The other night I remembered reading this article: http://www.kotaku.co...ke-rpgs-better/ and it got me thinking, DA3 on the Wii U could actually be really awesome, maybe even better than the PC version (ignoring PC's better graphics and the possibility of modding).
The Wii U's gamerpad really does seem like it was made with an RPG like Dragon Age in mind. I can think of lots of ways it can be used. As the article mentions, it could make sure the main game screen is clutter free with things like health, mana and abilities being transfered to the gamerpad. You could even put dialogue options down there. You could have a minimap on the pad that shows your parties position and lets you select characters and order them around the map while still showing an over the shoulder view of what ever character you're currently playing as (I always played DA:O as an over the shoulder game). They could spice up the world by adding crafting minigames that use the pads touch screen. It'd be an awesome way to read codex entries. The codex entry appears on the gamepad screen while your character stands on the TV screen showing an animation of them reading a book. From a multiplayer perspective (I know, I know, some of you loath the idea of multiplayer) the gamepad could be used to send and recieve messages from your friends.
So, just something to think about. I know adding all those features exclusivly for the Wii U version would probably take away from development of the overall game for the PC and other console versions of the game, though maybe BioWare does have the budget and manpower that it wouldn't, but if DA3 isn't initially released on the Wii U but eventually ported over, just like ME3 being ported over, then using the gamepad in clever ways is something I hope BioWare and EA keep in mind. I'd certainly buy the game a second time for the Wii U if it used some of the features I described above.

NO, the WII U is an insult to gaming.I blame Nintendo for the state of gaming these days.

man you sound like a knob
It could work. I would really prefer if they focused on conventional input though. Porting between PC and normal consoles makes the experience worse as it is.

If it does come out for the WiiU, that would be the version I'd certainly pick it up(minus any crafting mini-games).

DA3 could be incredibly awesome on the Wii U. The maps, menus, dialogue trees, and tactical input could all be done on the gamepad, uncluttering the main world view and enhancing the tactical aspect of the gameplay significantly.
Or even beyond that, say you have minigames return; you could have a card game, where the actual minigame is on your gamepad while the main worldview is still open on the TV. Thus you could look at how the NPC was reacting, seeing if their "poker face" breaks or if they're bluffing.
The possibilities are quite vast, and I'd like to see some of them realized. Even if it means a Wii U version would come out much later than the others, It would be totally worth it.

I'm curious as to why something similar could not be achieved on PC systems with multiple monitors?

I'm not going to derail this thread by getting into it with you about whether the Wii U is a valid gaming device, but that's a rather childish reaction. The system's not even out yet, let's wait until it is before judging it. As for Nintendo being responsible for the state of gaming, what exactly is the state of gaming and how are Nintendo responsible? The rise of mobile gaming? Nintendo's always insisted that dedicated handhelds still have a place in this world, hence the 3DS. Day 1 DLC? To my knowledge, that's not something Nintendo really does. Instrusive DRM? Again, not something Nintendo does.
It's foolish to blame one company for the state gaming is in, as it is to even act like gaming is in a bad state in the first place.

I thought it *was* coming out on the WiiU? I know nothing has been totally confirmed, but I've heard many rumors that WiiU was going to be one of the many platforms for DA3.

There's no reason they couldn't, the game would simply have to be designed to support it.craigdolphin wrote...

It probably could be, but a lot of people don't have multiple monitors, while anyone with the Wii U's going to have the gamepad. Not to mention the gamepad has a touchscreen (I know there are touchscreen monitors out there, but at the moment I'd imagine not many people would have them).
