No romance would actually make it more likely for me to buy and enjoy the game.

I used to like romances in my games, but then DA2 came along. Removing romances would most likely also remove a few of its unwanted side effects, and the overall game might be better for it.

That's how I feel. Well-done romances are one thing, but with Bioware's push to save zots by making romances generic, which spills over into characterization, I'd rather just see them get cut completely. At this point, they might as well go full-Skyrim and throw in the absurd marriage necklace.

Oh, gods, no. No, no, no. I don't know if this is a sentiment shared elsewhere, but if I want to play a massive sandbox RPG, with a limp main plot and flat secondary characters generally around only to get in the way during fights and are so shallow as to be pointless...

I will go play Skyrim or any number of similarly styled RPG's. I'm looking to buy a game focused on a small core of characters who are integral to the story, who are integral to the PC, and who 'come alive' in the game as fully three dimensional and necessary companions. If that's not what BW is selling, that's cool and no hard feelings. Just not what I'm looking to pay for, is all.

Yes, but not as many times as I played the previous two.

Probably? But I would be disappointed.

Bioware is pretty much the only game company in the entire world that features alternate sexualities in any sort of slightly meaningful way.

If DA3 had no romances, I'd take such wicked delight in the sheer volume of butthurt that would ensue.

I said slightly.

You don't have to find it meaningful. As a minority that finds virtually no representation in any media anywhere, it's meaningful to me.

Agreed,  if that were to happen the lulz would be biblical, and your avatar has the perfect expression too.

Out of curiosity, how would you feel about a well written, prominent NPC/companion who's LGBT but not romanceable?

I'd be very happy to see that, provided their sexuality actually came up in the game, rather than having the writers say after the fact that "X was gay all along! We were secretly being progressive the whole time!"

Sexuality is pretty strongly linked to romance, so I'd be curious to see how they handled it without romance.

It wouldn't be the same as being able to express my own sexuality in-game, which is a feature I also value, but I wouldn't consider it a 'backslide'.

Lets be perfectly clear here. No one has played a game made by bioware that actually had romances.
As much as people fawn over it likes the end all be all of bioware games. The simple truth is their badly written shlock to appease sexually frustrated people. The only time I'll accept that its actually "romances" is when their no longer scared of Fox News. Until then enjoy your "we'll bang Ok?" dialog followed by dry humping in clothes.

I'd wait until after it came out and read the reviews, rather than pre-ordering it

Yes.  Romance is the icing on the cake, not the whole cake.

It is a fun and sweet one though Image IPB

That's not "perfectly clear" at all. Are you saying that in order for it to count as a "romance", there has to be nudity and/or an explicit sex scene? How does adding explicit sex magically improve the quality of the writing? What about romances in books, plays and movies, where sex is often not shown, and sometimes doesn't even occur at all?

What about asexuals? Does this mean their relationships are fake?

Yes.

But I support anything that expands what a player can do in game.

It would be a lesser game without out.

I have never played a romance sub plot that has been good enough for it to be a game breaker, being that in bioware its an optional side activity that should not come as a surprise, the only way that would happen is if the romance is central to the game like Catherine.

So...yea, i would buy it - but i would still miss the feature...but if the games good enough or if it has a plot that doesnt support it i wouldnt care a bit.

Agreed -- I like how you describe it.

I really enjoyed Dragon Age Awakening and it didn't have any romances; I enjoyed ME1 & ME2 playing as a single Shep as well.

Bioware is one of the only game developers that makes a good companion relationship and romances. Not having romances is unBioware of them. For me it would make them less special or unique. Of course after the letdown of DA2, I may not purchase DA3 anyway.

Reading comprehenesion... and people wonder why I don't take the Bioware fanbase seriously.
Everyone is going so crazy about needing everyone to be romancable.  There hasn't been a romance in their games and I refuse to accept the "do my quest and say something nice to me and we'll bang"
Nudity does not = romance but pretending people have sex in their clothes = insulting intelligence.  As a fanbase that love to toute the horn on bisexuality and everything else I find it so amusing to see how little anyone actually understand how romance actually works.  I find CW's teen drama garbage more believable.

Alright then. Tell us how romance actually works, love guru. I fail to see the roblem with the current mechanics. Do the characters not talk to each other? Do they not learn about each other? Is that not how attraction and relationships develop generally?

Just because you don't see the clothes come off doesn't mean they never do. The penetration occurs offscreen, as it does in... well, pretty much everything that isn't porn.

I fail to see how it's an 'insult' to your intelligence to assume that you know how sex works, and would understand the implications.

They are really fun and I hope BioWare keeps what makes them good and this is one that is part of it..its all about telling a story and the LI is really cool. Sure I would still buy the game but this is extra and other games can't do it like these guys, it is just fun to do in a game or story.
