Maybe a better example is Mass Effect 3's Steve.
Steve was a character I liked a lot. If he was a heterosexual or bi character, I would have romanced him.
He wasn't. I wasn't upset or disappointed.
I felt it added more to him as a character to be exclusive to the male player instead of Shepard-sexual.

Lets try to get back to my original question using this example, was Steve the LI you absolutely wanted to romance more than any other LI on your "main" Shepard...or the Shepard that you consider to be your favorite and the one you identify most with?

Yes, my canon Shepard romanced Kaidan in ME1 and I would have gladly dropped him for Steve.
Steve is awesome:wizard:

But this thread has gone a bit off-topic..

Yeah. Cullen was so gay in DA2. They way he prosecuted the Mages with such gentleness and yet persistence - only a homosexual man is capable of that.

And I assume you'd be totally fine if Cullen was made into an m/m only romance like Steve?

That only justifies why you want Cullen as an M/M option, not the benefits his romance could bring to the game.

That said,

I wouldn't mind Cullen as a bisexual LI. But then, if we don't have the same system as Mass Effect 3, I would like for all the romances to be bisexual, including Cullen.

Why, does it come with dinner and a movie?  If I'm going to be spending all of my coin in one place, I've got to be getting the most bang for my buck!

Steve wasn't introduced in a previous game. He was, in effect, a blank canvas.
Cullen has, as stated, expressed an interest in women. And I know that means nothing, but I sincerely doubt he would be made an m/m only option.

I just don't see Cullen as a bisexual character (and yes, I understand that is a silly thing to say as you can't just know someone's sexuality - he just doesn't strike me as such).
This thread is asking people's opinion and I only gave mine.

I don't get what you are trying to say here.

I personally can't stand Cullen and am apathetic to him being a romance option or companion.

But if he's added as one, I don't see why he should be limited to female PCs only unless there's some super duper important narrative reason for it (which I highly doubt).

They could do it if they wanted to.

They could say he was trying to fit in "with the other guys" by flirting with women, blah blah blah.

Duh. Sorry, I suddenly became even more derpy and read your posts all wrong.

Personally, I find that it depends of the system. If we have to choose between DA:O's system and DA II's system I'll always side with the latter, but if they go the ME3 route I can see why they would make Cullen heterosexual, while opening a space for new characters to fill the bi/homosexual spot.

The problem with this is what if I don't like the other guy and I like Cullen? I'm simply out of luck, this is why I liked DA2 system.

I don't think anyone is actually asking that he be made an m/m only option though... simply that he be made m/m at all.

tbh, I'd rather see newer character/characters with less development than Cullen fill up a party slot in DA3, but I'm not going to run off and antagonize his fan base because they're passionately advocating for his return as a LI either.  It's not like I dislike the guy, I am just way more curious about that pipe-smokin' Rivaini lady from the possible-or-not fan survey.

(this part isn't directed at you, Jessica!  I just realized I never actually voiced my opinion on Cullen in his own advocacy thread... :P)

Yes, this is also my reasoning. With ME3 system that means we have two other options - the homosexual LI (Steve) and the bisexual LI (Kaidan), which is better than DA:O's system, in my opinion. Still, the ability to be able to experience the romance you want with the character you feel fit it the best and in the gender you choose is a perk from the all-bisexual system that I wouldn't like to let go.

Ah I see, thanks for the clarification!

I do prefer DA2's system as well.

I would love to see Cullen available as an M/M romance if he is indeed a companion and a possible LI. Bioware really do great M/M romances with lots of variety. I've played mShep/Kaidan, mHawke/Fenris, mHawke/Anders and male Warden/Zevran and all these romances all felt natural and well-written imo.

I don't know if Cullen would be the first romance I gave a try in DA3, but it also depends on which one of the writer who is manly in charge of him. I wonder if they'll tell us before the game is released... :)

Of course Cullen should be available for m/m. Same possibilities for everyone. And, as has already been said, it's probably a lot cheaper to make everyone bisexual.

I just...couldn't bear another system like in ME 3 (or the ME games in general). My FemShep (the one I love and identify with the most) was gay. I found Liara boring, so I didn't romance her. Sam was cute enough, but she was so unimportant to the game and she came too late. My Shep had already given her heart to another. Unfortunately, Tali decided to hook up with Shep's best bro.
Let's just say that punched me right in the feels. And not in the good way either. My Shep died forever alone.
I think that had me down for about a week.

I just can't bear it. Not again. :'(

And if people are so adamant about Cullen being 'straight'...well, maybe he does lean more towards women. Doesn't mean he won't be swayed if the Inquisitor works for it. ;)

I think it would be fantastic if Cullen was a companion right from the start, but pulls a Mhairi on you. Man, I would laugh for weeks. I'd have to be hospitalized.

Blackrising I always love your posts! you say exactly what I want to say and that's my point right there.
In ME3 exactly the oppisite happened to me I always play male characters and I loved both options of Steve & Kaidan.
And I know that can happen to me too in some of the games and then I'd be the one that gets burned.

To the people that say DA2's system sucks and it's not what we like and unrealistic:
This is what that can happen to you, you simply migh not like any straight/gay/lesbian options that are available to your character simply because of a gender check, what would you do then?
For those that can't bear playing a specific gender ( like me ) this is harder because our characters are forever alone, why do you hate having more options? you can have anyone you like and you can ignore anyone that you don't want no big deal, so let the people that want the option have it,  it'd be a win/win situation for everyone.
