Seriusly people. DA2 has a beheading, a "frankenwoman" built of women's parts by a serial killer, a church bombing...

Yet all we see here is "brodudes" whinning that there are romance cooties on their game. Get a grip!

When are we getting the "If DAI had no violence would you still play it" thread ?

Hello ? Is this thing on ? Why the sudden silence.

:P

I whole heartedly agree as some critics of TW use the very same tactics. You'd swear that the sex/nude scenes were all there was to the game.

Some people just don't want the game being influenced by some of the awful romance threads we see here in the BSN. One from yesterday had Mr. Gaider locking it himself and him commenting that the thread had made him loose  faith in humanity. So removing all gameplay from the game to go full on dating sim? Sure, good idea.

That was because of rampant transphobia, mind.

I would probably still play. However, I find the romances are one of the more enjoyable aspects of the roleplaying for me.

However, if another game company was putting out a well written game with romances I would choose that game over the romance-less game easily.

Agree! I'm playing Skyrim right now, and I just keep thinking, wow, wouldn't this be a great game if my LI ... actually had a personality and stuff. Then I sigh and think fondly of BW.

:D DA spoiled meh.

I'd be sad if they were gone but, of course I'd still play. Both DA games, for me, can stand on their own without LIs.

Having a LI in game has always been a lovely little sprinkling of seasoning for me. I think it is good for the characters to have personal motivations, as well as the grander motivation of saving the world. In addition, being able to interact and influence other characters  adds a degree of realism.

If that was a parody game. I'd totally play it.

Naw i was just messing with Renmiri1 due to some posts in another thread.

So far i like that the romances of DA have been kept minimal, and hope that for DA:I that the time that is invested in them doesn't detract from the cutscenes or dialogue involving the main questline's support characters, and antagonist.

Plus post a link for the bolded because iirc not even the "Quarian Booty Sweat"  or "Darkspawn romance threads" received similar, but deserved comment from a dev.

I think that rather than a toggle of all romance or sexuality, the simple idea of having to seek out a romance, and of having proper options for dialogue, while leaving the characters as they are (eg: Isabela is rude but doesn't try it on with you unless you give her some signal you're interested) would not present massive problems.

It still would, a little, because she doesn't strike me as someone who would patiently wait for anyone to make the first move, but it's a reasonable compromise.

((Plus it would give me some ammunition against y'all vile romance haters, so I could yell at you "what are you talking about? All you have to do is not flirt with him / her" and be absolutely right about it :P))

Ha - you wouldn't hear me complaining to be honest, although I wouldn't say I was a romance hater as much as a romance meh'er except for once in a while.

Skyrim

Ha - Skyrim "romances" are probably about my speed to be honest, that's probably about as much romance as I need. :D

I wouldn't mind to much to be honest. But, the romance in Bioware games is something I enjoy because I feel you cant find romances like them in any other game, so i'd be disappointed if it didn't have any.

I don't see the problem with just rejecting a potential romance's advances. (though giving you a more diplomatic line than "I don't want you thinking of me that way! D:< " would be preferred) I mean I don't want to keep slaves or sacrifice elves (including my own father :o) to increase my stats or let a desire demon take over a little boy, etc...but I'm not offended that the game offers me those potential choices and I wouldn't look for a toggle that erases any evil choice from the game.

Sure I would. The romances are a nice touch to bring you closer to the characters, but I come for the story, and of course, the slice 'n dice, shoot 'n loot, or cast 'n blast. :P

I think this is a really good point. We have in-game, in-character ways to respond to these decisions. As a person who has never taken one of those options (siding with slavers, deal with demon, etc) and probably wouldn't be interested in doing so ever, I still don't really care that they're included and wouldn't toggle them off. If I was FORCED into a deal with a demon (in an out of character situation), I would definitely be upset. But, then again, I'd also be upset if I was forced into a particular romance.

I'd play it once of course but I probably wouldn't buy it or replay it. I think romances change up the story kinda depending on the importance (Ex. Alistair and Morrigan), and it also adds replay value and makes the game more interesting, especially if you really start to care for a certain character, but that's my opinion..

If DA3 had no romance . . .

I'd still buy it and probably enjoy it, but there'd be a lot less replay value in it.

The vocal minority here on the BSN would be raging and showing how obsessed they truly are. The vast majority of users would play the game regardless and won´t care about romances.

Pretty sure this has already been brought up at least once but DAO:Awakening had zero romance. I mean sure you got to a few references and maybe a cameo from one or two characters bring said romance up but there was zero new romances and no romance scenes. Its been done before people. Nothing new.

Well that's technically different. I mean the character you're using possibly already has a LI. I think players would be less enthused if a brand new character had less options that the previous one even if they weren't promised LIs.....

I think most of the fanbase is a part of the I don't really care as long as the game is good, but honestly they'd likely say that about EVERYTHING. It's not fair to take it away from people who want it, but on the flip side it's not fair to force more of it at the expense of something others might like.

Tis an odd rope to walk.

Well Bioware certainly have done some not too horrible romance in the past, most recently DA:O. Although even that had some pretty silly lines. While I'm definitely not going to purchase the game due to requiring Origin to just to play the game, however, if that weren't the case I'd probably still play it with or without romance simply because how much I enjoy the setting of Thedas after DA:O. Regardless, I doubt they would make a Dragon Age game without romance anyway since it's pretty much established as one of the primary feature for the series.

If DA3 had no romance, I don't think there'd be as much replayability (?) in the game for me. I wouldn't be able to choose another variable for a PC like I'm able to in the other two games.

However, FINALLY my PC can be asexual without any awkward flirting moments from potential LIs! =D

I'd play it... I don't know if I'd replay it, probably not. The romances are actually a huge part of the games they make, much more important than they like to acknowledge. Romance is a big deal in practically any epic (not all, but on the whole, at least where both genders are present), certainly if you care about character. You can tell a great story without any kind of romance, yes, but the further you go with it, the more your story suffers for the lack of it, kind of like life. An absense of anything is just a void. You don't gain by ignoring it in the long run.

I don't know if I would care, romance in a story is good, but I think I can do without the awkward flirting and sex scene of the past few BioWare games.

Of course I would.

They serve as useful tools for character development however, so it'd be a shame to see them disappear. There exclusion would certainly not stop me buying the game though.
