A BioWare game without romance options is like a Call of Duty came without shooting. It cannot exist.

I don't recall any romance options in BG I ...

OMG that one game from 14 years ago...

One of the selling points for me on BIoWare is the interactions between the characters. No romances would not stop me from wanting the game but I would not want a layer of that interaction cut out for no good reason.

That's not to say I am totally happy with how the romances tend to play but that's for a different thread.

No romances?!

Pffft.

"All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need"

Yeah, but ever story about a John Lennon girlfriend ended with "she was crying in a corridor with a black eye".  So not the best band to be quoting.

*Overly dramatic eyeroll*

K, brah.

Sorry princess, just saying using a song by John Lennon to advertise romance is like using a song by Gary Glitter to promote child saftey.

I'd like to see them go in a more realistic direction inre Romance options. Like, you get to camp and your LI is giving you the cold shoulder. When you ask what's wrong, she only answers, "YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID!!!!" then storms off, leaving you standing in an awkward silence as the rest of your companions look away in embarrassment. Then, one of the other female companions can start hitting on you to 'comfort' you at which point the original one jumps in screaming, "You hussy! Get your claws out of my man!" Drama ensues which finally results in the camp's cute nug being skinned and cooked by the now psychotic ex.

Whenever I play a Bioware game, I usually have a few playthroughs with romances and a few playthroughs without. It's not a huge deal for me, but it is nice to have, mostly because I want to see a different story and different subplot from playthrough to playthrough.

So basically, I think romances help a game's replayability.

All depends, really. If it was going to be closer to BG2's romances, I'd miss them. If it's DA2's, take them away.

A Bioware game without tacky romance plots would certainly go a long way towards making video game writers look like actual writers as opposed to fanfic enthusiasts.

The reality of it is that Gaider and the team are primarily interested in writing homosexual smut and marketing it to underage kids.

Oh my gosh. Sarah Palin, is that you?

Because you don't play BG1 with mods. These days, BG1 NPC Project alone adds six: Ajantis, Branwen, Coran, Dynaheir, Shar-Teel and Xan.

I played DA:O as a game without romances for my female PC(Zevran is a **** who still sleeps with Isabela in DA2, bug or no; Alistair betrays you, Sir Gilmore gives you -200 approval if Alistair betrays you and you allow Anora to execute him and I'm not sure which is worse). I missed the romance, yeah, but I enjoyed the playthrough anyway. Same for DA3, I guess.

You found out about our gay agenda. How will we turn kids into homosexuals now?

Yes, but it must have sex - like just one time events, or to advance plot mechanic.(something like Seduce from Bloodlines).

My favourite technique is sneaking into college parties to sink my fangs into passed out frat boys, vampire style.

They would still find a way for your character to have sex with someone through a brothel or something, but I would prefere to have romance.

Yeah, sure. I mean, I played the metric hell out of Awakenings, even though my favorite Warden was A) dead and B) single, anyway. Though had I been given the option, my Orlesian might have jumped Nate or Sigurn.... But not having the option didn't exactly break my heart. That's what IMAGINATION is for, if I decide my protagonist is lonesome.

That being said, I would be REALLY surprised. And I'd probably miss it. It's not near as fun playing a stoic sort married to her work if she never gets tempted, and that's my default character that tends to pop up in my first round through any RPG.

I might end up buying it from bargain bin and playing it once. Don't think i'd buy it new, buy dlc, replay etc if they were cut out.

I would like it because I have always moaned and complained about the romances, and they are not my bag.

I would entirely sympathise with others though, as they see it as a core part of the games, and choice in RPGs is a good thing, and we are a community together - if we all remembered that sort of thing we would probably be giving better, clearer feedback imo - but then everyone has their opinion on what makes good feedback for an RPG.

I would be entirely happy myself but really sad for my friends of BSN who love that kind of thing. I mean *love* it.

I wouldn't worry too much. Compulsory enjoyment of tacky romance might reign on these forums - but it is not reflected in reality, where people still have to pay for BioWare games.

For that reason, you can at least expect it to stay outta your face eventually, because other people might stop buying it, or you can stop buying it.

As for the gay thing, well there's a can of worms - I wouldn't waste your time with anything less than lavish praise here - remember these are the BioWare forums where politely refusing the romantic advances of a gay character in game is practically a hate crime.

There's no need - nobody can bully or browbeat you into buying a product through a forum, rite? You still (just about) have the luxury of capitalism and choice.
:)

This is like that thing Gotholhorakh  was talking about. Either you praise the romances or it's not worth discussing? As if anything but praise risks shattering your perception of Bioware? Are you afraid?

Well, the whole bit about homosexual smut sort of undermined any point he may have had.

Irrational bigotry tends to do that.

Hahahahahahahaha.

It's funny because it's a blatant falsehood.
