I was watching a random DA:O video that popped up in my recommended list on youtube, and something struck me:
The "more unique" artstyle of Dragon Age II actually makes it look like just another fantasy game. Dragon Age: Origins looks authentic and believable. I think it's mostly the mostly the more kitschy armours of DAII that ruin the feel.
Is this just me?

Eh, I am kind of partial to the overall art style of the second game myself. What you felt was authentic about DA:O I thought was just drab and unimaginative for the most part.

I liked how the characters, species, and cultures each had their own distinct style, but I missed the gritty and unclean look of Origins. If they could blend the authenticity of DA2 with the hardened, gritty style of Origins, I'll be happy.

Yeah Origins looks more unique to me but that's probably more character design and details than art style.

You have a point. That is indeed the most positive aspect of Dragon Age II's art style. I was thinking more of the armours and environments than race designs when I made this thread.

I liked how the Origins characters looked and the western medeival realism style. DA2 went more toward the anime style. Well, at least DA will finally get a graphic engine that it deserves. That's probably the best thing I could hope for considering how DA has been labled a bland, ugly game for too long.
