While it was by no means a perfect game, I did really enjoy it.

I liked their approach regarding characters, a lesser usage of underground and the goal of game in DA2.
1) I had to find a way to like some of them but their independent and not so naive personalities and a significantly less portion of whinning and naivety won my favour in the end.
2) Less amount of underground, abandoned dungeons = always good. A bigger variation of locations wouldn't have certainly hurt but it was a move into the right direction.
3) The fact that I didn't roleplay a typical hero fighting against Big Bad for sake of being bad was a huge plus.

If they keep these points and add a complexity of maps from DAO, I'll be glad.

Glad to see all the love, and no flaming in this post! I did make a point above that I didn't want DA3 to take after Skyrim or Witcher, but I wanted to state for the record that I love both of those games to death as well, so no insult was meant there. I'd just prefer they stay the games that they are, and DA stays the game that it is. In fact, the only direct competition I can see for DA3 is Project Eternity.

The Fade is (thanks to a mod) completely skippable. The Deep Roads are lore-appropriate; if you just go through them without taking any optional paths, you'll leave them much faster behind.

The question here is: what audience does BW want? DAO audience =/= DA2 audience.

I disliked DA2, but may get DA3 if it suits my tastes......about 6 months or a year afterwards when it goes down in price probably. That's just pretty much how I buy all games anyway these days.

Oh, and to the poster way above me whom I never addressed, I did enjoy Tallis. My least favorite character is probably Alistair, as he's pretty much Carth 3.0.

I also enjoy DA2. Compared to Origins, Origins is more oldschool in the RPG department, but DA2 is paced better, I think. My 2 biggest complaints are the recycled dungeons and the odd lack of Morrigan (Although Isabela makes up for the latter). The troll dialogue picks for Hawke are hilarious.

Origins is better in some departments, DA2 is better in others. Overall though, I prefer DA2. But my God, the Fade segment in DAO was one of the worst things I've experienced in my entire life.

Funny you mention the Fade, because i'm going through it now on another run-though of DA:O, and I hate that part.  If my companions were with me during that slog and had good commentary there it'd be ok, but as it is it's boring and makes me hard to push through.  Worst part of DA:O for sure.

i concurr.  also, that stupid puzzle bridge in the sacred ashes quest.  very annoying.

i remember when night terrors dropped as a possible quest in DA2, i almost didn't do it because the fade quests in the previous games were so TEDIOUS!  i was glad to see bioware listened to all our complaints about it, and actually improved the experience in the next game.

there's a reason that "skip the fade" is still the most popular mod for DAO.

I agree with the OP, I really enjoyed both games, and both had some flaws for me.

For me, the highlights of Dragon Age 2 was the grey story and the compelling characters. What it lacked was varied and deep settings to explore, a more tactical combat system, though the positives were enough for me that I really enjoyed it despite this.

Definitely looking forward to Inquisition and the expected improvements. I think it could bring together some of the best aspects from Origins and DA2 with any luck.

That is weird, I just loved the Fade part on DAO. I wish we could shapeshift like that on the regular game. The Fade in DAA was also pretty fun

The Fade in DAO may have been a bit long but I enjoyed it. I'm fine shortening it a bit but the trip to the Fade in DA2 was crap. You're there for what? Four minutes?

Ya, wasn't really big enough to register. I loved Awakenings Blackmarsh though.  Not too long, intersting areas, great loot ^^

its your opinion and you have the right to have it. i did not enjoy da2 and while i am looking forward to da3 i fully expect it to be terrible. but i hope bioware surprises me and releases a good game, something the no longer seem to be capable of.

DA2 was decent i liked the combat ( not the exploding enemies ) but DA:O is way better hands down you actually made your hero therefore you had a vested interest in him/her not some cut and paste hero with a generic survived the blight by running away hero, anyway i look forward to DA3 because maybe it will be a triumphant return to crafting your own hero.
