DA:O was great in this regard. Of the three major "army gathering" subplots, one was focused exclusively on dwarves, and the other was on elves. (There were elves in the circle tower, too, but they were minor elements, not the focus). You got to see and learn a lot about both cultures, and really got involved in both.

As for companions, you had Oghren and Zevran in the base game, and Sigrun and Velana in the expansion. Still keeping a good even ratio of elves to dwarves. (Slightly dwarf-heavy, I suppose, as Oghren carried over. But not majorly so. And elves at least had a romance-able option in the form of Zevran, where dwarves got none. Balances out). Even Leliana's Song had only two companions, an elf and a dwarf. (Golems of Amgarrak only had dwarves, but Golems wasn't even really an adventure, just a big weird puzzle, so I rarely give it much weight).

*****

Then we had DA2. In Act I, you get involved in some dwarves, although you actually don't get to see many, or interact much at all. There's just a few standing or walking in the background (Same in the Deep Roads). There's one dwarven companion, but he has very clearly thrown off the mantle of traditional dwarven lifestyle, and is atypical of dwarves (he doesn't even have a beard!), and was not a romance option. After Act I, the only dwarves you see are milling in the background, except for Bodhan and Sandal.

But elves... two elf companions, both romance-able, one of whom is very much tied in to the elven way of life, culture, and history. During every act, you visit and interact with a major elven settlement, learn about the culture, do quests for their leader, craftsman, and other random members. You experience their magic, their mindset, their intolerance, fear, and general situation. In short, you really see and interact with elves A LOT in DA2.

*****

Don't do that again. Don't leave the dwarves out.

I have always been a life-long fan of dwarves, and have never cared for elves. I'm not asking for dwarves to take center-stage constantly. I totally understand that there are also plenty of elf fans out there. I'm just asking for equal treatment. Give the dwarves some love, please. Or let us give them some love.
;)

*****

Edit: Forgot about Tallis! An entire expac just for one elf (who is a qunari, though, so it's a little weird.) Still, I won't hold that against you. We'll pretend this balances out with Golems of Amgarrak.

I agree with a better elf to dwarf ratio as well. I'm thinking 3 elves per dwarf should be sufficient:)

I agree that more dwarves are needed in 3, however I don't blame DA2 for having few Dwarves, if anything its consistent with the story. As you know, Dwarves on the surface are considered to be without honor, so finding few Dwarves in Kirkwall and the free march region seems logical.

Varric has got to be worth at least 10 regular dwarfs though.

Yes and no. While Varric was of course a supremely awesome character, probably my favorite in the whole series (and I'll never hear a bad word about him), he's not really ... dwarf-ish. I would like more traditional dwarves, or at least the opportunity to become more involved in dwarven culture and history.

I think the hardest thing is the fact that all the "traditional dwarves" are still down in Orzammar, we got the opportunity to see them in Origins because we went to them. In Dragon Age 2 the opportunity wasn't really there, due to the fact that we were so far from the central hub of Dwarven society, all we had available were outcasts.

I would have no problem with us encountering a "traditional" dwarf that had somehow become outcast from Orzammar, yet maintained the mentality of Orzammar society, but outside of that possibility... I don't see how it will be possible for us to learn more about them without returning to their central city.

Still, would be nice to see them again - Assuming there's a way to do it.

I'll grant you that the setting of DA2 made it difficult. But remember, there are actually TWO major dwarven cities: Orzammar and Kal-Sharok. According the DA wiki, "Kal-Sharok lies in the Hunterhorn Mountains between Orlais and the Anderfels."

So, it's near Orlais? PERFECT. No excuses this time!

DAO was great in this regard because you actualy went to Orzammar. Since you didn't go to any dwarven cities in DA2 and dwarves are still rare on the surface it only makes sense that you haven't seen much dwarves.

That said, i'm all up for more dwarves and dwarven cities.

DA2 was a great opportunity to deeply explore the politics and details of surface dwarves, merchant princes, etc. The pre-release information about Varric and surface dwarves was interesting and I think they should have gotten as much attention as the elves. You hear Varric make reference to meetings and all kinds of guild stuff, but it would have been nice to visit them and interact with them much in the same way we visited and interacted with the Dalish camp at Sundermount.

That's a good point. Oh well, yet another missed opportunity for DA2.

Less broody, entitled, whining elves is all that I want. Put simply, more Zevran, less Fenris.

Hey, that's cool. I got no elf-hate here. Just dwarf-love. I think they could satisfy both elf-lovers and dwarf-lovers (and in fact, did so in DA:O).

The more dwarfs the better.
