Idk ask Voldemort what he thinks of wands.

I'm astounded that it took so long for a Harry Potter reference to be made.

But to address the OP, I'm not really a big wand person. In my brain they belong to the realm of Harry and his band of merry elves. So I almost guarantee I'd never use them on any character.

That doesn't mean I'm against them, however. So more power to you, OP. You use those wands (should they exist)!

I just want to be able to shoot magic with my palms. But a little more creatively than using DAO's lob-a-medicine-ball-made-of-magic animation for everything.

You know what was really cool? The crushing prison animation in DA2 where Anders holds the staff in one hand and uses the other hand to cast the spell. Now just imagine that with more of the hand casting the spell and less of the other hand holding the staff. Preferably there would be a sort of focus crystal "weapon" that could occupy the weapon slot but need not be "held" in the hands, per se.

I like staffs; my mage would actually hit people with it when they got to close to her.

baIf I'm not mistaken wands are supposed to be considered outdated in Thedas. I remember there being a reference to that that in the Witch Hunt DLC. I do agree it would make for an interesting option for certain very specific situations, an Anora's rescue style infiltration for example.

However for your typical DA engagement I'm not sure if it makes enough sense to make it an actual in game weapon. Most combat up until now has been made up of a lot of relatively small to mid-size skirmishes involving a lot of melee intensive combat. In that kind of situation the staff makes the most sense at least then if someone runs up on us with a mundane weapon we can always bust them upside the head with it.  Going at someone with  a sword and shield holding a twig isn't exactly combat practical.

If they were to do  like that it would probably involve completely revamping the magic mechanic for dragon age as well as combat style. Less open area mob skirmishes and more dinner with the Archon gone awry situations.

I'm rather fond of staves really, especially with the new Mage combat animations in DAII.

Wands are nice too, gives more option in selecting arsenals.

No. Wands are the sissy kid brother of staffs.

Filament, that's a neat idea.

For others, I'm not saying Wands over Staves. I'm saying give us that option. More options with our mages would be rad. Our Rogues and Warriors have varying options: Dual Wield/Archery, Sword Shield/Two Handed. Those are in addition to other specialities they can choose, that don't effect what weapons they have. So why is a Mage stuck with a Stave?

Not to mention that while there are different staves, the varying looks you can get with mix/matching weapons with a Rogue/Warrior shames the Mage.

Options! It's what's for dinner. :)

Wand for one hand. Somekind of sphere/ball for the other.

Cool.

+1

Although I don't like using wands (because it is in my opinion that all mages should model themselves after the greatest magic user of all time, Gandalf), but it does make sense...

Given that mages are kinda like outlaws, a wand would be soooo much easier to conceal and carry around. Kinda like daggers.

Why? Because you'd immediately link anything with wands to Harry Potter? That's your problem really.

I don't get those people that just say "NO!" Instead of, "Hey, not my thing but options are good for those that want it."

Sejborg, your idea would work well to bring Filament's idea to the table too. It's a good combination of the wand/free hand concept.

I defer to Sten in regards to all mage related issues. Those not agreeing will have an unfortunate convergence of Sten, Asala, and my sig.:wizard:

If I get a wand, I want to be able to use it in a heated argument so I can poke my opponent in the chest with it to drive home my point. Also, I want two, so they can double as chopsticks. I demand practicality in my mage weapons of choice.
