One thing that always confused me about the folks that criticized DA2 a lot of times was that the criticism was that it was different than DA:O, as though what they were really wanting was just another expansion like DA:A instead of a full blown sequel. Myself, I really enjoyed DA2 being different and I look forward to seeing the changes in III.
Back in the 90s, for me, it was Microprose. That was the company that pretty much was a guaranteed hit for me. If it had Microprose on the box, you knew it was going to be awesome. Bioware current holds that distinction for me and I see nothing that indicates that is going to change anytime soon.

The way I see it, DA:O opened the world of BioWare rpgs to me and hooked me instantly. DAII gave me hours of pleasure (and yes, it's as dirty as it sounds). Yes it was rife with problems, but so was Origins, just a different sort. The worst being the recycled areas and the enemies spawning out of mid-air, and some others, but I loved it and it was worth many many playthroughs.
So I'm looking forward to DAIII, mostly because I'm curious as to how it'll be and how it'll turn out. DAII was pretty different from Origins, both in very good and some bad ways. The evolution from II to III will be something to behold.

I'm rather optimistic towards DA3 since it seems they are taking their time and listening to feedback, but I don't expect it to surpass DA:O either. I hope being proved wrong about that once the game comes out.

Now, if we could have a DAO-like plot with DA2-like romances and companions(well, with Shale and Morrigan instead of Isabela and Merrill, but that's details), I'd call DA3 a done deal.

Me too, it's nice to see the occasional other person that didn't hate DA2 lol. Please tell me you also like Tallis!
Can't speak for the op, but I liked Tallis a lot.
And I love DA2. It has it's faults, sure. But then, show me a game that doesn't.
Looking forward to DA3.

DA:O is a slog, the dark roads goes on way too long, and it is a grind at times.... but it's soooooo atmospheric, I love the different starts and the whole atmosphere up to the the first walk to Lothering... just utterly brilliant.
Just hope Bioware can take their time with DA3 and lessons have been learned from ME3...

I have a LIST of improvements, though. I was dissapointed in many aspects of the game, from a "compared to others of it's genre" standpoint. But all-in-all, I enjoyed the game, and do replay it from time to time.

They had some good intentions. A different kind of plot that didn't come down to 'You alone can save the world from an ancient evil' and I liked the Qunari acts as well as the fact they started up several plotlines as early as act 1 and they kept active until act 3 until they were resolved.
They just did an incredibly sloppy job on the polish and made totally no effort to add some more inspiring scenery. The combat was basically hack and slash and tactics were blown out the window because mobs appeared out of thin air.
On top of that, they flushed the lore they established in DAO through the toilet. For example demons possessing non mages (I mean wth?) or demons working actively with blood mages (instead of immediately turning on them as established in DAO)
So yeah, DA2 is a decent game as far as I'm concerned but it's nowhere near the quality of DAO. And I'm not trying to be pessimistic but I don't believe DA3 will get anywhere near DAO either. Hopefully it will beat DA2 by quite a lot though. Time will tell.

I do expect some people to either be flabbergasted by my opinion, or outright tell me i'm wrong. But, I hope a FEW people can appreciate the good points of DA2 and stop trying to make it like Witcher/Skyrim/DA:O/whatever. I want DA3 to be DA3, and move the franchise forward. Bioware doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, just give me good characters, good plot, and good gameplay, and i'm happy.
One of the few that really enjoyed DA2. IMO DA2 was just as good as Origins in it's own way but I do enjoy 2 a tad more.

So refreshing to see some positive views about the game.
Yes, I'm dissatisfied with some major things and few minor things. All in all, it left a good impression. To me, both DA:O and DA2 stand equal.
To me DA2 strong points are but not limited to:
- Dialogue & personality system.
- Story
- Voice acting, especially the lead roles (Fem. Hawke FTW!)
Visually, while not greatest and left the 'unfinished' -feeling, it was okay. I really liked some design choices like Kirkwall architechture, could've been more detailed/polished but I still liked it. Chains, stone, old, heavy, edgy, pointy (hard to describe it)! Yes!
