in Dragon Age 3, especially with a mage PC.

Rhys, though, while I like as a character, I feel like it'd be more interesting to meet with him as an NPC.

Just my opinion.

Ryce ?

No Evangeline is the one with the spirit. Rhys is just her lover and Wynne's son.

Cole is creepy but a lot of people seem to like the idea of him as companion.

You can't stop me. You can't fight me. You can't kill me.

Cole would be interesting and creepy at the same time.

Dragon Age 3 will have lots of combat, though. I can`t see Cole working out well in that regard.

Abit off topic: is it possible to...stuff him into a golem?

Like I said Edited into my second post, Cole would be awesome if he's done right, but if he really is just a Abomination of some form... then, it's really the same old.

I don't see the problem with having either one as companion myself.Just because they share a theme with some of the previous companions, doesn't mean their character arcs would be the same.Coles' especially, judging from the book, seems to be heading into a completely different direction than Anders'.

When you thought that the spirit that was animating Wynne had moved into Rhys, you didn't want him to be in the party because he was an abomination like Anders. When DG set the record straight, you "totally supported" Evangeline as a companion, despite the fact that the spirit had not changed.

In other words, I was having fun at your expense. It was probably unfair, but it did make me giggle.

It's perfectly OK to dislike characters for reasons other than "OMG! Abomination!!!1!" You like Evangeline better than Rhys. It happens. Personally, I don't favor one over the other. There are characters I would rather see in the game, but it wouldn't bother me if either or both of them were in.

I dunno . . . Cole seemed to have a hard time using his powers without possible consequences, especially if others were present and he had to shield them, too.

Granted, he might have changed in the interim in ways I can't really predict, but I never really saw Cole as a law or force unto himself.

Maybe it's just me?

I can see Cole working out extremely well in that regard.  But it would require DA3 be consinderably more creative with combat than DA2 was.

Why isn't Cole in the Mage class instead of Rogue?

Oh and I think Cole would be an interesting companion.

Considering some of the leaks mention subterfuge, it wouldn't be THAT out of the question for the Inquisitor to get Cole to murder someone with his skills.

I guess it's more of a fear of having another Anders story. Like, Cole comes off as once being a Mage, who is now... something else. But if it's going to be the same story as Anders, I feel the time would be better invested in a new character all together, but done right could be an amazing character that could really effect people.

I rather enjoyed Asunder. I'd be delighted to see some of those characters popping up.

I haven't read Asunder yet (Have it standing on my shelf), but from what I've read and heard about Cole so far he sounds really interesting and I would love to have him as a companion.

i know. But we would pretty much have an "invisible pshychopat" in the party. He just walks up to people and slits their throats. In-game, it would reek of a Mary Sue.

I`d vote for him being more of a camp follower, to be honest. Like Sandal.

Yeah, but Abomintions that aren't Mages are different in my eyes. She's a Templar (Warrior), so she's really more like Justice from Awakening, but without the Dead Corpse. I think writing someone who isn't as touched by the fade, and has a Spirit having a sleep over in their body would be quite an interesting design. Where as Rhys, would essentially be the same as Wynne and Anders.
