Yeah if you can explain away a mage's stave, then you can explain away a wand. I mean really. Let's not get silly.

And for those against it, it's not like wands would take away your stave. Come on now. Knives don't take away Swords. Also for those making the point that HEY MAGE WITH WAND, SPINS AROUND AND SLAMS IT ON THE GROUND... come on now. Knives don't have the same animation as Swords. Bows don't have a staves animation. Wands would have a separate animation.

Other than IRL reasons like TIME, BUDGET, ASSETS etc... I see zero reason why wands can't be in the game.

Peace, bro. The majorette wand-wielder thing was a joke. Most of my post was, actually, apart from the sentence where I said that I liked the idea of wands as a high-speed, low-damage weapon.

Edited to rephrase something that sounded a lot ruder than I intended.

If wands are added, I demand a stab through the eye finishing move.

And a "use as a back-scratcher" idle animation.  :P

I would like to see mages able to use a sling, dagger, darts along with a staff. I would like to be able to use the dagger as the focus point of a spell or have the wand made with a pointed stabbing end.

Well, this is just another excellent reason for me to support Wands.

As long as they're shaped like guns and require disposable lyrium shards to operate then I am ok with this.

I would appreciate a wand if the PC was an apostate.
But staves have their practical uses too.
Running low on mana? Whack someone in the face.

That's an extremely convincing argument!. Put me down as 'pro wand'. :wizard:

But if you get caught with one, you're going to have some explaining to do. A staff is just a big stick, but those templars will never believe that the wand-wielder is a traveling orchestra conductor.

"That's not a wand in my pocket, I'm just pleased to see you" said the mage to the templar

I heard Dumbledore say that if you focus on an intense feeling of joy a jet of liquid white substance will shoot out from the tip of your wand and it's called a Patronus.

I will never think of Harry Potter the same way again. :pinched:

Some sort of auto attack being wand based while wait on cool downs or mana regen would be great.

No probs, berelinde. I also did not intend to sound aggressive. I was going more for a ESPN style "Come on, man!" silliness.

As for melee secondary with a wand. The DA universe already is filled with well let's call it Magic Fu. We all look like TMNT's Donatello when our Mages melee as it is. Rogues look more like Ninja. So why can't the Wand be coupled with a hand to hand style? Maybe slight of hand inspired, distracting quick chops, an elbow, then a kick and a knee.

Not saying Wands should be Rogue Ninja style with flips and spins, maybe we could think about how magic is more intellectual... so maybe Wand melee would be extremely precise, deliberate. Like a Star Trek Vulcan style. A fighting style that almost looks like it Hates Fighting.

Yeah. Something like that would seem to work great with the concept of Wands. Staves then are for more battle ready, sweeping and grandiose magic users... Wands, more intellectual, relying on precision, sacrificing brute power.

PLUS that back scratching idle animation sounds way humorous. Would have loved to see Bethany fidget like that.

As long as it's better than the DA:O magic pool cue! The mage would stand there with the staff held perfectly horizontal and little magical puffs would fly out. It's something to do when you're low on mana, but it wasn't even remotely threatening.

Oh yeah, definitely. The DA:O mage looked really silly.

Most of the staffs have blades on one end, don't they?

Wands could be the mage version of the murderknife.

@CupCakes... no off-topic images, please.

A comment on the topic: Maybe they can take a cue from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files - the "blasting rod".
