The ESRB wouldn't allow that.
Why not? What they dislike most is sex and nudity. So as long as the torture doesn't involve stripping and raping I think they'll be fine with it.

The Inquisition was a terrible period in history full of horrific injustice and disgusting crimes against humanity.
With a title like "Dragon Age: Inquisition" you're opening the door to some pretty horrific things, I will be disappointed if Bioware don't explore some of the darker aspects of humanity.
Indeed. The darker aspects of humanity is what I feel a main focus of the DA series.

I have a feeling they would. There's torture scenes aplenty in SW:TOR. And that game is rated T. I have a feeling that tongue-in-cheek torture that is meant to be more humorous in nature is fine.
There are torture scenes in DA2 (Lost shipments) and ME2 (Thane's quest) too. As long as the torture is completely optional to the player, I think it's fine.

I happen to agree with him, it would help add more darkness to the atmosphere. Not necessarily in the mage vs templar sense, but in the interrogating people for information sense, much like a gang would be willing to crack some skulls to get info.
Yes, I think it'd be pretty absurd if you're only allowed to be nice and polite as an
Inquisitor (a medieval religious prosecutor), given the amount of violence Renegade Shepard (a futuristic intergalactic government agent) and Aggressive Hawke (a business person/explorer) are capable of.
