Just do it like ToR: multiple races that all just use the same voice. It's not a huge issue.syllogi wrote...
They're not saying anything yet, but just based on the fact that the hero is going to be fully voiced, it doesn't look good for bringing back playable races.

It's been said time and time again that the voiced protaganist is not why they ditched playable races.
Or, y'know, just never mention what their background and motivations are. Leave it up to the player to decide why they'd care.Vox Draco wrote...
But concerning the plot mage vs. templars and races for the protagonist...well, the easiest way for Bioware to make even dwarves somehow believable as "inquisitors"...would be to actively NOT give the character any know background this time. Make him/her a char that had its memories erased by the inquisition, so he/she will be the "perfect" tool...
Like others have said they could just use one voice for each gender for all races.syllogi wrote...

Well, the last time around, we were told that they wanted to tell the story of a human named Hawke, and that was all there was to it. This time, according to the marketing survey info, they are telling the story of an Inquisitor. I'm not quite sure an elf, dwarf, or qunari could be put in that role.
But, even if they were telling the story of a character who is less specific, do you really think that assigning value to resources like multiple voice actors for each gender, separate armor models for each race, and animating cinematics for each race wasn't at all something considered? They have to know that many fans want a choice of races again.
On the otherhand all that didn't stop Hawke from being a terrible protaganist.*said as someone with a Hawke avy*JerHopp wrote...
I hope so! Never cared for playing a dwarf or an elf.
I hope they focus on just a human protagonist, and let them spend their resources entirely on that character.
I don't know how much development time is needed (or how much time is given for DA3), but I am worried that if they focus on more backgrounds, the protagonists will have a more shallow development (instead of just focussing on one).
Less is more...

On the other hand, when they annoucned DA2, the first things they said was we would be playing Hawke, a human. With Inquisition they have been silent on this and one of the most wanted features to return is diffrent races.syllogi wrote...

...I think you're asking a little TOO much there.Thibax wrote...
I want to be able to create characters as:
Human, Elf, Dwarf, Qunari, Golem, Desire Demon, Darkspawn
and new one races:
Celestial (angel wings, please), Wild (plants, roots and flowers ornaments, please), Sea (yes! an ocean race) and Kitsune (fox ears and tails). Maybe an insect race with butterfly wings too hahahah

So the MC is just "there"? And consider s/he is a dwarf, nobody ever mentions that or ask how it came to be? I think that might lead to some "weird" situations and a lot of ignoring on the player's side.
Except it doesn't take place in the real world and really it makes sense that no one cares what race you are as the Wardens are known to recruiet anyone that they believe is useful to their cause the Inquisition may be the same.Vox Draco wrote...

Just imagine this game takes place in real world history, in Europe of the middle ages, and you can actually create an asian character...might be a little odd if everyone just shrugs and says "Yeah, sure, let's go inquisit someone..."
I am all for fantasy on teh player's side and the power of imagination, but I think that RPG-Amnesia might make this a little more "bearable" than just have every character ignoring the dwarven inqusitor...
Just my opinion though, I will hardly be confronted with that problem anyway, as I will stick to humans no matter what..
