Yes, we must be prepared for all.

Schmooples was very powerful but hid it well...until it got into oggy's stash.

Cole sounds like he'd be an awesome companion to me...

Bioware needs more shades of gray in their writing. If pulled off right, he could be that character...

I care little for either of them. I just want a full-blown demon companion, not some tortured, morally conflicted, possessed mess. Just justify it by saying said demon had something to gain by following the PC.

It would be far more interesting than another Anders or Wynne situation.

i loved cole's character in the book, and i think he has a lot of potential.

especially since the change in Justice really posed a lot of lingering questions for me about what spirits, demons, and other denizens of the fade actually are. especially when i replay DAA and remember Justice as this really awesome character and get to explore the perspective of a literal outsider. i think we all forget that because both he and Anders ended up getting so screwed up and left us permanently questioning the difference between a demon and a spirit (especially once Merril threw her two coppers in on the matter).

is it possible that there is something in between? could cole be a manifestation of that? if not, is he something new entirely? asunder certainly left him up in the air on that level. also, since i'm on the topic of fade denizens in the novels...

...anyone remember katriel showing up in the fade in da: the calling? what was she again? from what i remember, everyone seemed to be confused about whether she was a spirit, a demon, a ghost, just maric having a screwed up head...

there is a lot of line-blurring that i don't think we've even brushed up against yet. and cole is a fantastic chance to explore some of it.

I'd like both Cole and Rhys as companions. I don't think we could really have Cole without Rhys considering how Cole doesn't trust anyone else and wouldn't want to leave him.

Don't make any DA novel character a companion. Fullstop.

I would prefer characters in the game especially companions wouldnt require you to read all the extended media to understand.

Cole NEEDS to be a companion. Also a LI. Also a demon. Since the confused good-guy spirit has been done and it would be real nice to see whether demon's can be "good" too. After all, they wanna be human right? That's why they possess people, it would have that opportunity with Cole if it could get over it's issues. With the tragic, perhaps misplaced LOVE of the protag of course. xp

Well with Cole it would be interesting to get a flat-out psychotic character. Everyone else had morals of sort (Well barring Morrigan but even she didn't just kill everyone for lolz) like Fenris who was all for killing mages but would whine if you killed civillians or Anders who was all for killing templars regardless and out even kill some kid if she pissed him off he would get all D: over it. Need moar loonie compainions.

As for the Abomination thing, meh it's getting boring.

I want more male mages, damnit. It's bad for my Warden 's self-esteem that his the only male mage in the series expect Anders, who's just plain crazy by the time DA2 came.

Oh and bring on Cole!

Whilst I'm interested in Cole and would like to see a bit more of him (find out what he is etc), but in a NPC role, unless BioWare changes the gameplay/Cole's ablities, as otherwise (as pointed out by Rawgrim) we'd have threads poping up like "if he can be invisable why didn't he just do X,Y and Z and save me the trouble?" blah blah blah
I suppose the quick ways of resolving thoose issues would be to ignore it (like, why didn't the Shapeshifter mages in DA:O just shift into a cat and walk out of Fort Drakon?) or everytime Cole's invisably could be used (like sneaking into a fort and killing the boss) he just haves a nervous break down and becomes usless until about 5 seconds after you've completed fort, the latter of which I'd hate.
Like others I'd had enouth of crazy companions and their fade/demon/spirit/magic infused issues (and this is coming from someone that likes all of the mage/fade/demon side of DA)

As for Rhys, ok its been a while since I've read the book, but from what I remember, he irritated me. But while I prefered Evangeline, I can just see her coming along with a boat load of (along the lines of) "I died, but I've got a spirit inside of me, so what does that make me?!" issues, which just brings me back to my last point.

Personally, in a lot of ways, whilst I want to see more of the characters we've seen before (both NPC and companions) I'd rather just a whole new set of companions to get to know.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I didn't enjoy Rhys's behavior in the book - both his flirting with Evangline in front of his not-quite-over-him ex, and his reluctance to give Cole(after he knew Cole was involved in the murders) to the authorities, either as a witness or a suspect. I believe a protagonist must be a hero or an anti-hero, not an ass. And, yep. Don't like the Golden Wynne to bits, don't like Cole, don't see anything interesting in Evangeline/Fione/Leliana. But here's hoping we'll have other, amazing characters. And we can always side with Lambert and give Cole to the templars... right? Or Flemeth. That'd teach him. :)

That might have been what irritated me, can't quite remember. But agree with everything else, apart from Leliana (don't get me wrong, before I didn't give a darn about her, but since shes started poping up everywhere even after shes been killed, shes started to interest me)

Don't know if I'd side with Lambert, but giving Cole to Flemeth on the other hand...sounds interesting...maybe having Cole isn't such a bad idea if we could give him over to Flemeth, I wonder what she'd do with him, maybe she could tell us what he is.

Sorry if this has already poped up but:
One thing I just thought of though, in reguards to Wynne, now as far as I'm aware if you killed her in DA:O she stays dead (unlike Leliana, she doesn't get mysteriously resurrected) so does that mean for some players Evangeline is already dead? as she doesn't have Wynne's spirit helper thingy to keep her alive, also wondering what that means for Rhys.

There are many theories as to what Cole really is

I have to give it to you, Mr.Gaider, you can certainly pull of a Martin when you want to! :-)

I agree with the op.

I would have to fight very very very hard not to treat Rhys and Cole as if i knew them from the book. Cole is a demon mass killer and I would want nothing to do with him. Rhys is even worse. A waffling wishy washy fellow who corrupted a loyal templar, helping her betray her comrades and the order, treated his mother like dirt and on top of it smeared her legacy by how he acted once he took over from her. Aided and abetted a serial killer and a demonologist. I'd kill Rhys on sight if i met him knowing what I know from the book.

However seeing as my character probably does not know these things I might have to force myself to put them aside if either of these two show up.

Evangeline would now be a spirit warrior right?
I want her on my team!
I'm not keen on Rhys as a companion, cameo yes.
Cole would be interesting. Hopefully find out what he is....

I think Cole would make a nice mid-boss. Cole, the Warden, Hawke, and the OGB. In a ten by ten room with a dragon turtle. Make them a mid-boss fight. It would work.

We don't know what's going on with Adrian and Rhys and they never tell us the circumstances of their 'breakup'. Adrian was lying to herself at the very least, but Rhys seems to have moved on a lot more than her. in this case, neither are mind readers, and Adrian is making a lot more assumptions. It's perfectly understandable why he would flirt in front of her in that case. He thinks they are done, and by the time they are coming back from the Keep, he's already well on his way to falling in love with Eva.

He also doesn't trust the Templars AT ALL throughout the book. If you didn't see that in the first 100 pages, you're blind. NO surprise that he wanted to deal with Cole on his own in that.

You're trying to imposse your own mindset and morality on a completely alien and somewhat unique set of circumstances. It won't work and it'll only make you frustrated.

I'm not keen on book characters as companions. I've read basically everything (3 books and the Silent Grove/ Those Who Speak comics), but I should not be "rewarded" by knowing who the heck Cole is while everyone else is like, whaaa?

Also, I'm done playing with tortured male demon/spirit things.
